Final score: Passion-1 and John McCain-zero.

You could feel it. The democrats had passion and showed up at the polls in huge numbers to prove it, and while the McCain supporters liked their guy, they did not have the "P" word and sort of BLEEP-hummed him into the loss column.

The hand writing for this was on the wall. All you had to do was look at the crowds each candidate attracted. Obama with his rock star persona waltzed onto the stage in one venue after another and the crowd went nuts. McCain took the podium and got applause but the contrast was striking. It wasn't until the hockey mom showed up that the noise and excitement meter went up a couple of notches only to falter after most voters figured out she was not ready for prime time.

Of course the McCain loss went deeper than passion. It looks like he had the whole deck stacked against him: George B. Bush, a rotten economy, the Wall Street crash, his economic blueprint looked tattered and worn, and of course he was up against the agent of change, Barack Obama.

As Republicans wake up to a splitting political headache, they now have a chance to open a much needed discussion on where this state and national party is headed. Obviously the old playbook of tax cuts, wedge issues such as gay marriage, and fiscal responsibility are not making it. In fact the GOP brand on balancing the budget was destroyed by the soon to be ex-prez "W" who hands over to Mr.Obama a staggering sea of red ink.

Meanwhile having successfully navigated a grueling campaign, the president-elect now confronts and even greater challenge: Governing.

Rubbing salt into the wounds isn't the answer Tim; I can agree with the latter part of this post but remember that in order to begin this Change, all must work together for a better America. I don't agree with all of his plans and still stand by my vote because Michigan is proof of abused power & neglected voters & I can only hope that President-elect Obama isn't the typical Democrat. We shall see.

This a typical liberal post Tim .
I hope that you get taxed to death with the rest of us trying to survive in this " Democratic " economy .
Start teaching your children [ if you have any ] , to practice the " SIEG HIEL " instead of the national anthem .

Change change. He's already balking at promises. But, of course this was also gonna be a "different" campaign. It wasn't. So now we get to blame EVERYTHING on him. I will pretend to be a dumaRat and He will be a republican. You know, a little BLEEP for tat.

Nasty, nasty people out there. It always amazes me that peoples hearts are so cold. A question: would all of you who make snide remarks do so across the table from Tim? Or are you only content to spit venom while you hide behind screen names?

Here's my question to you Tim, With the Democratic theory of governing, why is Michigan in the shape it is in? Meaning in about after a year Jenny took over the State went down hill? Can't use the Bush Card. Another question, with the way Detroit has been ran in almost 40 years, why is Detroit the way it is?

I have to agree with bye-byeMI! For the first four years of Granholms administration she blamed all the problems on Engler. Then she said she was going to blow us away, and she did by raising our taxes, and running companys like Comerica out of town because of her taxes. Now I will be waiting for Obama to blame the Bush Administration for his shortcomings and then when he does raise ALL of our taxes he will blame it on the Bush bailout that they all voted for. Let's be honest Tim, politicians will NEVER change and they will always screw over the middleclass.

BRUNOCOCO, YES, we would face Tim Skubick face to face and tell him that we're in one H*LL of a stinking pickle with this newly elected person. And when you're up to your aZZ in a soup line being handed bread sandwiches by NOBAMA's MULISM AID RELIEF workers, think about your remarks.

The P word? It was the M (money) word. If McCain had agreed to stay within the guidelines of campaign spending and didn't, there would be riots still going on. Campaign reform should be a reality. But of course telling the truth is not a political requirement. Jenny has done such a wonderful job in Michigan hasn't she, NOT. Whoops she's a dem. Handing over the sea of red ink? Is that a pre-excuse? Are we forgetting who controls the senate, and now has a bigger piece of the pie. No, no, not that easy. ALL you dems have blamed EVERYTHING bad in this country on Bush. Obama gets the baton with the good AND the bad and the blame. That folks IS the job.

The Republican party needs to continue having people like John McCain represent them. And, if Obama is not impeached or he does not quit, in four years the people that needed to learn a lesson will. Next election many more people will pay attention to the issues and platforms of the candidates. If they had this time, Obama would never have been elected. This was the time for this to happen. A lot of good things will come from this election. It will be wonderful if Obama contributes anything at all but the truly good stuff will come from him being who he is, doing or trying to do what his platform said he would do, and exposing himself to the American people. I have faith in people and it's kind of like that saying, "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me."

The American people are gullible, naive and like to see the good in others. Because of this, they ignored all the signs from Obama and gave him qualities he just does not possess. Some voted out of euphoria, some because they bought into his rhetoric and did not listen to his actual words, some because they wanted to see history made, and many out of the need to see a black person succeed, and, of course, there were some that voted strictly because they are Democrats. The problem was, a majority of his supporters could not tell you one thing about his plans.
Even now, after the election, they can not.

November 4, 2008, history was made:
USA elects first black president.
Then history was made again.
First time in history an elected President took the stage by himself, without his wife, to bask in his glory alone.
And again.
Dow dropped more than ever before the day after an election.
In two days, Obama made history three times.
One out of three times, it was positive for someone besides himself.
Having a black person elected as president is a healing event for our country. We finally have put our past to rest and can stop paying a debt of guilt to the black community for something we had no part in ourselves. This is a wonderful thing.
But, then, watching a man disrespect his wife and take the stage alone in all his glory and then proceed to talk about the struggles of women, a historical moment we could do without.
And, to have policies that, for the people who actually read and understood them, sent our business community and investors running for the hills will not be a good moment in history.
