I'm ready to pack up the Vans and go to Bell Isle. I want to take my grand kids for a walk on the River walk, or take a ride to Canada thru the tunnel and come back over the bridge. I would love to take them to Holland or Frankfort, Michigan. (I've never been) I'm going to several Tiger games. I want to pack a picnic basket and take them to Rouge Park swimming. I don't want to worry about the state of the union, or my City. I want to enjoy all of the great things I can of this State and its' people. Is anybody with me? Can we have a positive blog about are area. When I stayed in the burbs of San Diego I made it plain that I was from Detroit. I saw the Crime rate rise in San Diego while I lived their. (eight years.) You never heard anything negitive about San Diego while I live there, even though their Downtown area was the worst I've seen. They had drive by's, and gangs like any major City, but you only hear positive things about them. I seen the infamous interview with Coleman Young and Bill Bonds, on T.V. while I lived in the Suburbs of San Diego. I was motified. How do you defend your City or region when you are your on worst enemy?

I have fond memories when my grandfather took me and my cousin fishing there when we were very young! We didnt catch any fish, but it wasnt the point of the trip to me. We had hotdogs and I remember the sounds like it was yesterday. I had just received my hearing a short time before and everything was special at that point!

This own "Worst Enemy Thing" is what I keep asking....and all that anybody replies with is the worn out "Racist".....

It keeps the fires burning and extends the hatred from generation to generation. Their own groups & activists profit from exploiting the white culture as the reasons for their own problems that are ususally created by no one else but them in today's society. And people are taking notice and learning quite well how to read between the lines too. Of course with today's mindset, anyone not of color has no right to speak out and defend their culture. Go figure.

Mid, I would use the spell check if I knew how, but thanks for the advice. Please tell me how my remarks turn into something racist?

Actually, I was answering your question about how one can defend their own city & region when they are their own worst enemy. Your post didn't seem a bit racist to me but I though my answer fit the question quite well. My point was that there are many that don't care about any region's reputation and defend their actions with blame game tactics instead of owning up and fixing their own problems by working together with others.

My bad Car7858, now I understand what you were saying. I wasn't raised to be racist, I am multi-cultured, and as such I can't identify with any one race. I embrace them all. I simply believe in the Golden Rule. It has carried me a long way. When I grew up in Detroit, all the Mayors were white. Jerry Cavanaugh I believe is the last White Mayor Detroit has had. There was an exodus going on. Whites were leaving the city in groves. The Detroit school system was failing are youths way back then. I'm speaking about my own personal experience in the late fifties, early sixties. The police were corrupted and bullies. I remain positive about my city because I know Detroit will survive. Detroit isn't just Black and White after all, and everybody here is not on Welfare and poor. I love Mike Illitch. He never lose faith in Detroit, and neither have I. He's not Black and he put his Money where his mouth is.

Born and raise in Detroit, there has been 3 world series won by the Detroit Tigers in my life time this will make number 4. I am old enough to remember 2. I went to Northwester high school with one of the 1968 Detroit Tigers, "Willie Horton" The first High School player to hit a ball out of Tiger Stadium, used to be known as Briggs Stadium. Yes I'm a tiger fan for life. I stayed in San Diego when we won in 1984. I had to watch the celebration on TV. It's true Detroit is a sports town all the way. I remember Gordy Howe, Dave Bing, Al Kaline, Barry Sims. I love Detroit.
