Declaring our independence? From: Barack Obama (info@barackobama.com) Medium riskYou may not know this sender.Mark as safe|Mark as unsafe Sent: Fri 6/20/08 6:18 PM Reply-to: info@barackobama.com To:

Make a matching donationSince we announced our decision not to accept taxpayer funds for the general election, tens of thousands of people like you have come forward to declare their independence from a broken system.

This decision frees us to build a movement of millions of people giving whatever they can afford to a campaign that is truly reforming the way our political process works.

It also frees us to take our campaign for change to parts of the country where Democratic presidential candidates haven't spent too much time in the past.

Our first television ad of the general election season goes on the air today.

Sure, we're on the air in places like Ohio and Florida, the typical battleground states. But we're also on the air in North Dakota, Montana, and Alaska -- places that have emerged as competitive because of the unprecedented grassroots energy supporting our campaign.

These ads are supporting a 50-state ground operation that is being built right now by staff, volunteers, and thousands of Obama Organizing Fellows.

But we have our work cut out for us, and we need to grow this movement. Right now, you can declare your independence and help us run a campaign that is funded by the people and for the people.

If you make your first donation today, a fellow supporter is standing by to match your gift and double your impact. You can even choose to exchange a note with them and share why you are supporting this campaign.

Add your voice to our movement by making a matching donation now:

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

Choosing not to accept these taxpayer funds was not an easy decision. I remain committed to fundamental campaign finance reform, and as president I will work to fix this broken system.

But we're facing opponents who have become masters at gaming the broken system as it stands today -- collecting money from Washington lobbyists, special interest PACs, and relying on so-called 527 groups that can take unlimited contributions to peddle lies and smears.

We have chosen to do things differently. You can see for yourself what kind of people own our campaign -- each of these folks have made a donation in the last 24 hours:

Sandra from Tennessee:

"I'm on disability and can't afford to give much but I figure the $10 is worth it. This is the first time in a long time that even the ones who can't afford it are giving, and are excited about a candidate and excited about the process."

Monica from South Carolina:

"The way that this primary and now this general election campaign have been funded truly gives the power to the citizens that are voting. This administration will owe the American people, not lobbyists and special interests groups."

Mauve from Iowa:

"THIS is true public financing. Getting average Americans from all backgrounds and tax brackets to care enough and to believe enough and to hope enough to give what they can."

Tim from Texas:

"Today, for the first time in my life, I contributed to a political campaign. I did so because I have always believed that true power rests with the people, if only those people could be organized. We have the power to take back our country from the special interest groups. There are more of us and when we act together, we are the force that can dictate the direction our country will take."

Join Sandra, Monica, Mauve, and Tim in declaring your independence. Make a matching donation today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

Our fellow Americans are counting on us, and the stakes couldn't be higher -- we can't afford another term of George Bush's disastrous policies.

We have a responsibility to win this election and deliver for them.

But with Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs declaring that they will spend hundreds of millions to tear us down, it's up to us to stand up for the change we need.

More than 50,000 people declared their independence since our announcement. Support our campaign for change and declare your independence today to help reach our new July 4th goal of 75,000 donors.

https://donate.barackobama.com/match

Thank you for everything,

Barack

A few hours from now I will step on stage in Detroit, Michigan to announce my support for Senator Barack Obama. From now through Election Day, I intend to do whatever I can to make sure he is elected President of the United States.

Over the next four years, we are going to face many difficult challenges -- including bringing our troops home from Iraq, fixing our economy, and solving the climate crisis. Barack Obama is clearly the candidate best able to solve these problems and bring change to America.

This moment and this election are too important to let pass without taking action.

That's why I am asking you to join me in showing your support by making a contribution to this campaign today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/gore

Over the past 18 months, Barack Obama has united a movement. He knows change does not come from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue or Capitol Hill. It begins when people stand up and take action.

With the help of millions of supporters like you, Barack Obama will bring the change we so desperately need in order to solve our country's most pressing problems.

If you've already contributed to this campaign, I ask that you consider making another contribution right now. If you haven't, please take the next step and own a piece of this campaign today:

https://donate.barackobama.com/gore

On the issues that matter most, Barack Obama is clearly the right choice to lead our nation.

We have a lot of work to do in the next few months to elect Barack Obama president, and it begins by making a contribution to this campaign today.

Thank you for joining me,

Al Gore

I like your nerve Kendall. Too bad I don't agree with any of what you're pushing for, I can still appreciate your grit. So many of Obama's supporters want him because he'd be our first black president. But that just doesn't fly, it's not a valid reason. I wouldn't vote for him if he was white. Inexperience, his patented tax and spend philosophies just are not the answers for a drowning economy.

I think people will be surprised by McCain. He's had to walk a very thin line to keep hard core Conservatives on his side without looking like a continuation of Bush's policies but he has a history of getting bipartisan support on hundreds of issues in the past as a senator which is terribly important with the democratically controlled congress. That's a trait Bush never demonstrated which has caused this long period of gov't never getting anything done. I'm not a huge McCain supporter but he seems the lesser of two evils.

Most of the Republicans in here really can't stand Al. I would offer a bit of advise and edit your e-mail address off the top of this blog. I'm still not sold on Obama but I am not sold on McCain either.

Kendall,

Don't give up in these blogs there are more Republicans than Democrats. At the polls it is just the opposite. If you like Obama then stay. Get the information out so others can see in him what you do.

Kendall,
Two things. First, Obama's insistence that we not drill and just be "satisfied" if the price of gas goes up "slowly" shows a real disconnect between the "masses" and his elite friends. He says we should all "conserve". For gasoline usage fine, but should we tell Mother Nature to cancel the winter? $5.00 a gallon for home heating fuel is not acceptable. Liberals use the line, drilling won't help right now. No sh!t. And it never will if we don't start today. Drill early, drill often, and most importantly, drill TODAY.
Secondly, Obama has already said he would intensify the war effort in Afghanistan and has suggested we should go into Pakistan if necessary.
I'm not sure you're really paying close enough attention to BO's platform. It's the same old liberal "eco-friendly" approach that has put us in the energy crunch we're in today. Here's an idea, if you bump into Barack, ask him how long he thinks it will be until we develop "alternatives". and more importantly, how expensive will they be?

Al Gore as been accepting millions from his fake global warming scam. You might think he could afford to give a buck or two. I didn't realize that these blogs are being used to drum up money for a candidate. Where does the pandering end?
You are all fooling yourselves if you think Obama gives a rat's a#@ about you. His policies ideas are merely an extention of FDR's socialist givaways and ultimately will give the government signifigantly greater control over your lives than it already has, as well as turn this recession into a full blown depression. The Socialism experiment has been a resounding failure around the world, as evidenced by the multitude of Conservative Elections wins including Canada, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, among so many others. Socialism will get you the same double digit unemployment that plagues Europe. Socialism will keep you in the ghetto and reduce your oppurtunity of financial success. Socialism is destroying the family unit. Socialism must not continue.

Lady? We don't see any lady. We see a spoiled rotten little child who wants to take her dolly and run home to MOMMY

Disrespectful? Anyone who votes or considers voting for BARACK-NO "HUSSEIN" OBAMA MUSLIM OSAMA BIN LADEN is disrespectful and an outright idiot.

Good God, get a real life and get your head out of a mirror before it cracks from the ugliness that appears in it.

you people with your bad mouth Bush crap crack me up. I never said McCain was or is a saint. If anything, you people, along with massive support from the mainstream media, have propped Obama up to be some kind of saint or savior. I'm saying he isn't all that, and that his ideas are archaic, unoriginal, and misguided. ESPECIALLY with regards to the military. They have yet to work in Europe, and won't work here, period.
This election, we have one mediocre candidate, and a false idol. I'm not particularly sold on McCain, but Obama will never be the "best" man for this particular job.

Kendall: Please explain Obama's position. Obama and Clinton has called for $1 trillion in tax increases over the next ten years and dressed them up as "tax cuts". Obama received preferential treatment in regards to his June 2005 Mtg. Obama's rise to power has been a direct result of his ties to a corrupt Chicago Political Power. Why do you feel he's our man for the White House?
