On Monday night at the Fireworks, I had a chance to interview Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and let me just tell you that the man has so much charisma it's not even funny.  I'm not old enough to know what it was like to be in a crowd when the Beatles were around but I have to say when Kwame walked in to the party were I was on Monday, the scene must have been similar.

People just wanted to get close to him, touch him, take their picture with him, and/or get an autograph.  If I had a dollar for everytime I heard "WE LOVE YOU KWAME" I would be able to retire right now at the ripe old age of 29.  To be honest with you, I was stunned at the reception he got.  Regardless of what my personal opinion of the man is, I'm just here to report the facts.  And the facts are that people in the City of Detroit embraced that man like I have never seen a man be embraced before.

As far as the interview went, I thought is was pretty good.  Let's be honest, I'm sure he granted me an interview because I am a SPORTS reporter, and usually I have nothing to do with NEWS.  He probably figured it was going to be a cupcake interview and for the most part it was on the lighter side of questioning that someone else may have given him.  But you have to account for the scene in which it took place.  I wasn't there covering a Detrroit City Council meeting, I was there at a charity event watching the fireworks.  There is a time and a place for everything and that wasn't the time nor the place to ask him about Beatty or Strawberry or Perjury.  I thought the Interview was fair and topical.  I would love to know what you think.
