Maybe someone can explain why the mayor of detroit has to have a mansion to live in that the taxpayers pay for. How many other mayors have a mansion to live in that we pay for. I don't care how many people live in the city, the mayor should live in his own home and pay his own utilities and such. They make enough money to do this. Also why the bodyguards? I thought Detroit was a safe city! How many other Mayors have this?  Someone please expalin this. The city needs to sell this place, as I see no need for it.

How many days has Monica Conyers worked in the past couple months? It seems she is never around, first she was sick-that was a month off-What was wrong with her that she took so much time off?  now she supposedly has these days off(during the week).if she is to be council President wouldn't you think she would be on top of things by being at work? Does she have so much sick time and vacation time that she can do this. If so maybe I should run for council then I can never work too!

This  was in community paper in which I live written by Micheal Beer who is a member of United for a Fair Economy.

He writes: I'm am aghast at the Bush asministration's giveaways to the wealthy, whether it's the brazen war profiteering in iraq, the protection of oil companies windfall profits, the crony capitalism in New Orleans reconstruction or the bailout of irresponsible lenders, but not foreclosed homeowners. As the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence say the purpose of government is to promote the general welfare and to protect our life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness- not to help the wealthy people and big corporations loot and pillage our common wealth.

President Bush revealed his true colors with his massive tax cuts to the rich,$477 billion to the richest 1% over this decade.I think thats immoral and I'm glad were are promised a change in values. So what is revealed by each canididates current tax proposals?

Questions ask- www.faireconomy.org Question1-who benefits and who loses under your tax proposal? McCain-The ultrarich, the top 0.1% whose annual incomes range $3million to hundreds of millions a year would pay an average of $1million less in taxes in 2009 under McCain. McCain would give them a tax cut and Obama would give them a tax increase. For middleclass Obama would give back $1000 on average to families making between $37,000 and $66,000 a year while McCain would give $319. Poor families making less that $19,000 and year would get and extra $19 a year from McCain, and Obama $567 as well as a $500 per person in the Earned Income Tax credit. Obama plan would repeal all of Bush's tax cuts to families making over $250,000 while McCain would make them permenent. Obama's plan would also increase taxes on investments to bring them closer to the levels of taxes on income from paychecks..

a recent USA Today /Gallop poll found that more voters rate Obama higher than McCain on "moral values" and far more think he would do a better job on the economy.

the government can't tell employers how much to pay, or investors where to invest, but it can adjust the tax code to stop the wealth transfer to the rich.

My comment-As part of the under $19,000 a year group Obama sounds like he is for the middle and poor class of people who make up the bulk of the populations and actually do the labor for the millionares of the world. They wouldn't be millionaries if it wasn't for people like me who do all the physical labor while they sit on their ass counting all their money.

why is it all we hear about from both candiates is about overseas? Doesn't anyone in our government care about the good ole USA? Right know the only part of overseas want to hear about is bringing our troops home. It's time McCain and Obama take care of business at our home front.

our government needs to pay more atttention to us than overseas. they have made so many cut backs in social services, medicaid, medicare and have gone to computers to pay bills with not enough people to oversee these charges. on the news tonight it was stated that medicare was charge for supplies ordered by dead doctors. one person ordered 544,00$ in supplies and recieved it. Social Workers have been cut back so tight that they can't follow up on the abuse cases so our children suffer. people that need help from medicaid can't get it because there are so many people on it that shouldn't be on it.All our money is in Iraq and our officals pockets and the people that elected them are suffering. It also said on the news that Iraq said its time for us to start pulling out as they believe they are finally getting things under control. our dear president said he didn't think so. no time lines will be given. also on the news the other day this guy was complaining that they have so many forclosed homes its costing them a fortune to up keep the houses and pay taxes. Well maybe you should of worked something out with the homeowners to keep them in that house, even if its 300$ a month, at least its something and the house would be kept up!

more gas rip offs i have noticed! now gas stations are charging for the use of a debit or credit card to cover their cost so if you use  one of those you pay more. the station across from me charges 3.88 a gal too use debit or credit and 3.77 is you buy one of their car washes with it at a cost of 5.00 or more. there car wash is one of those mini deals that take 2-3 mins and really doesn't do a good job. how many car washes are necessary. I have never carried cash around, i always used my debit/credit everywhere. now i have to keep some cash on hand just for gas. whats next are we going to pay for credit services at resturants, retail etc. maybe we are and don't know it. what going to happen next? I'M TIRED OF THIS AND GETTING POORER EVERYDAY!!!

I have learned today that the dr you see for your injury is not responsible for other ills you may have that are irrataited by the medications he gives you. so my dr has been pumping me full of pills( which I have fought him on) and they have cause me megga problems with my stomach and breathing. I have been to 2 drs and emergency room for these issues (lacking insurance) and have had to scrap money together to get cobra which my company (oops) didn't send me info on in the 45 day limit. he has been nice though and written me or given samples to ease problem but i think now the problem is to the point further testing is going to be needed at my dollar. There job is to help or correct the injury only. Screw what happens to everthing else pertaining to your body. Our government systems are all messed up. I just read that blog about that little girl, Diann. these things shouldn't be happening to anyone.

At first I thought this was funny...then
I realized the awful truth of it. Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his bed,

Tax the table

At which he's fed.

Tax his tractor,

Tax his mule,

Teach him taxes

Are the rule.

Tax his cow,

Tax his goat,

Tax his pants,

Tax his coat.

Tax his ties,

Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.

Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more, Tax him till
He's good and sore.!

Then tax his coffin ,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

Put these words
upon his tomb,
" Taxes drove me to my doom..."

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago,
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world. We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.

What the hell happened? Can you spell "politicians!" ?

And.... I still have to "press 1"
for English.

I hope this goes around THE
USA  at least 100 times.

This should of nevered happened to him. the story was on fox 2 this morning and on the web site.He now owes 72,000$. Thats after going to emergency rooms before about the same issue. I had a breathing problem, my work comp dr said it was probably acid reflux asthma. i was nervous about that so i made a appointment with my dr. they said they would give me a discount. because of shortness of breath and a not so good ekg i was given the choice of going to a cardio dr or the emergency room. i was crying not because i might have a heart problem but because i knew the expense and that oakwood would do little for me due to no insurance and send me home and the expense of a cardio dr scared me. i chose the cardio dr and his ekg and exam turn out ok but did make recomendations. my dr charged me 117.00 which i have to make payments. the cardio was going to set up payments but he only charged me 55.00. I got lucky on that dr and told them how grateful i was. Then i started looking up all the side effects of the meds my work comp dr is giving me and oh boy, no wonder i having problems which will be discussed with him.

This gentleman should get help from the hospitals, they can put alot of this to  the charity account they have but he will have to apply to medicaid first and this takes about 6months to get and answer. There is help out there but these hospital don't tell anyone about it.

Lee Iacocca  Keep an open mind when reading this, he means this for
both Democrats and Republicans alike...
>
> This makes sense no matter what political party you might be
for.........The two party system ????
>
> Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from
it's death throes? He has a new book, and here are some excerpts.
>
> Lee Iacocca Says:
>
> 'Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's
happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody

murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state
right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind,
and
we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car.
But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads
when the politicians say, 'Stay the course'
>
> Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the
damned 'Titanic'. I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the bums out!'
>
> You might think I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker,
and
maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this
country anymore.
>
> The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys

in handcuffs. While we're fiddling in Iraq , the Middle East is burning

and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving 'pom-poms'

instead of asking hard questions. That's not the promise of the
'America' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for. I've had
enough. How about you?
>
> I'll go a step further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're
not outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have.
>
> The Biggest 'C' is Crisis !
>
> Leaders are made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis.

It's easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory.
Or
send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a
battlefield
yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling
down.
>
> On September 11, 2001, we needed a stron g leader more than any
other
time in our history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the
ashes. A Hell of a Mess. So here's where we stand. We're immersed in a
bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. We're
running the biggest deficit in the history of the country. We're losing

the manufacturing edge to Asia, while our once-great companies are
getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are skyrocketing,
and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in
trouble. Our borders are like sieves. The middle class is being
squeezed
every which way. These are times that cry out for leadership.
>
> But when you look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the
leaders gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are

the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common
sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the
point.
>
> Name me a leader who has a better idea for homelan d security than
making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo?
We've spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and
all
we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.
>
> Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina.

Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the
hurricane, or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made

in the crucial hours after the storm. Everyone's hunkering down,
fingers
crossed, hoping it doesn't happen again. Now, that's just crazy. Storms

happen. Deal with it. Make a plan. Figure out what you're going to do
the next time.
>
> Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we
can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have
believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three' referred
to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important,
what
are we going to do about it?
>
> Na me me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying
down the debt, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health
care
problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are
eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.
>
> I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn't elect you to sit on
your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is
being
hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity. What is
everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on Fox News will call them a

name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show some spine for a change?
>
> Had Enough?
>
> Hey, I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I'm
trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope; I believe

in America . In my lifetime I've had the privilege of living through
some of America's greatest moments. I've also experienced some of our
worst crises: the 'Great Depression', 'World War II', the 'Korea n
War',
the 'Kennedy Assassination', the 'Vietnam War', the 1970s oil crisis,
and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11. If I've
learned
one thing, it's this:
>
> 'You don't get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for
somebody else to take action. Whether it's building a better car or
building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play.
That's the challenge I'm raising in this book. It's a call to 'Action'
for people who, like me, believe in America . It's not too late, but
it's getting pretty close. So let's shake off the BLEEP and go to work.
Let's tell 'em all we've had 'enough.'
>
> Make a 'real contribution' by sending this to everyone you know and
care about......our future is at stake!

> BRAVO FOR THIS MAN'S SPEECH.  WE NEED MORE LIKE THIS ONE

no matter who wins there is such a mess to clean up from the previous president everyone will look down the the new president. I think of Bush as a american Sadamm. He is no better and thinks of himself. He has cost us Americans trillions of dollars for no reason then to do what his Daddy couldn't do. We went in to help fix Iraqs problems, they aren't cooperating, I believe now if they want us there to help they should be paying us for our cost there.

The funds that are being set up for Kilpatrick and Beatty are disgusting. Any monies obtain from these funds need to go to the hungry and to the schools that need school supplies so they can learn. The two of them have wasted so much of the taxpayers money, let them pay for the lawyers themselves.

Heres a thought, I am on work comp and have no insurance and was turned down by the state for medicaid, (I'm in the 50yr old category where there is a freeze by the goverment for us old folk) How about we set up a fund for people like me and many others who need health insurance and can't afford it. Or we can just use Kilpatricks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally digusted with our government
