That sweet adversity it brings out the best in me

Detroit public school students, don’t be discourage be encourage, because the future holds greatness. Never be ashamed of where you are, or where you come from; it’s a reason why God put you there. Always know where you are and where you are going, and have a plan on how to get there. I believe you can accomplish anything that you set out to achieve, which is greatness, if you only believe.

I know a lady that is ninety years old, she never graduated from high school but she just earned her bachelor degree, when asked what does she plan to do with it? She said, “I’m going to look at it”. She said I earned this for me, and I also earned it for my grandchildren because I figure if they see that a little old lady like myself who never graduated from high school could earn a degree that there is no limit to what they can do.

I know another person who graduated from high school with a horrible GPA. So, she went on to Junior College and she earned a 4.0 and her associate degree. For years she said that she thought she was dumb and she soon found out that she wasn’t dumb at all, she just had to apply herself and now she knows that there’s no limit to what she can do. Well, from there she went to a university and earned her bachelor’s degree in one year after junior college. In one semester she had 27 credit hours and she graduated with a 3.0.

From there she went to one of the top ten universities some years later she graduated with honors. The key to my friend’s success is that she never gave up and she never gave in, after she reached one goal then she would reach a little higher. All of the adversities that came her way, she said that they were “my sweet adversities they bring out the best in me.”

She held onto her faith and she stood strong, and every time something would go wrong; as things sometimes do, she said that she never felt like a failure because she knew that there was a lesson to be learned. My friend she loves the Lord and those adversities lead her to pray that much harder and pushed her to go that, much farther.

Now you are probably wondering what happen to my friend, what did she do with all of those degrees? Well she used them to help to bring out the best  in others. Sometimes the things that we accomplish are  for  others, it’s to help others to grow. After-all, God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. My friend sometimes felt discourage even with all that she had achieved.

My friend one day realized that she was living her dream. You too can live your dream if you only believe.

As a good friend once said,"Be like NIKE just do it !!!!!

That's right I said it. Who paid off Judge Townsend??? Why was he REALLY in the court room today???  This is purely politics at its best  the Judge made his decision today based  solely on his personal feelings. He granted things to Kilpatrick that his own attorneys did not request of him.  What role did moma Kilpatrick  play in the Judge's decision. If Kwame goes to that convention not only will Detroit, but the entire state of Michigan will be an even bigger laughingstock then we already are.  Even if the Judge rule that the city council can not remove Kwame, we still have the Governor and the recall petition.  Politics at its best.

Gave me a break! Now Monica Conyers is blaming the media for her troubles. Here this!! the media doesn't make the news they just report it. Detroiters that are supporting Kwame Kilpatrick please use you brain, Kwame is using you. Whatever is done in the dark always come to light, I thank the media for the  light bulb. A man that truly care about Detroit would have stepped down a long......time ago. His scandal from his actions is causing problems all around the city and the state.  Now Monica Conyers figures because his manipulation is working for him maybe it will work for her too. Kwame's sister already said that Detroiters are ignorant, and that's just how they are trying to play us like we are a bunch of ignorant fools.  No one got Kwame in trouble but Kwame and if it was any  one of us he would pass us by,  like we were a fly on the wall. People we are so much smarter then that. Don't allow Kwame's nonsense get YOU in trouble, because he's not going to get me in trouble I'm going to be on this blog writing about you all. That's right laughing saying that everyone of you are crazy. This is not the sixties they will throught everybody in jail. (LOL) Talk about him, read about him but do not try to fight his battles for him. PLEASE DO NOT LISTEN TO THAT NUT  M. SHABAZZ!!!!!  he's just like a couple of other people we know, just trying to make a name for himself. As far as I'm concern he did make a name for himself today......CRAZY!!!! Now you all know Kwame has enough money to fight his own battles and he also has moma Kilpatrick, now she created that monster so let her deal with him.

What is going on with Barbara Rose Collins? First she said that she didn't like the Kilpatricks then she said that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Then she turns around and say that he should  just be confine to his home????  Not to mention that she said that he didn't leave the country....Hmm.  Wasn't it just a month ago that he bought her for a chicken dinner?  I think that it is time to retire Barbara.

Detroit we must open ourselves up to real change, the kind of change that will make our city a proud and beautiful place to live again. Detroit still has so much to offer, but we as tax payers as voters must start  taking more of a pro-active role in our city government. In order for us to see that  positive change come about. We must no longer stand for crooks playing politics with our tax dollars and with our city. We must  no longer allow our elected government officials tell us one of their great  master plans and do not question the over all effects of their plan.  We need to find out everything about their plans like for instance who came up with the plan, what do they stand to gain from it, how will we the residents benefit from the plan, and what if the plan doesn't  turn out the way that our city officials are promising,  who will end up paying for it not working???? The answer is usually the tax payer.  We are the ones that pay for general contractors over charging in a city contract, because one of our city officials is getting a payoff, we are the ones who suffer when city workers are laid off and the work is outsource  to contractors in a so called effort of saving money, what have we saved when our city is deeper in debt every year and  these contractors are getting multi-million dollars contracts and then we have to sale another part of Detroit in order to balance the budget.  What kind of city management is that???  Sure it's ok to have different conventions and sports events coming to Detroit, but we need to benefit financially from those events and know exactly where that money is going and how it is being used. We must take firm steps now towards a real new Detroit. I know that I'm about to step on a few toes but I'm alright with that, because some people are so pro-black that they become the person that they despise. If you go downtown and many other parts of the city you will see that there are many suburbanites that come into the city on a daily basis and support city businesses; and many of those businesses would not survive if not for their support.  Furthermore, regardless of popular belief Detroit  is not all black.  In certain areas of Detroit it is like a rainbow, we have black, white, asian, hispanic  etc. Every tax payer dollar holds the same value, every resident's vote holds the same weight. If I was  of  another color other then black I would have a serious problem with  politicians  that I  was thinking of voting for encouraging people to vote for them  solely because they are black.  Being black doesn't mean that we have all of the answers, we must open our arms and our minds and enbrace diversity, enbrace change and that especially goes for Detroit public schools. Detroit can not solely grow to the pinnacle that we wish it to by  closing out certain groups or races of people; anyone that suggest that we can are only thinking of themselves and of what they have to gain by keeping us divided. We can not continue  with  business as usually in Detroit if we are sincere in our desire, hopes and wishes of achieving significant positive growth and change in Detroit. Stop voting for Detroit candidates just because they are black,  I grew up in a Detroit of diversity, strength and character, when need to get back to that. Deroit like everywhere else in American is a part of a global economy and alone with globalization comes diversity.

How does being a " WHITE republican from the suburbs" has anything to do with Patterson not wanting to be linked as a coconspirator of Kwane Kilpatrick?  It doesn't matter if you are a white republican a black republican  a blue republican.  Heck I am a african american democract from Detroit, and I wouldn't want to be linked to him in any shape, form, or fashion, but his race should have nothing to do with it.  When Joann Watson spoke of "a WHITE lady in Lansing" deciding the fate of Detroit,  it shouldn't matter if shes a white lady,  a black lady or an Asian lady.  Brenda Jones not wanting to hire Gooden as the city council's attorney because he is not BLACK  it shouldn't matter if he's not black. The city has over 180 attorneys working for them  and I'm sure most of them are african americans. But this  WHITE man is getting the job done, now isn't he? Then there's  Kwame Kilpatrick using the race card to incite cries of public support  for himself, during his city of state address. What is this world coming to?  Will we ever get passed race? More then half of my neighbors are white, many are black some are islamic and some are gay and love them all!  There is no room for racism  or prejudice in Detroit, or any other city in  Michigan. Wake up people, look around there is a new day a change has come. There are white people in the city, there are black people in the suburbs . When the next elections come go out and vote your heart, vote intelligently, and vote for the people who will truly improve your quality of life.  Don't vote because the canidate is white or black but because they are the right person for the job.

A great man once said " The measure of a man is not where he stands in comfort and conveyance but where he stands in challenge and controversy."(Dr. King)  This city is bigger then one man. It's bigger then his political supporters and general contractors, and his paid so called non-profit organizers. If we do nothing and stand for this crimminal behavior by Kwame Kilpatrick and his supporters then we are as guilty as he is. If the city counsel can not remove KK then we must start a REAL  recall petition and remove him ourselves. Like Anthony Adams said yes we the voters must decide and my decision is to through his a.. right  out of office  this is a democracy not a dictatorship and anyone who supports him  they must go too!

How can we the people in the city of Detroit move the city forward  when we have a corrupt Mayor? A Mayor that has been charged with several serious crimes and continues to hold public office. His trust has been broken and can never be regain. Just because he has been advised to go out into the public and give the appearance of public approval, nothing can be farther from the truth. How can we move our city forward when we have a Mayor that believes the best solution to solving our 2006 debt is by continuing to sell off more and more of Detroit's real estate. How can we move our city forward  when we have a Mayor that is advising us to go deeper into deep, and a debt that we will have to pay back through him raising our property tax. Or maybe our water bill again? The City Counsel is doing their job and they need to continue to do so. Where are the recall petitions???? The only people who will benefit from the Mayor's stimulus package is him and his General Contractors. If you're going to continue to interview Anthony Adams ask him some real questions.

Kwame Kilpatrick stand to profit the most from his stimulus plan. Most of Kilpatrick's supporters are people that he does business with; which many are general contractors. These are  many of  the people that are contributing to his legal fund, and also to his campaign  fund.  All of the money left over from his campaign fund  can be donated to any non-profit organization of his choice.  Not to mention the fact that  Kilpartrick and his family has a couple of non-profit organizations humm...... now isn't that interesting.

Now, what happens when the casinos loss money and we can not pay back this huge loan from Kilpatrick's stimulus plan? Well lets see Greek town casino is already in trouble, if not for some investors they would probably be closing their doors. Now how do you think we would pay back this huge loan? Kwame will raise city and  property tax just like he did for Detroit's bulk pick up, and yes I said bulk pick up  because if it's on our home tax bill and everyone has to pay it  then,  it's a tax. We were not allowed to vote on it. Another way the we will have to pay back this loan is through more sale of Detroit's crown  jewels. Now the Windsor - Detroit tunnel is next on the list for sale in order to balance the city budget for 2006 with other "surplus property", whatever that property may be.

Kilpatrick administration has laid off many of Detroit workers and has outsource much of Detroit's work to contractors.  Contractors like his friend Furgerson; you know the one that received  multi-millions of dollars in contracts from the city.( the one that beat up someone with a baseball bat)  But yet we outsource to save money. Yaaa.... right.....

Our Mayor never mention the fact that he had already closed up many of our police and fire departements. He never mention the recreation centers that he closed and  some of the small neighborhood  parks that he has  either sold or is still in the process of selling; part of the reason why we see so many kids out in the streets. He never mention the fact that the three hundred police officers that are being hired are replacement  officers for the five hundred that suppose to be retiring from the force. Well I guess he's trying to get more stuff that he can pat himself on the back for. Not to mention divert attention from one of  his many scandals.

Since home values are going down, when are home taxes going down?

Anthony Adams, Detroit's Deputy Mayor had the nerve to say that the city councils lawyer should not be working with them because of a conflict of interest, because  he has sued the city of Detroit before. This is another example of how our Mayor of Detroit and his administration is insulting the intellegence of Detroiters. The Mayor tried to hire attorney Charles R. Edwards for his defense lawyer and Mr. Edwards turned him down flat.  Mr. Edwards is one of the best lawyers in the state of Michigan and beyond. Mr. Edwards has represented many police officers in law suits against the city, but Kwame didn't  see that as being a conflict of interest. The Judge that may handle this case against Kwame and his girl CB donated money to Kilpatrick election fund, Kilpatrick attended this Judge daughter's graduation party but yet they don't see that as a conflict of interest.  Kwame's office is full friends and relatives that Kwame appointed yet they don't see that as a conflict of interest. We all know of the longterm  affair with his Cheif of Staff CB, and again he didn't see that as a conflict of interest. The only conflict of interest that I have is having a Mayor who is charge with several crimes  still  holding public office; and a mother who happens to be a U.S. Senator that came to Detroit, called the Mayor "our boy" and told Detroiters to turn off our t.v. and not to read the newspaper. They are always playing the race card and a sick effort of brainwashing the people of Detroit.

My daughter attends Detroit Public Schools and I pray everyday that she is going to come home safe. You hear every year about someone that has gotten shot at one of the high schools it happens so often that many times it doesn't make the news. If it happens around the block from the school they don't consider it a school shooting even though  it may had happen on the way home from school. This is Detroit school system, class rooms are overcrowed. If they have textbooks many times they are outdated and the schools are overcrowed. Detroit students have many more challenges then suburban kids. Sometimes tough love is  one of  the solutions.  If these cops go light on these kids they will walk all over them.  I support the Detroit Police 150%. I support  Detroit turning the school system over to charter schools, we need to try everything availabe to save our kids, because what we are doing now just isn't working. If the Police didn't get that situation under control  yesterday ; that situation could have gotten totally out of control especially this time of year. If you notice  the students they interviewed was supporting the police, some of those kids out there yesterday were not  students, they were not in uniforms. The police help to protect our  school children not hurt them.  If it wasn't for them we would have total chaos

Monica Conyers is putting an eye sore on the great city counsel members that we currently have in Detroit. She needs anger management  or she needs to choose another career. She  made a mockery out of the process that the city counsel is now going through; which is to protect the interest of the residence and tax payers of Detroit. This is not the first time she has acted in an unprofessional and inappropriate manner. She needs to step up to the plate or step down, as Detroiters we are tired of the non-sense; which is why so many of us are now  steping up to the plate to initiate  positive, honest  change within our community. Ken  Cockrell  who is our president of city counsel has always on every occasion acted and carried himself in a calm and professional manner, my suggestion is that  the next time that she or any counsel member acts in an uncontrollable  manner is to totally ignore  them  and have them physically removed from the meeting with repercussions; such as a fines, this needs to be written into our city charter. There is no place for ignorance within our city counsel when another city counsel member shows total disrepect for their fellow counsel members and also all of Detroiters.
