This year the exterior of my home is just swarming with spiders, it is horrible, so I figured I would try to do something about it.

My nephew and I spent 6 hours power washing the entire house.

Power washer: 6 hours x 8.5 amps x 120 volts= 6120 watts of electricity consumed

Water: 2.5 gallons per minutes x 60 minutes per hour x 6 hours = 900 gallons of water used

4 hours later, ALL of the spiders returned!

OR

Should I have just gone ahead and used a single gallon of pesticide and been done with it?

Which should I have done?

Or , you could have used a quart of fog juice , with a fogger , killed them all , then did a quick power wash [ one hour ] to get rid of the webs and crap .
They also make great lawn products [ especialy if you have pets ] that will kill just about everything , fleas , ticks , spiders ect. that work for a month with one application .

This you need to be careful if you have pets but right at the base of your houses foundation you dig down with your fingers or a small tool to make a shallow trench. Then pour in a small line of Diazanon powder into the trench all the way around the house, right flush to the foundation. Then cover it over with dirt. After a fairly short period of time you won't have any bugs. Ants, spiders, anything. Diazanon is nasty but if you are careful and just make a small (long) line of it and cover it over pets and so on shouldn't dig. Mr. Green Jeans might argue but if you are buried in spiders be green later when your eight-legged squatters find your house not so appealing.
