This week, Huel Perkins was joined by political consultant Sam Riddle, as well as FOX 2's Lila Lazarus and Dan Miller.

The panel discussed what some members labeled as the "dysfunction" of Detroit city government. They also commented on the dismantling of Tiger Stadium and recent comments by Jesse Jackson.

It is a true shame that the city can no longer take care of business because everyone is trying to grandstand and prove that they are the innocent one. I live in GPW but I will be a part of the "Clean Slate" campaign!! Get rid of everybody, Kilpatrick, Cockerel, Conyers etc. The whole kit and kubootle!! Detroit is now dysfunctional, misdirected and totally out of control!!

As for the N-word remark. Yes it's a bad word no you should not say but to my white friends, enemies, colleagues, neighbors, and everything in between, you must must understand.... The N word has only negative connotation coming out of the mouth of a white person. NEGATIVE!!! Oppression, abuse, lynchings, disassembling of the black family, Jim Crow. Blacks have tagged the N word as a term of endearment. Is it tacky? Why sure it is! Just as the B word is between female friends and the list of words that men use would go on forever.

It really bothers me when whites say NO ONE should be allowed to say it! It means something totally different okay!! Get over it!

Contrary to the opinion of the panel, I believe that the Council melee today is a healthy sign that some of the Council has decided to question the Mayor and his team of yes-men and demand some accountability. It is hard to decide what is "normal" in Detroit lately, but the Mayor's condescending comments met the standards of the past, grinning, chiding, and ending with a demeaning implication that the vote didn't count anyway.

What a disappointment! I have never seen a network put it's own out on public display for the world to judge their personal commentary. Has Huels show gotten so bad that he now has to invite the Sports Guy and Health Reporter to do political commentary. I have supported Lila and her work with Breast Cancer Walks for a long time until tonight. Your credibility with me will never be the same. At least Monica Gayle was smart enough to stay out of that "MESS" There where several friends at my home watching and surprised to see the set up for the show, and we all thought it was unprofessional and un-nessary. Too bad Huel and his guest did'nt make better choices but hay neither did Franchion!

But, but.......Kwame and Jesse buried the N word! Remember the big old public funeral they all had ferfer? LOL No one should use it period. Can`t have cake and eat it too ya know. Just like ol Jesse on his oops tape saying the N word and he didn`t mean it nicely......how come Sharpton isn`t boycotting him like he did Imus? All he said was he was disappointed in him......LOLOLOLOL Hypocrites one and all.

You can bury that word 24 feet under and it still will not be as offensive when white people say it! Anyway the word is still used with whites, blacks and everybody else but the word still carries much aggression and offense. I don't understand why other folks don't understand! It is OFFENSIVE when used by white people! Is that so hard to comprehend?

ferfer,

You're missing the point on what former_detroiter is saying, you are separating the two races by your comments. You can't say it's only offensive if Whites use it and it's OK for Blacks? That doesn't make sense. You mention, "the N word is as a term of endearment." What does that mean? It's gotten to the point that Negro and Color are now racist terms, but you have the NAACP and UNCF. As of a few days ago there was a Dallas Counselman saying that "Black Hole" is a racist term too and even said anything with "Black" in it is racist. Of course there's racial issues, but don't even believe it's just Whites. If you think that, then why was Obama nominated? 83% of voter are White.
But back to the point, you have a Civil Rights leader that walked with MLK and he used the N word towards Obama in such a negative way doesn't give him the right and should not get a pass, I though Jesse thought that word should never be used by either race?

I found this week to be the best one yet. It is time for the Council to come to grips with the fact Kwame is there until he puts on his stripped Pj's. It is also time to stop pulling your necks in like turtles and get on with the job of moving Detroit foreword. There is a Federal investigation going on but worrying about that must not stop Detroit's healing. I don't think the council was wrong with the bridge, as Kwame's posse just didn't do the hard numbers as requested. Ken if you are to possibly be a potential next Mayor now is the time to show Detroiter's a way through the fog of this mess.

Jesse stuck his foot in his mouth, as Al Sharpton , Don Imus and the rest have. We are all human and we shouldn't call for the removal of anyone for obvious misgivings. Bury the "N" word isn't possible until organizations like the Klan, and NAACP are dismantled. No race should be allowed to unite unless all of them are free to do so without public persecution.

Lastly I go to a site called POGO on line and when folks here I am from the Detroit area I sure get razzed

Kick me Tall, because I totally agree with you on that issue. I'm sick of the "African-American", "Asian-America" labels. American should only be used. Christ it's 2008, it's human nature to not alway get along, but dividing Americans is wrong in this day and age.

bye-beMI,

I do agree with you 100% on the Jesse subject, he meant it in a negative directive! But I was not speaking of it the N word when its used negatively. I see many people (black men) greet each other with a smile and saying "My N word" or "That's my N word!". That is what I mean as a term of endearment. Jesse obviously did not mean it as a term of endearment. And I have yet to see a white person say the N word to a black person or regarding anyone and in the translation "Good to see you!" or "What an intelligent person." is meant!

My wonderful bloggers, We all agree the word is not nice and can be offensive! I'm trying to help others understand that the N word is used when expressing positive or good emotions from black .. SOMETIMES! Better yet ask a black person! Most will tell ya it can mean both but not Jesse. (I promise I will bury this subject and not defend it anymore :)

What cracks me up is you have the known racists Jackson and Sharpton running around accusing everyone else of being racist and demanding severe penalties, but when they are caught flapping their racist jaws they get excused? You have Kwame whose mess involves ALL BLACKS screaming the race card at his State of The City address whining about the lynch mob mentality and being lynched. Blacks lynching blacks? How unique. lol These men and their racial pity party antics are more offensive and disgusting than the N word will ever be.

I`m glad Ken stood his ground and kept Kwame`s klown in line. Adams was out of order and was grand standing just like his boss does all of the time.

You know ferfer many whites do realize the different usages of the N word, but with it being used as a term of endearment by blacks and even the younger white hip hop generation people are getting desensitized. The only ones having a fit about it pretty much anymore are the politicians who need a photo op and activists who need publicity. It`s a nice lil cash cow for them all.

Another reason why some whites really don`t care about some racial causes anymore (like the N word ) is because of all of the reverse racism going on and it`s acceptance. Why fight for another race when that race gets away with what they condemn you for? Just look at a lot of the racism on City Council that has been documented in the recent past and no one has said boo about it. Why doesn`t Kwame have any whites in his cabinet? (other than himself he is part white.LOL )

former_detroiter,

I agree the politics in Detroit is shot to hell! I think that the "race card" ploy was supposed to be deter everyone for what is really going on but everybody saw through it!

As for Jesse and especially Al Sharpton, what once was a genuine attempt to bring about racial harmony has lost its luster and is now a gimmick! Leaving true racial relationship left to singer, celebrities and bloggers :)

fer fer,

Isn't that what "Dog" Chapman was fired for? He just got back on the tube again. I think Jesse and Al have the right to preach about racism, but they must apply it both ways. It would also be great if one time when they have been proven wrong that they would find it in them to apologize.

When a black person calls you their "N" they don`t care about your color. It is term of endearment. This is wrong and creates a double standard for all of us. People of all races won`t stop saying it. If blacks use it then... everyone can. You can`t choose who can say it and who can`t. And you can`t control people from using it in a demeaning way as Jesse Jackson did.
Thank goodness it was black on black or Sharpton would rear his ugly head!
