Today was my first day as a Fox 2 News intern for the Web Team!  I will periodically be sharing with you my experiences during my internship, opinions about stories in the news and maybe even some personal accounts of my life outside of the internship.  This is my first blog, so here goes!
I was able to get a first hand account in the studio of just how the 5:00p.m.news is compiled.  One of the stories on the news tonight really struck me.  It was actually one that hits close to home, since I am from Monroe.  A man and a woman were arrested in Frenchtown Township, after stealing a donation jar.   This story was unusually appalling.  Stealing is a horrible act to begin with, but I just cannot believe that someone would steal from a sick child.
The boy they stole from is Tommy Brancheau an eight year old Monroe resident.  The money being collected is to help him receive medical attention at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.  He is suffering from a rare lung disease and his muscles are deteriorating.  This poor family is doing their best to help their child and these two people are completely insensitive to another’s suffering.  I have to wonder, what were they stealing this money for?  I would guess it was most likely something insignificant.  Therefore, these two people threw away their integrity for what…jail time?
The funny part about the whole scenario, if there is a humorous side to this incident, would have to be that they were caught on the surveillance camera.  This is what I don’t understand about criminals, their idiocy.  They stole this donation jar, but didn’t even think to check to see if the store had a surveillance camera, unbelievable
If you would like to learn more about Tommy or to donate to his cause follow the link: http://tommybrancheau.pledgepage.org/

Welcome Kelly, If someone is stealing donation jars I doubt it's to help offset the cost of their college tuition's.

Isn't that incredible how heartless some people can be? That boy is fighting for his life & those donations are giving him not only a bit of financial relief but keeping his spirits up and maybe a smile on his face. Good post & Welcome to the MyFox Detroit blogs!

Kelly,

Welcome to the Blogs. Didn't these two live in a trailer park across the street? What is it about Mobile Home parks that draw these people? You can turn on Springer anytime and just be awashed with the dreg's from the Park's.

Greetings and Salutations Kelly to the blogs from an Un-Michigan blogger (Mpls). Alas and alack, hi Shock, Jax (grrr), Car23A, and Tall.
STEVEISACARTOON - HEY DUDE, CALL US...K?

Kelly, we must admit that your story resembles the same thing that happened here in Minneapolis, and sadly, this little girl child was unable to substain her life.

Would that tiddly little bit in a donation jar have saved her? No, it would not, and did not save her, but honest folks gave what they could to help her family financially. But the media attention alone, brought that much more heartaches and pain to the parents (and family members) of the little child, and that's what sickens most people.

You've got to be a gutless coward and thief to do something so low down as this.

Tall, there has to be some unwritten rule that states if you have to be trash, then you need to start out by purchasing a used trailer in a trailer park and begin to live like the rest of the heathens who don't give a damn about their lives. Grant it, we lived in a trailer court ourselves after our house burnt, and we had police there every, "every night". We had kids running free that were always dirty, unfed and uncared for.

It shouldn't be a place that disgust people that drive by or have to live there temporarily, for it takes but an iota of unlaziness to at least clean things up. You can only pile up so many tires and bags full of beer cans and broken windows before your place is a replica of the other trailers. It's a shame, but it's a reflection of inbred laziness.
