The internet has been around for a long time now, and if some are close to my age, well we been "around" the internet from day one almost! Times sure have changed. AOL was always great to instant message people. Then came myspace, opening a huge can of worms for the planet. All the way down to the youtube.com facination. Oh if you havent looked on that sight, you WILL find it facinating! You can see just about anything on there..the good bad and yes even the ugly comes out in americans !

It had me thinking. Am I the only one who takes vacations from the internet? It can be a day, a week, etc. It sure does make a difference.

It gets heart wrenching sometimes, the worst that spews out of some people, here on the internet. Here where there is just about no reprisal. Here when people can write just about things where they would never ever say to someone in person. It does get tiresome.

My thing is blogging here on myfox, and I also blog on an driving website. I used to be big on mom message boards, and instead of being a place to vent and get great advice, I got a lot of bickering, catty gossip. (maybe theres better sites out there for moms..I hope)

I always live by the rule, "Treat others as you want to be treated".  Even when I am faced with the most ugliest (inside I mean !) people. I dont know what it is. My first reaction is always one that trys to show the other person how they are acting. Trust me, I do lose sleep at night on those days, thinking "I shoulda belted that person..etc".  Shoot I am human! One good thing was I met a few nice moms. One to this day I can call a real friend.

Anyone else feel they need to take internet vacations from time to time?

Michelle

I admit, being a stay at home mom gets pretty boring at times, so the internet is my escape..my way to associate with people my age, people who share my interests, hobbies, problems, goals. I haven't tried taking a vacation from the internet yet, but I think its something worth trying. Who knows, maybe I'll be taking a couple of days very soon...I wonder if I will be missed..LOL! I wonder if people will notice that I'm missing..

Oh, and just like you, I too have met wonderful people on the internet, especially here on myfoxny.com.

Michelle...
you are talking about putting yourself under mouse arrest.
The serene life is one which strives to find proper balance & moderation, in all one one's activities. If the periodic break works best for your heart(as in being wrenched), mind, sleep patterns, blood pressure, etc, go for it.
And, LFF, I would know you were missing. You're one of my buddies here!

LFF You surely WILL be missed if you did take a vacation !

It does get lonesome staying home. When they are really young like your boy, there isnt all that much interaction with other people outside the home. As soon as they got to school, I was volunteering for everything I could! It got me out the house and involved with the kids. I'll admit though, the internet has been a good outlet for me as well on slower days. :)

Hey Michelle,

How are you? Haven't talked in awhile. You have posted comments on my blogs, so now it's my turn to return the favor. It is funny you posted this as I just got back from taking a mini vacation from the internet. I went down to the Jersey Shore to my sister's house on Sunday and got back yesterday, and the whole time, I only went on myfoxny one morning when I felt I had to post a comment. I had a great time with my sister, my brother and sister in law, and my 3 nephews relaxing on the beach and swimming in the ocean. I never miss the internet when I go away, and yes, I try to take breaks at other times, but since I work on the computer half the time, it is difficult to do that. My best opportunities are on the weekends when it is nice as I would rather enjoy the outdoors than sit in front of a screen. It used to be only the T.V. that hypnotized people, now it's the computer and the T.V. Like anything else, if used too much, it can become an addiction, if it is used in moderation, it will remain under your control.

Candy, of course you will be missed! You probably should get away from it for a few days, but not too long, ok? It would be good for you, but bad for us. Oh well, we'll just have to cope with it, you'll help with that, right Doc? :)

Have a great night all of you! Bye for now.

Tom

Tom ! Thats great to hear you had such a nice time! We all need breaks from time to time. I think yours was one of the best choices.

I love the beach. My very best thing to do even when its not all that hot out. Something about playing in the sand, feeling the gritty coolness between your toes... brings one back to childhood.

As always, nice to hear from you.

LFF - you will be missed. But short mini vacations or staycations are good all around. I am on the PC all day at work and sometimes I can not even imagine looking at another screen - although I sorely miss my fellow bloggers - once in awhile I guess it is good for the soul so to speak..

Vacations from this damn internet is a must to keep my sanity. As far as telling someone to go relieve the itch in his rectum I can just as easily say it to the person's face as I can saying it here !!
