Hey there----

Today the Lions released running back Kevin Jones and defensive end Kalimba Edwards....... Edwards I can understand, he was underachieving, for a guy who came in the 2nd round of the draft.......... but Jones was supposed to be a big part of the Lions attack!!!!  Ok, Jones was hurt....... Ok, Jones had a big salary number--- but a release??!?!  Wow!!!  I know that Detroit re-signed Tatum Bell, but what does the Jones release do to the 2008 squad????  One thing the moves do is cement the belief that G.M. Matt Millen can't hack it in the draft........ who do the Lions have left on the squad from past drafts??? Shaun Rogers??? gone!!!  Joey Harrington, Edwards, and  Andre Goodman from 2002??...... gone!!!! Charles Rogers, Boss Bailey, Artose Pinner, Terrence Holt, James Davis, David Kircus from 2003's draft????  All gone!!!! Now K.J., and Teddy Lehman from '04.... plus Mike Williams the Top pick from 2005..... all of these players are now gone!!!!  So for those who ask what's happened to Detroit---- there's your answer!!!!  The question now, is---  what's the future hold?????  Will this now be a running team?????  Obviously there's not much pass talk now that Mike Martz is gone....... what do you guys think about all of this?????? Can anyone make sense of this situation-- because I'm having trouble!!!!  Help!!!!

---Woody

I wish I could help you, but I can not believe that they would just cut a talented player like Jones without getting anything for him. Now, I do not know the ins and outs of salary cap and free agency ect. ect. but this just does not make any sense. This just reassured my decision to get rid of my season tickets a year ago after having them for over 10 years. I do not see any light at the end tunnel for this organization to put a winner team together for years to come. I have always been a Lions fan, never a band wagoner, but as years go by it gets more and more frustrating. By the way, do you know if there is an exchange program for jerseys? None of my player jerseys are here anymore!
Thanks- You guys do a great job

Hey Woody...

I agree with everything you said totally. When I heard we released Kevin Jones my jaw dropped!! I mean he's obviously injury prone but when the guy is healthy he is good. For example, look at the baltimore game a couple of seasons ago. He ran Ray Lewis over for a touchdown in the redzone. And to just let a guy like that go with no trade no nothing just doesn't make all that much sense to me!! Another thing is the Lions always seem to let players go and they come back and dominate us... Whats up with that?!?! Detroit also did't re-sign Duckett. I mean come on he would come in and pound out 20 - 30 yard runs last year for us!! Why not re-sign him, if we knew we were letting Jones go?? I mean seriously I just don't understand these moves. Yet, we re-sign Bell to a one year deal who didnt play but only 5 games last season?? I was looking forward to the hard-nosed pounding from K.J. and the breakout burst that Bell's capable of producing!! Now that's gone... One thing I do know is if Marinelli and the boys can straighten out both the offensive and defensive lines this team could be a fierce force. But with all these roster moves I just hope they can develop some consistency. We have playmakers at wide receiver we had 3 good running backs now we're down to just one... Our We only brought one OL in and signed so far. Marinelli has his boy from tampa who just signed at the DT Chuck Darby but with Rogers not there how will they play?? Just having him out there drew a double team almost everytime now that's gone!! I don't know theres still a lot of offseason left... T

Imagine Millen in grade school negotiating his lunch trade with a fellow student.

I'll give you my Twinkies and Ho's Hos' in exchange for your empty brown paper bag, deal?

Or being first in the lunch line in the cafeteria with the entire menu of choices in front of him and he chooses the cream corn over the sloppy joes.

This guy just doesn't have any horse sense to make trades or good drafts. It's one thing to have killer instincts on the football field and tackle everything that moves, but another thing to have the same killer mentality on the business field. In that arena -- he should have been cut years ago for missing too many tackles.

Pardon the mixed metaphors -- but YEESH -- how much longer do fans have to endure this thick necked moron.

I have given up on the Lions, when I think the team has reached it lowest point it goes lower. The recent move by Millien and Marinelli only underscores the source of my conerns. Millien dosen't have a mirror at home because if he did he would not be able to look into it.

We live in an era of "rental players", and it drives many fans like me crazy.

When professional sports teams began to view themselves as a business, one leg of the three-legged stool collapsed.

Leg # 1 = Management. Leg # 2 = The Players. Leg # 3 = The fans.

Guess which leg collapsed making the metaphor a "loose stool".

The problem with the Detroit Lions are Millen, Millen, he dosen't have a clue on how to run a football team, yet he stills keeps his job. The recent release, of some players and the trading of others show just how out of touch Millen is. This ship will not sail as long as an incompetent skipper is at the helm. We can only hope that one day the Ford's will wake up and fire the man who is responsible for this dismall football team in recent years.

I came to Fox 2 in 1998 after spending time in the Sunshine State. My career began while I was at the University of Miami and I tried out for 3rd base on the Miami Hurricanes baseball team as a "walk on"!!! I was the last guy cut that season and I decided then that if I couldn't make the team I was going to stay close to the program.... so in addition to being the program director at the campus radio station-- WVUM, I also helped start up the campus cable television network... and that led to a job as a Cameraman shooting sports for local station WCIX. I caught a break when I was offered a chance to go "on air"..... That chance allowed me to secure the weekend spot at WFOR in Miami, Florida and then I made the jump to Motown. This city is one of the best sports towns in the nation and I'm pleased as punch to be a part of the magic. I think that the Sports Staff at Fox 2 is the best, and we always strive for excellence. There's no phony baloney, sing along jingles or "video arcades" here-- just straight sports presented in a truly creative way..... That's how I like it, and if you feel that way too, then I'll see you at 5, 6, and 10 for our daily broadcasts-- and Sportsworks Sunday Night, right here on FOX 2!!
