Back in the '70s it seems a teenager didn't have all the entertainment options available today. A lot of us "cruised", rocking out to music...it all seemed (mostly) quite innocent. Do they do that any more? One of the popular places for us at the time was South County White Castle and Steak 'n Shake. From 16 through early '20s it was a lot of fun, especially if you had a cool car. I even met my first husband at White Castle in his '70 Charger (and we went through quite a few other muscle cars over the years) , although I was18 at the time driving my mom's '72 Plymouth Duster LOL!

Guilty as charged here. Worked 24 years in a fairly prestigious position, at a local multi-billion $ company. Then lost the job, a marriage, nice house (now in a mobile home) along with a physical setback while finishing up a trade college diploma all at about the same time. Worked as an insurance consultant 9 months until getting laid off for lack of business. OK-I'm now at your friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart as a temp set-up associate through the summer to transform it into a supercenter. (Hey-it's a job) It's been almost 2 months and still having a hard time to admit it to most people. Several times have seen persons shopping have known for years and would have liked to say "Hi", but ducked to avoid contact because of embarrassment....wrong or right? btw, was awarded "Associate of the Week" in our dept. today, so is that really even worth mentioning...because it IS "just" Wal-Mart"?

Oh My Gosh!...Even though I often express opinions from my heart rather than brain-this news just made my day. Was devastated when he got injured and replaced by Kurt Warner back in '99(?) ...well, it worked out, anyway, for the Rams at the time. He's no "kid" anymore from Vianney (my brother and in-law went there, sis was Homecoming Court), so let's just hope he stays healthy, because we all know he has the talent and hometown friends backing him up now, for what it's worth.

Have one child, a daughter. Recently got her learner's permit. Well, yesterday, turned her loose driving for the first time with me. Even though she'd been previously classified "gifted" and in advanced courses in HS, does that guarantee common sense behind the wheel???.... Don't bet on it. lol! Though only HAD to make a comment now and then. She kept drifting to the right with occasional excessive speed. I handled the sudden braking and acceleration OK-she has to get the "feel" of the car, right? We travelled about 25 miles on highway, suburban streets, and two different retail parking lots, as well as some parallel parking. She did pretty good, I guess, at least I didn't suffer any heart attack. I know maybe you just have to let them get the hang of it-(and, "sorry" to mom and dad, if you had to go through this too, with me)...Anybody else have any stories about learning to drive or teaching your own kid?

Are there any groups anymore that excel in vocal harmonies? I can think of a few old favorites, such as CSN(Y), Everly Brothers, Beach Boys, Beatles, Queen, ....but may be now missing something and need to be brought up-to-date. There's just that certain "something" that makes them stand out.

Who would you like to have seen and heard , and maybe miss, from the past for whatever reason? Some of my choices (in no particular order)...Buddy Holly, Jerry Garcia, Bob Marley, Marvin Gaye, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Freddy Mercury, Duane Allman, and of course Janis, Jimi, Jim Morrison, John L.,George H. ,- Keith Moon and John Bonham left us too early, too.

Did anyone catch Chalk Talk last night? Just caught the last of it and they were discussing the possibility of Chris Pronger returning to the Blues next year (for the right amount of money). Do you think this could happen? After all, his wife is from here and his child was born here....and remember one reason he wanted to leave Edmonton and ended up in Anaheim was because his wife was not happy in Edmonton. Hmmm....

Now I know a lot of you will disagree with me on this, but feel saddened by Ike's passing away. Bear in mind I don't overlook the the way he mistreated and abused Tina and am sure probably others as well, having read Tina's powerful autobiography and seen the movie. What can't be ignored was his talent , influence and historical contributions to the music industry... About 10 years ago my then husband and I were sitting at the bar at Mississippi Nights, when Ike sat down next to me. (Ike, Jr. was playing that night). My husband nudged me and said it was him (he had a hat on and I didn't recongnize him.) Then I got (just) a little nervous...but he was very quiet, pleasant and only drank coffee (with A LOT of sugar. ) Btw-also saw Tina Turner (at about age 47) perform at the Fox back in the '80s. Mom went and really rocked out-we both loved it-and she (Mom) would have been around 60!

Is there one? Correct me if I'm wrong, but does he still have a year to go on his contract? Although believe the front office would keep him around, he might not feel the same way. It seems to have been an unusually tough year with all the injuries and personal problems. If he's not back, any idea who might be a replacement? I'm no expert, but wouldn't Jose Oquendo be interesting? A player with us for 10 years, in every position, and coaching a few years, he definitely knows the organization.

Recently learned a lesson the hard way. Throwing common sense out of the window, we purchased a '93 Mazda MX3 for $1,500 "as is". Our neighbor (who is a certified mechanic) sold us his car, claiming all it needed was a new battery and said the car had 79,000 miles on it (Turned out to be 179,000) Well, my boyfriend put the pressure on and I gave in, since he already fell in love with it, although I wanted to have my own mechanic give it a going-over first. We didn't do that and have spent over an additional $1,500 (so far). Had to replace the radiator, brakes, valve cover gaskets, timing belt, and also needs fixing several not- as important things, such as the motorized shoulder restraints, electric sunroof, paint job and new tires all around (Future projects). This week, everything was fixed, (at least to legal specifications), passed inspection, purchased the auto insurance and plates. We had already bought a new battery, but it was defective, so exchanged it for a new one yesterday. After installing it, guess what? No juice. So now just had the car towed back to the shop (another $50) to have another look at it -may be the wiring?... and we're back at square one. If you EVER, EVER buy a used car, HAVE A TRUSTED MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT FIRST, even if you're buying it from a relative or "friend".

Yes, this is a tragic accident, and my heart goes out to the boy's family and friends, but it could have been prevented. First of all, children that young MUST have supervision by an adult or at least a responsible older person when swimming. Secondly, no child should be wearing a flotation devise designed for a larger person. That alone could have "tangled" him up where he could not upright himself when he first got into trouble...such a sad story.

...Well, musical instrumentally challenged, am I....As an adult has anyone ever regretted not taking music lessons as a child (including vocals)? Boy, I have. It would be great to now sit at a piano, pick up a guitar or be within a drum set and produce. Growing up, we really couldn't afford it , although never really pushed for any opportunity. My daughter's been lucky to take 2 years of guitar (practiced 1/2 hr. every night) and also plays a band instrument in HS. Maybe she'll thank her father and me some day! Do you fellow bloggers play any instruments? (We know Glenn does.) What kind and for how long have you played? Any kids following in your footsteps?

Got a little nostalgic tonight . Heard on the radio the old "Another Park, Another Sunday" by the Doobies while making a run to the gas station. Sure miss them and Patrick Simmons' pure, clear vocals. (Michael McDonald was great, too!) ....Was Take'n it to the Streets while Listen'n to the Music Rock'n Down the Highway. This weekend, might have to go catfishing in in some Black Water because What are Vices are now Habits.
