A friend and I were talking one night over dinner and we started talking about wedding rings and what the point of having them or being married was if you don't ever wear the ring. Her hubby has a job in which his hands get very dirty so he has two rings that he wears. One for work and another for evenings out. A girlfriend of ours has a very nice ring and for some reason she never has it on regardless of if her husband is with her or not. We both have asked her why she doesn't wear her ring, but she never really gives us a straight answer. I know that a ring isn't all there is to a marriage, but to me it is a symbol that hey I am taken and I am not out there looking nor do I really want anyone out there looking at me. Is there a reason for people not wearing their rings other than it not fitting anymore or do we just notice odd things???

I agree with your statement of the ring symbolizing the... "don't bother me, I am taken" LOL!

I used to think that a ring was a ring. It is a materialistic thing and is not important. What matters is what we feel in our hearts and what we know. However, after being without for a few weeks, I missed it terribly. I felt disconnected in a weird sense. I was always rubbing my finger trying to feel it and search for it. I called the jewelers bout every other day makin sure it was ok cause I would have nightmares......

I learned that this is NOT just a ring. This is a symbol of our marriage, a token of our unconditional love. Also, I am married and proud of it! I have an amazing husband and I want the world to know that.

GREAT BLOG!!! I often have wondered myself why some don't wear theirs at all. Hubby used to not wear his to work cause it would always get caught when he is working on cars. He said it was gonna get caught and rip his hand off one day. LMAO! However, after awhile it started to bug me and I told him I didn't like it and he wears all the time.

So if you notice odd things, then I do too....

lol i like this blog i wonder the same thing

my hubby doesnt wear one cuz his broke and we cant find another one that he likes so in time i know i will find the right one

i feel naked without my wedding ring on, i used to not be able to wear it to work because the sanitizer water made me break out underneath of it and i almost ripped it off my finger one time cleaning an oven rack that hurt ouch

i really think though if your married you need to let others now it

it is a symbol of love and faithfulness to your spouse

I would wear mine if I had one again. Since I lost my diamond haven't found anything I like yet. Henry doesn't wear his anymore, because he smashed his finger at work and had to get it cut off.

I feel it is important to wear your wedding ring. It does say...I am taken, married....not interested...

and I think those that dont wear it many times are either mad at their spouses or there are problems in the marriage ....

I do know surgeons who obviously dont wear theirs while in surgery but they keep them tied to their scrubs or on them....

My husband as a copier tech was told he might not want to wear his as it was a hazard...so there are some jobs that can be that way. Or people lose wt, gain wt and then dont get a new one.... (my hubby wore his anyway....)

I haven't worn my ring in about 3 years. It has loose stones and needs to be resized. At first I felt naked without it.
We talked about getting a new ring instead of getting the old one fixed, but I don't know that I would WANT a new one...it just would not be the same.
One of these days, we'll get it fixed.

I feel that if you have wedding rings, you should wear them unless it's for safety's sake at work. To me, people that don't wear them are looking else where or hoping someone will look at them. If yours is broken or somesuch like that, that's different. I always wear mine. I've worn out 2 bands on my engagement ring with the abrasiveness of handling mail. I'm on my third band in 16 years! The first time I had to have it remade it really bothered me. Hubby told me I could go for an upgrade look to it if I wanted to, but I always pick a band that looks exactly the same. It's the sentimentality of the thing.
Hubby told me the only time he takes his off is when he's working in an electric panel box. He said gold is highly conductive to electric. Whe he worked on building houses he even wore it when finishing cement. He would come home and have to scrape dried concrete out from underneath it.
My sister just got married in Sept. and was so worried about what type of wedding ring to get her future hubby. He won't even wear it.

Well............ I dont wear mine, I wear all my others, and the ring I wear on my ring finger is a ring Ive worn on it since I was 17 yrs old. My husband stopped wearing his after it got caught on something at work, and he said it felt like it was gonna rip his finger off. I figured you dont wear your's I dont wear mine! He was keeping it on his keyring, up until a couple of weeks ago, and I threw in out in the yard, and it hasnt been found yet..
I dont go out looking or expect guys to try hitting on me cuz Im not wearing one, I just prefer not to wear it.... its all good lol

Ok...guess i'll be the first man to answer kats. I haven't wore my wedding ring in at least 15 years....and now it doesn't fit. Shoeing horses any ring is a hazzard. I'm not looking either....its about safety. A ring is but a symbol. My amish friends in their society neither the husband or wife wear rings. I also never wear a watch or any other jewelery either....just my preference. And my wife is cool with it , that i don't wear the ring.

I too have wondered why some don't wear their rings if they are married. I always have mine on unless I am putting lotion on my hands. Hubby always wears his, even when working out. He has bent the crap out of it. I told him that I will buy him a nice one for when we go out and he can use the other one that is all bent up for working out and wearing it while at work.

But your statement of it being a symbol is so true. However I think that when someone sees a ring on that finger, they may work a tad harder to get your attention even if you are married. I have noticed that before....

Good blog.

Drew and I both wear our rings all the time! I have to say that my original set is too tight for my finger these days, but I do have another set that I wear. The only time I don't wear it is when I'm boxing! wouldn't want to lose a diamond hitting that bag!! LOL

Nice blog Katie!

Peace, Jana

My name is Katie and I have 3 amazing kids who keep me very busy! I enjoy going to the Lake of the Ozarks, swimming, taking my kids to the park and whatever else I can find for us to do, going to Cardinals and Blues games, I love to be outside during the summer, but during the winter you will find me hiding inside somewhere. The cold and I don't get along. In whatever free time I can find I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping and I love to go dancing.
