I just would like to remind people that it is illegal to park in a handicap parking spot. Not only that but it is illegal for a handicap driver to park in a handicap parking spot while you sit in your car and someone runs into the store, also it is illegal for someone to drive a handicap driver using the handicaps car while the handicap person sits in the car and someone runs in. Handicap parking is there for the use if the handicap to be able to park and have easy access to the door not to be missed used for your selfish convenience. I have seen a lot of this during the Holiday season! This evening I saw someone pull up sideways using two handicap spots while someone ran, and yes RAN into the store at SHAME ON YOU!

alot of people are using public transportation these days to commute to work run errands
etc/hats off to smart bus dealing with the traffic out there!there are many stops along gratiot route 560 please be alittle more tolorant out there we have as much right to the
road as those that can afford to drive/don't get behind bus if in a hurry/don't pull out in
front of bus they can't stop on a dime like a car can/when that bus stops quick to avoid
a driver not paying attention, us that have to stand certain times of the day get shifted
around with out notice/and last but not least we are not scum of the earth for those who
drive by us while we are waiting to board the bus/so please don't sling obsenities at us

I know when I am older that I am going to miss the craziness of my kids school activities, but lately, my life has been totally nuts...!!!
I have two boys, one in High School and the other in Elementary, and both of their schedules along with mine and my husbands', make for difficult quiet time, not to mention family time. I, personally, find it unnerving that I don't get to spend as much time "together" as a family because of all the extracurricular activites that take up ALL of the downtime that, let's face it, all of us need. Even more so, the weekends, which used to be "family time" when I was growing up, are now so completely filled with sports games, music recitals, birthday parties and playdates...that I sometimes find myself looking forward to Mondays! Remember going for a Sunday afternoon drive to visit the grandparents??? Uh hum...not any more!
I'm not talking about this to complain, but instead to merely emphasize how important I think it is to make time for downtime, and especially family time. I try to make it a requirement, that we eat dinner together at least one or two nights during the week. (we always, have Sunday dinner.) So what does that mean? It means, that I try to schedule a night where there is no soccer practice, or football practice, or football or soccer games, no baseball practice, no piano, no scheduled "parent meetings" at either school, my husband is home by six, and I actually have the energy to prepare a nice healthy dinner...("not chicken again!!!"),...for my family. WHEW!!
I know it's a lot, especially after working a full-time job (and waking up at 3am!), but I firmly believe it's worth it! I love my family, and I love being together, and I feel better, when I have had that special time with them. I also find it's a time when they tell me things about school or friends, that they might normally not, because they usually don't have the time to decompress and relax...but at dinner time, for some reason, they do.
I also have figured out a couple of easy, fresh, healthy and delicious meals, that really take no time in preparing, and I soon will share some of those with you here in the Ladies Room. Let's face it, the more we can help each other out with keeping our families together, and our schedules less crazy...let's do it!

FOX 2 Political Analyst Tim Skubick reported Thursday that a task force in Lansing will meet next month to discuss funding methods to improve the state's crumbling roads.
The issue could even wind up on a voting ballot near you in the future.
So, what do you think?
Are you willing to pay more in state taxes to improve roads?
Are you in favor a county tax to ensure your money is used on roads that you commute?
Should the state be more fiscally responsible and find other ways to pay?
Sound Off here and let us know.

Jennifer Granhom wants to save the citizens of Michigan's spendings on fuel. I support that, but I also take into deep consideration the lives that are lost in the freeway accidents. Seems the use of cell phones, lack of sleep, DUI, road rage and tail gating, Just to name a few reasons this proposal should be considered. I personally have found myself riding the streets more. The freeways speed increase allowed drivers to increase speed, but they drive even faster than the speed limits posted. Everyone is in a rush. Innocent people are being killed on the highways. when do we consider this. Why wait until, we lose one of our loves ones. I encourage all to look at all the sacrificies we take and sacrafice our lives to slow down and search deeper for resolution to this high death rate on Michigan roads. This can save your life as well as your love ones.

Are you going to ride?www.ridetowork.org

Some fuel facts:
TOTAL FUEL CONSUMPTION - 2003
Motorcycles 191 million gallons (50.1 avg mpg x 1,800 miles per year per motorcycle)
Passenger Cars 74,590 million gallons (22.3 avg mpg x 13,000 miles per year per car)
Light Truck/SUV 56,302 million gallons (17.7 avg mpg x 13,000 miles per year per Lt Trk / SUV)
US Dept of Transportation, Bureau of Travel Statistics
NORMAL WEEKDAY MOTORCYCLE COMMUTING DAY FUEL USED (estimated)
150,000 commuting motorcycles x 5 mi average commute distance x 2 (both ways) = 1,500,000 motorcycle commuting miles per day. 1,500,000 motorcycle commuting miles @ 50 mpg (avg) = 30,000 gallons per commuting day.
100,000,000 commuting passenger cars, light trucks and SUV’s x 6 mi average commute distance x 2 (both ways) = 1,200,000,000 car, light truck and SUV commuting miles per day. 1,200,000,000 car, light truck and SUV commuting miles at 20 mpg (avg) = 60,000,000 gallons per day.
RIDE TO WORK DAY FUEL SAVINGS (estimated)
150,000 motorcycles use 30,000 gallons per normal commuting day x 2 (an estimated 150,000 added motorcycles on Ride to Work Day) = 60,000 gallons used by motorcycles on Ride to Work Day. 60,000 gallons used on Ride to Work Day - 30,000 gallons used by motorcycles on a normal commuting day = 30,000 additional gallons used by motorcycles on Ride to Work Day.
On Ride to Work Day, there are an estimated 150,000 additional Ride to Work Day commuting motorcycles and 150,000 less commuting car, light truck and SUV’s. A 6 mile (avg) commute x 2 (both ways) x 150,000 commuting car, light truck and SUV’s = 1,800,000 car, light truck and SUV miles. 1,800,000 car, light truck and SUV miles / 20 mpg (avg) = 90,000 gallons. 90,000 less car, truck and SUV gallons - 30,000 more gallons used on Ride to Work Day = 60,000 less gallons of fuel used on Ride to Work Day. If every work day were Ride to Work Day, 60,000 gallons saved x 250 work days = 15,000,000 less gallons used per year.

I don't know if anyone reading this lives out this way, but I have to sound off about the construction going on out here. They are rebuilding the bridge on Benstein Rd.. There is also another construction project underway on Union Lake Rd. The traffic is unbelievable! No matter where you go or in which direction, you crawl at a snail's pace. They ended M-5 at PontiacTrail which creates enough traffic. Then you throw in the other 2 projects and no one knows where to go, or how to get there from one day to the next. Tell me how you feel.

Why is the city (DWP) continuing the median on Livernois? The reason or excuse that I have heard was to slow down would be crooks. The only thing that is has slowed down was traffic. Large cars, SUV's, and trucks have a hard time making turns in the tight Michigan u-turns. You can not make a turn on to Livernois from 6 or 7 mile road, and to do so you have to drive 1/4 mile past your turn to turn around. Now they are now extending it to Puritan.
The traffic on the Ave. of fashion has become a nightmare. Most of the people that live in this area do not travle on Livernois. They are using the residential streets as bypasses to get around the mess.
Question? With so many other streets in disrepair ( The Evergreen on-ramp to the Jefferies Fwy, Outer Dr. between the Lodge Fwy and the Evergreen, and 7 mile between Wooward and Ryan ). I can go on and on. I live on the NW side of town and these are the streets I use everyday.
yours truly,
Erkdogg - LOST IN TRAFFIC CONSTRUCTION.

I would REALLY like to see good PUBLIC transportation across the tri-county area - ASAP!! We used to have a nice train system that ran from Pontiac, to Downtown Detroit, all the way out to Chicago, and many points in between. We even had trolly cars that ran down Woodward all the way to Royal Oak!! Can you imagine how different - and better - things would be if we STILL had a good Train and Trolly system in this area???
Every strong city has a good public transportation system that allows people to get around economically, and as our population quickly gets older, the need for a good public transportation system is even greater!!

Does anyone know if there is any way of getting reimbursed for damages that were caused as a result of hitting a pothole? I know that it's not just me because the guy behind me hit it also got a flat. I had my car towed and just found out that I need not only one tire, but TWO. On top of that, I also need two new wheels and an alignment. With labor and all, it's going to run in the area of $800. I wasn't expecting to have such a huge expense - between this and now the gas prices??!! My whole paycheck has gone toward car/transportation...makes me wonder if it's worth driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

...both financially and automotive-wise.
If you want to tailgate me, when I'm already doing 5 over the limit that's fine. But don't expect me to increase my speed just to please you. I'm not going to get a ticket because you want to bury the grill of your car in my license plate. Boy do I wish car's could fart on command!
Besides, if you're so close, you won't see the potholes I'm dodging and I'd hate for you to suffer the bone-jarring effects of some of those sinkholes growing on VanDyke.
But hey, if you insist on driving so close, why don't we just carpool? You're on the hook for gas money then!
