I adopted a soldier back in Nov.  I was having a bad day and I figured the best way to brighten my mood was to do something positive for someone else.  So I went on the Cornbread site and scrolled through various service people you could adopt . While I support all of the troops some of the family members wanted their loved one "adopted " and were asking for high dollar items to be sent i.e video game systems ipods etc.  Then I happened upon one who has practically no family and all he wanted was cards, letters or hygiene products. So I chose him.  His name is Troy.  I sent him a care package before Christmas.  He wrote me back and told me his story, it is a HEART BREAKER. He is very thankful for all I have sent to him we write back and forth and I worry and pray everyday for him.  My husband  thinks this is great because he served in the first Desert Storm and his family did very little for him while he was gone.  They wrote him about how bad things wre here while he was dodging bullets.  They asked him for money while he was doing without supplies. so he wants to keep this young guy from feeling as alone as he did. I didn't know my hubby then or things would have been different. But I can make a difference for another young soldier willing to put his life on the line for us.  We have made this a family project and even my mom and brothers have gotten involved. My kids think its great and pray for him at school. I pray he makes it home safe so I can write about meeting him face to face.
