You know the dance! You've most likely wiggled your butt, moved your hands in the form of a quacking duck and shimmied across the floor at weddings.

The man who inspired the song and that dance craze passed away.

Bob Kames ran a very successful Hammond organ business in Milwaukee for many years, and he dabbled in songwriting as well.

The dance was recorded in 1982 and became famous and earned him a gold record.

We discussed this on during Fox 2 News in the morning as to whether you know it as the Duck Dance or Chicken Dance. I grew up in Florissant and always knew it as the Duck dance (the song even had quacking noises in the song) but a handful of years back I heard people start calling it the chicken dance

This prompted the question this morning whether you call it the Duck or Chicken dance and if it depends on where you grew up as to what you know it as?

Original name for it is the Chicken Dance.... How it got the name Duck Dance is beyond me..... It is usuall a must play when I do a wedding..... Once in a while I encounter a bride that just refuses to have it played at her wedding.....
The only thing that I am thiking when I encounter thesebrides is......

"Her Poor Husband"

I belonged to a singles group in Franklin Cty. back in '88 thru '90 and we ALL called it the Duck Dance. During the dance every body moved their hands like quacking ducks and said "quack quack-quack quack."

I have a feeling someone made a new version of the song with quacking noises to make it the Duck Dance. It definitely should not have quacking noises if it is the chicken dance. I know in Germany they know it as the duck dance so maybe it is specific to the area of the country or origin of your relatives? We have a strong German background!

Really, I use Chicken and Duck interchangably. lol
It's one of the very few dances that I will actually do, along with the Hokey Pokey..LOL

Well, the group I ran with was mainly out of Washington, and they are German oriented, so I guess that's it. I'm German, but had never heard of it till I joined that group.

As a German imigrant growing up in STL and my parents networking with German, Polish, Greek and other European immigrants going to parties and functions (lots of polka) I have always known it as the chicken dance.

I had never heard of it at all until I moved to Missouri. Living in Columbia at the time, it was always called the Duck Dance there and was played at every wedding I went to.

I didn't hear it called the chicken dance until I moved to STL ... seems silly, since it looks SO much more like a duck than a chicken and you "QUACK" during the dance.

We just had dollar dances in Cally ...

... and oh yeah ... this is one of those songs that will get stuck in my head for days ... THANKS MONICA!

Duck dance. But after several beers you dont' really know if your ducking or not, guess it just depends if somebody is stepping on your hands.

Back home it was always called the chicken dance. didn't even think about how the quacking doesn't really fit in with that name, ha. So maybe I should start clucking instead?

I don't wanna be a chicken, I don't wanna be a duck, I wanna shake my butt! Cluck Cluck Cluck Cluck!!!

Well it seems split so I guess we still don't know how it switched from the original chicken dance that the creator started..to a duck dance? Either way it is so much fun at wineries! LOL Chelsea..I loved your last line..that made me laugh and even sing it loudly! Ha

Wacky...we miss you in boxing class too!

Aside from my work at Fox 2, I am also the host of The Health & Fitness show on KMOX Sundays from 1-3pm. I have been the Head Fitness Trainer at Riverchase of Fenton for almost 9 years. I also write a health article for Streetscape Magazine in St. Charles. As for my personal hobbies, some of my greatest passions in life all relate to music. I have been singing and dancing since I was 3. I have also been an athlete since I was a kid, excelling in the sports of soccer, softball and basketball. I am extremely close to my family and miss my father daily. We lost him September 12th 1995. He and my mom would dance and you would think it was poetry in motion. My mother is one of my dearest friends, I have two brothers and a sister, all of whom are older. I am blessed to have many friends and acquaintances. I also love animals and have a beautiful dog named Kyra, who just turned 8 in September. I also adopted Kailei from the Humane Society of Monroe County in May of 2007, she is an amazing puppy. She is being trained by Casey and Shelly Ray with Team Dog St. Louis. I swear they are just like Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer. They even have their own little pack :-). Give me my family, friends, a great man that I fall in love with, pets, music, sports, a nice restaurant, a good martini and a sharp sports car and I could live forever! :-) LOL. Thanks for reading.
