Obama Says He Was Too Flip on Abortion Question

WASHINGTON -- Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama acknowledged Sunday that he was probably too flip when he said it was "above my pay grade" to answer a question about when is a baby entitled to human rights.

Obama gave his answer last month at a nationally televised religious forum sponsored by minister Rick Warren at his megachurch in Orange County, Calif.

Asked on Sunday whether the "above my pay grade" answer was too flip, Obama said: "Probably. ...What I intended to say is that, as a Christian, I have a lot of humility about understanding when does the soul enter into ... It's a pretty tough question.

"And so, all I meant to communicate was that I don't presume to be able to answer these kinds of theological questions," he said in an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

In a separate interview, the answer to a similar question came easier for Obama's running mate, Sen. Joe Biden.

A Roman Catholic, Biden said he accepts his church's teachings that life begins at conception, but that the issue is personal for him. He said it wouldn't be right to impose his views on others who are just as religious as he is.

"I'm prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception. But that is my judgment," Biden said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "For me to impose that judgment on everyone else who is equally and maybe even more devout than I am seems to me is inappropriate in a pluralistic society."

Sacrificial Living

Philippians 2:3-8

3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!

Romans 15:1-3

1We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. 3For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.

Ephesians 5:1-2 1Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

John 13:34-35

34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Ways to live sacrificially:

·        Have the mind of Christ and become a humble servant.

·        Consider others more important than ourselves.

·        Deal with the failings of others by seeking to build them up and encourage them in the faith.

·        Be imitators of God and let the love of Jesus resonate in our daily lives.

·        Love one another in the same way that Christ loved us and gave himself for us.  If we do this others will see the evidence of Christ in us and God will be glorified.

Above is some evidence from the Bible concerning sacrificial living.  What are your views/opinions on this?

With the prophetic teachings of Jesus in the Bible do you think we may see the end of time as we know it in this generation?

Effectiveness of Prayer

2 Chronicles 7:14 (New International Version)

14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

The above is what I believe to be true. The prayers of God’s people have to be presented with a right heart and attitude.  God hears our prayers if we are His own.  This has been evidenced many times in my life.   Although, the answer is not always as I rationalized.  1 Corinthians 10:13 tells that God is faithful and will not put more on us than we can handle.  God always gives us choices but we have to seek his guidance through the study of his Word and prayer.  Many Christians have never established a daily prayer life.  I have to admit that to stay consistent in the Word and prayer is difficult.  But, God does not keep a record of our unfaithfulness.  He only desires for us to draw close to Him.  To imagine the creator of the universe desires a relationship with me.  How do you think that prayer (or the lack there of) to Jehovah God affects our nation?  I think that we as a nation have strayed from our first love which is God Almighty.  I also believe that we are going to be judged for our lack of trust and prayer.  What are your thoughts?

The following is an excerpt from Senator Barack Obama's 2006 Controversial Speech on Religion & Politics:

Now this is going to be difficult for some who believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, as many evangelicals do. But in a pluralistic democracy, we have no choice. Politics depends on our ability to persuade each other of common aims based on a common reality. It involves the compromise, the art of what's possible. At some fundamental level, religion does not allow for compromise. It's the art of the impossible. If God has spoken, then followers are expected to live up to God's edicts, regardless of the consequences. To base one's life on such uncompromising commitments may be sublime, but to base our policy making on such commitments would be a dangerous thing. And if you doubt that, let me give you an example. We all know the story of Abraham and Isaac. Abraham is ordered by God to offer up his only son, and without argument, he takes Isaac to the mountaintop, binds him to an altar, and raises his knife, prepared to act as God has commanded. Of course, in the end God sends down an angel to intercede at the very last minute, and Abraham passes God's test of devotion. But it's fair to say that if any of us leaving this church saw Abraham on a roof of a building raising his knife, we would, at the very least, call the police and expect the Department of Children and Family Services to take Isaac away from Abraham. We would do so because we do not hear what Abraham hears, do not see what Abraham sees, true as those experiences may be. So the best we can do is act in accordance with those things that we all see, and that we all hear, be it common laws or basic reason.
