ANOTHER THING THIS CITY HAS HAD ISSUES FROM THE BEGINING. I LOVE THIS CITY. DETROIT BECAME DETROIT ON JULY 24,1701 (WHICH IS MY DATE OF BIRTH IN 1981).THIS CITY WAS NEVER EVEN RECOVERED FROM THE RIOT ON JULY 23,1967 ( KWAME WAS NOT EVEN IN OFFICE THEN). KWAME IS NOT A GOOD GUY BY ALL MEANS BUT THIS CITY FELL APART WAY BEFORE KWAME.
I'M ONLY 26 YEARS OLD AND THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS SITE THAT ARE OLD ENOUGH TO BE MY PARENTS. SO MY THING IS WHY DO ALL OF YOU CARE NOW? WHY DIDN'T YOU CARE ABOUT THE CITY IN 1967, 40 YEARS AGO.
PLS

My ex wife was born on July 24th so?
If you also know your history well you will know Detroit was founded under identity theft!
This person took the idenity of a member of the Royal family to secure provisions etc..

Many of us were there in 1967, the point being you wasn't. You seem to rely on so many past issues to account for the present, don't you? The fact of the matter is that Mayor Kilpatrick brought this scandal on himself & the city taxpayers by lying in the first place; Then actually covering it up with Stefani, along with discussions through city-paid devices seeming to laugh off the firing of 3 valuable DPD officers. Of course you wouldn't remember when Kwame & his mother Carolyn were State Reps, would you? Look uop Kwame's voting record on key issues in the Legislature-Kwame Kilpatrick MISSED 365 voting sessions, 2nd only to another Rep from Detroit. This was in a one-year period from Jan 01 to Jan 02. And you want to say he has always cared for Detroit or Michigan for that matter??? PLEASE!!!

in 67 i was 5 and lived 1/2 mile north of the city.

since that time detroit has been one big hell hole.

The only mistake i made was moving into the same county as Detroit as i have to pay more for insurance because of Detroit.

My question for you would be why do you defend your mayor so much do you not care about Detroit?

In my opinion most don't care now, they just like to complain. If the city's doing good or bad doesn’t matter to them, it's just something to talk about. I bet if you ask the loudest mouths in here whoTALK about the city of Detroit’s issues haven’t been to the city in YEARS.
Some fools even wanted to boycott Detroit, when they don't even come to the city anyway! What would that have fixed?
If they loved Detroit so Much why did they leave?
Most that talk, do just that. TALK!

P.S. Just try to ignore all of the ignorant posts that I’m sure you will receive from posting your opinion.
Booker T Washington said it best:

Any race that yields to the temptation of hating another race because of it’s color, weakens and narrows itself. Whenever I can propose to teach my people to take the high ground, to teach them if others would be little, we must be great, if others must be mean, we must be good, if others should try to push us down, we must show a broader sprit and help push them up.

No where in any post was race brought up as an issue. Yes you would like to blame it on race as that is all you carry around with you as a troll. But no one we responded here said anything about race

I think SEEDUB was fishing (Race Baiting) to see if he would catch something.

Honest question isupportdetroit, why do you think Detroit is the way it is?

My opinion, is that most people don't care. Look at the houses? I'm sure you keep a clean home. I keep two clean homes. I live in a gated community in Florida. I keep a nice home in Chesterfield. Had to tell a neighbor to cut their yard once in a while, but we won't go there, not in this blog.

RACE CARD

As an individual we are responsible for the results of our actions based on our good, bad or stupid ways! There is no provision in the law stating any race gets a pass when commiting Felonies! When payment for crimes comes due they may take Visa or Mastercard, but the race card is not accepted!

Did you ever stop to think the race Booker T was referring to was his own??? And you know why black & white left the city, Seedub and still are leaving. Your "talk" is what most people from across the nation see and cheap entertainment IS hard to find. You stay right there and support your Mayor & the city government; After all, your wallet feels the pinch, not mine. It's just a shame that the city is going down the tubes & many of the people are too blinded to see it-Then again, do they REALLY care?????? BTW, use your race-baiting blame game tactics on the ones that are in the scandal & the supporters, not us "outsiders". But then again, this is typical of you isn't it???

Car
I'm sure he's was talking to all races, but it's funny that you would try and exclude your culture.

Busy day Today I'll be back later.

p.s.
What have you done to help the city even when you lived here?

Coleman YOUNG WAS NOT THAT BAD. IF YOU PEOPLE KEEP PUSHING DETROIT, IN YOUR TOWN IT MIGHT BE ANOTHER RIOT OF 1967.
Young's 1973 Mayoral campaign addressed the role an almost all white police department had in inflicting violence upon a mostly black city. Young pledged the elimination of one particularly troubled police unit, STRESS (Stop the Robberies and Enjoy Safe Streets.) This one police unit had killed eight black citizens in its first four months of operation. In November 1973, Young narrowly defeated Police Commissioner John F. Nichols (who would later serve as Oakland County Sheriff) to become Detroit's first black mayor. Young promptly disbanded the STRESS unit, integrated the police department and increased patrols in high crime neighborhoods utilizing a community policing approach.

Young won re-election by very wide margins in November 1977, November 1981, November 1985 and November 1989, for a total of 20 years as mayor.

Young's administration was controversial, and he found himself the subject of continued FBI scrutiny amid allegations of contract kickbacks, although no evidence was ever found. He was criticized for his confrontational style toward suburban interests and the apparent diversion of city resources to downtown Detroit from other neighborhoods. Young was generally popular with the inhabitants of the city proper, while generally disliked by those of the suburbs.

Young was a tireless advocate for federal funding for Detroit construction projects, and his administration saw the completion of the Renaissance Center, Detroit People Mover, Joe L

i'm a 26year old female. i live in detroit. i have lived in detroit my entire life (almost). i work two jobs (one as a personal asst. and one as a call center rep). i'm not on welfare. i do not have a house full of kids. i don't have one child to be real. i don't live with my mother and i have not since the age of 21. i come from a well balanced background. i go to on line college ( which i know people put you down for, but there was no money for me to go to school, thanks bush). i have been working in the state since age 15. i am proud to live in the city of detroit. to all you people that think all people that live in my city are on welfare, not true. i will tell the truth after my father was murder on the streets of detroit my family and i were on welfare. my mother went back to college (u of d mercy) so she could support us later. this was over ten years ago that we went through my father's death and welfare. so sometimes welfare is a stepping stone to get up a hill. my mother has now once again went back to school, and has worked for michigan health board for seven years, as a social worker.
