The statement was brought up about Obama's position about the war in Afghanistan I didn't realized it was said and not to my surprise the Media didn't report it.  I did a little research to see if Obama even said it.

This is what Obama said about our Military:

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama came under fire Tuesday for saying that U.S. troops in Afghanistan are "just air-raiding villages and killing civilians." The junior senator from Illinois made the comment Monday at a campaign stop in Nashua, New Hampshire.

"We've got to get the job done there," he said of Afghanistan. "And that requires us to have enough troops so that we're not just air-raiding villages and killing civilians, which is causing enormous problems there."

WOW and he wants to be in charge of our Military??  Maybe we can be like the French and get issued White Flags instead of bullets!!

If we abandon the Iraqi's before the time is right it will fall to the insurgents with major help from Iran and become a huge staging area for training and arming dissidents. Plus all who have given their lives in Iraq will have died for nothing like Nam. That's why McCain won't put a time limit on the withdrawal. It will be soon, a withdrawal in Iraq could even be before Oboneheads plans or it may not. Militarily a timed withdrawal is foolish and dangerous. We need troop strength to take Afghanistan but giving up Iraq will only give our enemy a free zone to train and arm, then slip into Afghanistan. With the mess in Pakistan, withdrawal in Iraq too early right now would be suicide. To put a left-wing junior senator in charge of our involvement in the Middle East now will be disasterous. In his four year term we could not only lose the war but we could lose our freedom.

Anyone who believes the war in Iraq will be won is Entirely Naive. They should go stand in the corner with the crowd who believed the same thing for Vietnam.

Like Vietnam, Iraq is Not Meant to be Won. It is Meant to be Substained. So the International Bankers can make as much money as possible off of it.

Wake Up People!!! Who do you think is gonna Pay for this war. You and your children!!! Who are you gonna pay? The International bankers who financed this war.

All of the War Supporters are just letting the Pay Meter run and The Soldiers Die. Such a pity.

Sen. Obama believes that we need to have more troops now in Afghanistan to do the job right.

However, Obama's comment is definitely a bit off. It is true that the civilians were getting killed, unfortunately. As a politician he need to be more careful of what he says. I am surprised to hear that from him. I guess he is not perfect after all.

Both Iraq and Afghanistan wars are complicated and tricky. They are quite different and the strategies to handle them will need to be distinct.

I did not support the Iraqi war from the beginning. However, I do agree cut and run is not in the best interest of United States. We, U.S., has made a blunder by disbanding the Sunni regime and replaced it with a Shia government. The power change will be costly for the U.S. in the long run.

Our desire to give Iraqi a democracy will eventually cause the redistribution of power, where the civil and regional wars are expected. In the long run, the Russian and Iranian will become the power brokers and will have more influence over regional oil resource than we do.

It is in our national interest, we must return the power back to Sunni's control. This is the only way to stop the Russian and Iranian's incursion, and stop a potential long and bloody regional war.

We have made the blunders because our lack of understanding of the Iraqi cultures. Both Sen. Obama and McCain's lack of understanding of the Iraqi cultures and war are very obvious. It means that we will continue to make wrong policies and blunder our way through the Iraqi war, as long as the Senators do not up

Vietnam and Iraqi wars are both unwinnable wars. In both wars, the U.S. military performed superbly. We have the best trained and equipped military in the world. No one comes close.

The underline problem is in the war policies. They are unwinnable.

The history of both wars have much similarities. In Vietnam, our enemy, BLEEP Chi Ming, had approached the U.S. and offered to work with U.S. at beginning of the war, because he did not trusted the Chinese nor the Russians. The offer was rejected. We were in era of cold war, U.S. did not want to deal with BLEEP Chi Ming because he was a communist. The end result was U.S. 56 thousands dead and smear in the U.S. military history. Vietnam had 10 million casualties. LB Johnson really screwed up. The war could have been avoided.

From the beginning of the Iraqi war, the Sunni insurgents had also offered to work with the U.S. military, but the offer was initially ignored by the U.S. Iraqi authority. The end result is 4000 needless deaths and thousands more seriously injured from IED bombs and sniper fires. What a waste.

The number of iraqi casualties are unknown currently.

Now the Sunni Insurgents are our friends. The U.S. military now pay and train them to guard Sunni's enclaves in Iraq. This is the reason why we were able to transfer control of Anbar province back the Iraqi Government.

People do your research. I keyed in : U.S. air raids& killing of Afghanistan civilians. And, my memory of those charges was renewed. As late as Sep of this year, May of this year, June of last year, March of last year etc..., There are reports of irresponsible conduct by our troops. They include an apology by Col. John Nicholson., A demand by Afghanistan Pres. Karzai Hamid to stop the bombing of Afghan villages, mortar fire & "revenge raids" whose only casulties have been innocent people including many children. During one raid 90 civilians were reported killed, with 60 of the 90 being children. The "official report" says only 5 were killed. The aforementioned comes from various news sources, and videos of Col. Nicholson apologizing, Of Pres. Hamid making pleas, interviews with civilians. Including one 7 year old boy who saw his mother, sister, grandmother and other family members killed. 19 were killed in that raid. 4 generations of one Afghan. family. The US was looking for his father, a suspected Taliban member. NO suspected Taliban members were found or killed ,just a family of civilians. With the attrocities of Guantamo Bay still fresh, and the Rules of Engagement set forth by The Geneva Convention. We'd just better be cautious when fighting in someone's homeland. How arrogant , to imply that the US is above the responsibility of protecting Human Rights. That caution is one of the reasons I am supporting Sen Obama. So we are not always viewed as The Ugly American. True, we must find The Taliban and certainly Bin Laden. But we must abide by the st

There are no innocent civilians ! You have to fight the enemy with the same game they use .
There are no innocent Americans in their eyes , so , why should there be any of them in ours ?!

Bye_bye. Thanks for the blog. I knew the reaction I would receive. But what the heck! I must admit Shock has a point. But, I don't see it quite that way. I have heard stories of women & children being used as human grenades etc.., But we are still Americans with an obligation to conduct ourselves with dignity. I have several family members in@ out of Iraq, & Kuwait. I pray to God they stay safe. But I don't want them to come back home as mental cripples, because of attrocities they might take part in.

marygrove,

I understand what you wrote, those stories are true. They hide within family's knowing that Americans won't bomb them? But I will tell you this, if there's a target of opportunity, the military will take it. You can't have a Senator make those remarks. By saying what Obama said, what did he prove to the American people?

shock,

I am not anti-war. I am anti-stupid war. Persian Gulf and Bosnia wars were well conducted, although not perfect and may not be truly just, but they were discipline and noble. The current Iraqi freedom invasion is not. It was and is badly planned. May be I am just selfish. I don't really give a damn about the Iraqi people and nor about their freedom. I give a damn about America. The Shia Iraqis don't like Saddam, but they like us less, so they can kill our soldiers with guns that are brought and paid for by Uncle Sam.

After 9/11, I wanted us to go after the people who did the atrocity. My blood was boiled. I was really surprised when we invaded Iraq instead of finishing up the job in Afghanistan. It did not make sense to me.

I was pro-Vietnam war. I was mad when we withdrawn from the war. I wanted to join the war effort. I was just getting out of high school, but the war ended.

May be the difference is now I am older. May be lives means more to me today, because it really bothers me that we are sending our boys and girls into harms way for reasons our policy makers themselves can not even justify.

I am semi-retired now, and I own a small business in a retirement community. I have met so many Vietnam vets. It really piss off me how these people are treated by our government. They treat like scums to kick aside. Our local police treat them like basic criminals. The merchants just want them disappear. Many of these ex-marines and ex-soldiers are just barely scraping by. They are still messed up by war, and nobody gives a damn abou

Subject: Do Facts Matter?

Do Facts Matter? Recriminations.

By Thomas Sowell

Abraham Lincoln said, "You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you can't fool all the people all the time."

Unfortunately, the future of this country, as well as the fate of the Western world, depends on how many people can be fooled on Election Day, just a few weeks from now.

Right now, the polls indicate that a whole lot of the people are being fooled a whole lot of the time.

The current financial bailout crisis has propelled Barack Obama back into a substantial lead over John McCain - which is astonishing in view of which man and which party has had the most to do with bringing on this crisis.

It raises the question: Do facts matter? Or is Obama's rhetoric and the media's spin enough to make facts irrelevant?

Fact Number One: It was liberal Democrats, led by Sen. Christopher Dodd and Congressman Barney Frank, who for years - including the present year - denied that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were taking big risks that could lead to a financial crisis.

It was Sen. Dodd, Congressman Frank, and other liberal Democrats who for years refused requests from the Bush administration to set up an agency to regulate Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

It was liberal Democrats, again led by Dodd and Frank, who for years pushed for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to go even further in promoting subprime mortgage loans, which are at the heart of today's financial crisis.

Alan Greenspan warned them four years ago. So did the chairm
