CHRIS HIGGINS & INDEPENDENCE DAY

4TH OF JULY OR INDEPENDENCE DAY??
This time last year I had been blogging for less than a month. I was glued to this computer constantly, reading and commenting on silly, fun blogs and making great new friends. Sometimes I would read something here that would really make me think.
Chris Higgins wrote a blog a year ago about whether to call this week's holiday "The 4th of July" or "Independence Day". He talked about his love for this country and urged us to change our habit of referring to it so casually. I have thought a lot about that blog. My patriotism runs deep and is, among other things, at the very core of who I am. This Friday, July 4, we are honoring OUR United States of America and how WE started out. "The 4th of July" makes one think of barbeque and picnics....but is not truly honoring this great country that we have been so blessed to be born in.
Happy Independence Day!!
ARE YOU A "DOER" LIKE FIGMAN?

I was talking with fellow blogger, Figman, yesterday....
He has been watching the flooding news, like most of us. He heard the people in Çlarksville pleading for sandbagging help to anyone who could come and decided to go there and do it. There are people, good people, who would never just pack up and drive somewhere to help strangers. I think that sort of thing is either wired into your brain or it isn't. But some, like Figman, just felt like he HAD to go there and help out. Kudos to you Figman, and all the others out there who put aside their own plans in life to help neighbors, friends, and even strangers.
FOX2 IS NICE TO GIRL SCOUTS!!

Last week, my daughter Faith's Girl Scout troop took a tour of Fox2. We are working on a "communications badge". It was unlike anything that I expected.....it was BETTER than I expected! Dan Gray and Jane Beckman did the tour and what a tour we received! You know, it would have been easy for someone to show us the station and point out a few things and 15 minutes later, we could be on our way. That's NOT how Dan and Jane did this. By the time we were finished, those little girls were dreaming of professions in broadcasting and other careers associated with the news station....and I am certain that each one of them are now loyal Fox2 viewers! Watch those ratings go up.....!!
I can't thank everyone enough who had a part in this tour! Girl Scout Troop 1829 is so grateful and pleased with the kindness that everyone at Fox2 showed us last Tuesday night. Thank you....thank you....thank you!
Jana and Mr. Wildflower...

Good evening all...
I have debated all day about writing this post, but decided to ask for your prayers for our friends Jana and Mr._Wildflower.
Jana found out this morning that she does have pneumonia in her left lung (she suspected pneumonia) and she is really feeling bad. If you know Jana, then you know she puts herself into everything she does 100%, and I think she has just finally run herself down.
Tommy (Mr._Wild) is having some pretty severe symptoms involving his heart. He is currently in the hospital and having many tests. He didn't want a fuss made over him, but I told him that his blogging family would want to know so they can be praying for him.
I know this is a busy time for everyone, but please take a few moments and pray for our friends here. They are both just dear to my family, and if you don't know them...say a prayer anyway!
Thanks...

IS MYSPACE SAFE FOR ANYONE?

Everyone is sad over the young girl, Megan, who killed herself after being harassed on Myspace. I have a myspace account, and so do many of the bloggers. Fox2 even has their own myspace account. I have only had one situation where I had to "block" someone from leaving me messages....and actually he still finds a way through that block to leave a message every month or so. My account is now set to "private".....
My daughter Faith has been asking me to help her set up a Myspace page. She is 11 and many of her friends use this as a fun way to leave messages, share pictures, and be silly. I'll admit I have enjoyed having my own page and getting funny little comments from my friends. What do you honestly think about Myspace in regard to safety issues? I know I have a tendency to share too much information even here on the blogs (when I do that, I get an email from Mr. Wild telling me to "delete such-and-such comment!) Give me your honest opinion about this and how I should handle it for my daughter!
Thanks!

Okay bloggers and bloggettes......
Jana, Sissytrucker, Perky, and I hit the road and met at BreadCo. to check out the turf for Saturday!!! We found out the BreadCo. is really a "work-a -raunt" when Sissytrucker and I got cold chicken noodle soup and we had to heat it in the microwave! We had a blast and of course, had to take a picture of it all...only problem was, we weren't prepared for a photo session. That's okay girls..."I have 6 extra pair of sunglasses in my Jeep!!" So we went undercover for our picture......
Now we're wondering who will be joining us on Saturday for the BIG event of the weekend......

NEW LAW FOR HANDGUN PURCHASES
Aug 20, 2007 | 6:42 AM PST

The last time I purchased a pistol, I had to pay for it, apply for it, wait for a background check, drive all the way back to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department to apply for a permit (more $$).....then take that permit back to the gun store to finally receive my gun! It was redundant to have a background check AND have to apply for the permit.....under the new law (SB 62) , it is no longer necessary to apply for the firearm permit at the Sheriff's Department. This was a subsection to the bill, which contains the Castle Doctrine~~making it LEGAL to use deadly force against intruders in your own home. I am very pleased with these changes, and take my Second Amendment rights very seriously.
What do you think?
