Forgiveness!

Whenever you hear from  Kwame supporters of late, This is the word that is inevitably hanging from the tips of their tongues. Forgiveness! "Forgive the Mayor!" they cry! "He is human, just like you" they say. 'Let he whom is without sin cast the first stone" they proclaim! Very powerful words indeed!

However, I'm beginning to think that forgiveness is not what they seek after all!
I'm beginning to think that they are throwing the "F" word (Forgiveness)  around as a way to cloak what they REALLY want, and what they REALLY want is for the citizens of Detroit to yet again, turn a blind eye to the inappropriate, illegal, and highly questionable behavior of The Mayor!

Let's just say....for the sake of this post...that we, The citizens of Detroit (and it's surrounding suburbs) decided that we were going to do as the kwame fans want. Let's just say that we collectively "Forgive' the Mayor! In fact...let's announce it on the evening news! Let's get on the air and say:

We the citizens of Detroit and it's surrounding suburbs would like to announce that we FORGIVE the Mayor! We know he is only human (as are we), and we would like to Forgive him for what he has done! With that being said...We would now like to ask for the Mayor's resignation.

Somehow, I don't think that would go over so well. Somehow I suspect that our mere 'forgiveness" is not enough! In fact, I don't think they give a rat's BLEEP if we forgive him or not! What they really want....what they really really really want..is for us to reactivate The Mayors "I'm above the law" card, his "I'm beyond reproach " card. His "I can do whatever I want because I'm the Mayor" card! That's what they really want.

The fact is, forgiving kilpatrick and letting him keep his position as Mayor of the city of Detroit are two separate issues entirely. We are being asked to forgive him AND let him remain in office and that's just plain stupid!

I have heard many stories of women being able to find it in their hearts to forgive the men who raped or molested them, I've never heard of one yet that turned around and hired their attacker to baby sit their children! That's what we are being asked to do with regards to the Mayor.

We can forgive The Mayor. Carlita seems to have forgiven him, maybe even The officers who lost their careers can someday forgive The Mayor, but that doesn't mean that we have to continue to entrust him with our city! It doesn't mean that he should be in the position of power, making critical decisions pertaining to how our tax dollars are being spent, and deciding which of his cronies he wants to make rich next!

So Mr. Mayor, The citizens of Detroit may very well forgive you!  Unfortunately, you may even be able to stay in office....but as for what will happen to our city if you remain at the helm....well,  I believe there is another "F" word more appropriate for that!

You have a way with words City Blues. With the lose of integrity and respect Kilpatrick is useless now to the City of Detroit. All the forgiveness in the world won't change those facts and they can't be bought.

Tell me what the Bible calls a person that continues to do the same sin and keeps asking for forgiveness just to commit the same sin.

I am a proud Detroiter who was born in the Motor City and have remained in the city or near suburbs for my entire life! I'm pretty shy until you get me behind the safety of a computer screen and then...watch out! The keyboard becomes my instrument through which I share my two cents! I know, I know...two cents ain't much in this economy..but they're mine and to me....they're priceless!
