I am horrified by this story.  What has happened to society that people could witness this and just go on as if nothing has happened? Those people that worked in this facility should be more that 'just fired'....they should be fined, punished or something.  They certainly don't deserve to have another job working with problem people at all...I wouldn't say compassion is their biggest trait.  But again, the other side of the coin is...if these type of jobs paid a decent wage and "absolutely required" a certification of some sort maybe they would get a better quality of people working there....instead of people that are incapable of doing anything else.   What ever happened to pride???

Just more proof that people are more concerned with how they can make their mark in the world or at their job than doing the job they are paid for; People are rarely treated with the same respect & concern that they show in their commercials & making profits has taken precedence over taking care of the customer that pays their bills. That place you mentioned is shameful proof of this.

If I hadn't seen piece about the forgotten patient I'd have thought you were writing about Michigans Dept. of Human Services.

you have Doctors and Nurses and Nurses Aids that will just ignore these people and they ask workers that are not aloud to do anything to help and all they can do is go tell the Aid or Nurse that dont want to do anything for these people and it is a sad place to be when you have nobody that wants to do the job that they are payed to do.

I saw this as well, and looked up the whole story on the internet. All i can say is SAD. All involved should be charged with murder, in what degree I don't know. I couldn't pass along a street in my car seeing an animal in trouble. Much less witnessing a human being stretched out on a floor without helping, or at least seeking for help. In the links below it shows the time frame in which this woman was first discovered, then sadly ignored.

Employees being Fired are not enough. They all should be charged with MURDER, including the DOCTOR who is anything but.

It`s disgusting, but a lot of what was reported is still common and it just shows how little has changed in mental health facilities over the years. Flashback 20+ years ago to an upscale suburban hospital just outside of Detroit. Patients are fighting for clean gowns and bedding that are given on a first come first serve basis. Hospital staff talks to them like they are dirt. Their insurance is just as good as the "sane" patients in the rest of the hospital, yet they are treated like they are sub human. Friend of mine eye witnessed this and while he was in there for an emotional issue and was quite sane, alert and aware he was treated as if his mind was not there. They didn`t distinguish between the psychotic patients and the aware patients. All were treated like crap.

I thought that was a DAMN shame. The woman actually fell out of the chair, and started having convulsions and NOBODY even thought to go get a doctor or stop a nurse or anything. People nowadays just don't want to get involved or even have passion for others any more. And it wasn't just white people looking at her there were black people in the same room with her as well. So no one can say it was a racist act. And on top of that I'm not surprised. In this time and age you can't trust people to even help you or expect it. And that is really a shame. I was totally embarassed for all us.

IT WAS A VERY SAD SIGHT TO SEE , HOW CAN ANYBODY JUST STAY THERE AND WATCH THIS , ESPECIALLY THE DOCTORS , NURSES AND SECURITY ,THE HOSPITAL WORKERS SHOULD BE BROUGHT UP ON CHARGES , I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT EVEN A INNOCENT BYSTANDER IS OBLIGATED TO AT LEAST BRING IT TO SOMEONE'S ATTENTION BUT NOT OBLIGATED TO INTERVENE

I'm so glad that other people feel as I do. When you see something like that, and there are people just standing around watching and doing absolutely nothing...like this a normal occurance...it makes me wonder about human nature. Thank all of you for your responses...you give me some faith in humanity. I just wish we were among the majority...the world would be a better place.
God bless all of you...

it is a shame to me to go to the one place you believe help should be and once you their you die while everyone who have taken a oath to aid and help the sich and suffering just pass you by. this is what the world have come to if it not my business or my love one who cares. i believe every nurse, doctor and aid worker at this place should be made to watch this video and to put themself in the victim place. this should have never happened. it sad to say a life could have been save if only the people their would have done their job. this is a crime and some punishment should be brought agaist the institution and the doctor or nurse who was responsiable for the area where the woman was waiting.mr heart goes out to the family of this poor woman when all she wanted was help is that too much to ask for

I HAVE A HARD ENOUGH TIME WATCH THAT A.S.P.C.A. COMMERCIAL WITH SARAH McLACHLAN ABOUT THE SUFFERING ANIMALS MUCH LESS WATCHING A SUFFERING HUMAN BEING , THOSE INVOLVED IN THIS MESS BETTER NOT GET OFF CRIMINALLY ,IM SO GLAD THAT MY FELLOW BLOGGERS ARE THE TYPE THAT WOULD HELP THOSE IN NEED , I DON'T CARE WHO THEY ARE I WOULD DO WHAT EVER NECESSARY TO HELP SOMEONE , IN MY JUNE 2ND 600PM POST ON THIS PAGE ARE PEOPLE OBLIGATED BY LAW TO ATLEAST GET MEDICAL PERSONAL INVOLVED TO HELP THE PERSON

A rude awakening for some, I see - at least it was caught on tape. I've been in two hospital facilities and their "rehabilitation" centers. Take my word on this...NEVER, EVER allow yourself or a loved one to be left alone in ANY hospital facility. Providence hospital SUCKS altogether, arrogant staff, 6 patient ratio to one nurse and that was in their neuro-ICU. I've found alcohol swab wrappings, syringe caps and other items left on the bed or on the floor of the sick person. Half the staff can't speak English, in ER at night they congregate and chit chat and look at you as if you're some sort of spy just because you decide to stay and watch over your loved one.

It's horrible...thank God for that video tape and for the fact that it didn't happen in Michigan. Engler fixed medical laws in Michigan so that even if the malpractice results in death, the jury award is capped.

I had surgery in Jan. of this year and I told all five of my sons and God son they had better be there, before, during and after surgery. The patient gets better care when they know you have family and friends there. That shouldn't be the case, but it is.

It is so sickening to see that their staff was willing to go so far as to doctor up medical reports with a bunch of lies. Which meant to everyone involved, this woman's life wasn't even worth the truth, and obviously not worth saving. If she had any insurance at all they were certainly going to bill for that lie.

Another place you don't want to leave your loved ones, is a nursing home or so-called rehabilitation center. Speaking from experience, you can send a letter requesting overnight stay. When granted, you'll see patients call lights come on and the nurses (a lot were of some African descent, some were not) would turn the call light off and never show up.

They wouldn't wash the patient up regularly, wouldn't bring them bed pans, I had to stop one patient from getting out of her bed being that she was bordering on demensia, had knee surgery and the bandages (you could tell) hadn't been changed...I've never seen so many people lack compassion in care. It's better to seek out in-home patient care with a skilled nurse.

i have went to a hospital here in michigan. I was having a problem from a procedure that that same hospital had done.I had such sever headaches that i could not stand ,i could hardley walk.I went so many times to the hospital complaining of the same problem.I asked for a room and they said they didnt have one.so i layed on the floor crying curled up in a ball.people just passed by, the lady at the desk said i had to get up .i couldnt do anything.i never thought i would ever do that ,to lay on the floor it was degrating.i can see how this lady was neglected, it is a sad day when doctors and nurses just look the other way.my heart goes out to the ladys family and freinds.
