Rightly or wrongly, one of the knocks against the sitting governor Is that she would rather sing Cumbaya than wade into a controversy.  Her recent actions visa vie a certain Mayor of Detroit are counter to that notion, however.

Gov. Jennifer Granholm has not decided to oust the embattled Kwame Kilpatrick, but she is making noises that she may at least consider it.

When the Detroit City Council petitioned the governor earlier to remove his honor, the strategy in the front office was to move judiciously and stay at the back of the parade and not at the front.

The governor got outside advice to treat her role as a last resort.  In other words, let the courts, city council and the local prosecutor do their thing, before the governor did hers.

To avoid any criticism she was dragging her feet, the governor adopted a procedure for interested parties to file legal arguments with her on the charges against the mayor, but than came a letter on July 28.

The governor has concluded that it is in the public interest to accelerate the briefing schedule in this matter…

Accelerate? What changed?

Reports surfaced on Thursday, July 24 that the mayor was involved in an alleged shoving and shouting match with two officers of the court.

At first the governors office was not quite sure what transpired, but then the Wayne County Sheriff expressed his concerns and the two officers testified in open court on what they saw.  As a former federal prosecutor, the governor took notice.

Even though the mayors barristers played down the alleged incident, the governor moved her foot carefully toward the accelerator.

That same weekend the two major Detroit newspapers upped the ante by publishing some scathing editorials calling on Mr. Mayor to get out of Dodge for the umpteenth time.

Its a good guess that over the weekend, the governor contemplated the ins and outs of moving up the schedule including reserving the right to hold a hearing on the issue on September 3.

She was careful to indicate the hearing on the mayors future would be conducted only if it was warranted based upon  the material everyone presented to her.

However all this may be moot. It is anticipated that the Mayors legal team will file a flurry of motions, court actions and who knows what all to forestall her role.

If the mayor wins, the governor will be off the hook for the time being making it a win-win for her.  She can say she was doing her part to end the nightmare in Motown, but the courts told her to stop.  There would be no crying in her office if that happened.

But if the courts give her a green light, what will she do then? Her critics will be waiting for the blond lady to sing, but don't be surprised if she doesn't.

I am so sick and tired of this mess. To me know one will stand up and do what is right. Everyone is scared because they know they have theirs hands in the cook jar.
What is wrong with our society, we are accepting bad behavior. I have watch over the last pass 8 years my neighborhoods lose its value. I do not get the city services that I am entitle to. Yet, I still painful pay my property taxes. Yet we are spending thousands and thousands of dollars to watch the Mayor personal soap opera play out in the media.

If some elected official were not so crooked then they would stand up fight for the people and the city they so claimed to love. They are so scared that theirs laundry will be aired if they do what is right. Some of ours elected official has forgot that they work for the people and it is not the other way around. We put these people in office to serve us, yet each day that KK stay in office we are suffering. The city is divided KK wants to play the victim and the race card.

Wake me up when the nightmare it is over...

I am a life long Democrat, and I vote.I am not a fan of Gov. Granholm.I voted for her,but she needs to step up BIG TIME.Her waffling is not doing our state any favors, and it is a shame (almost criminal in fact)that she is worried about her own backside instead of doing some serious decision making.Kwame should have been removed before he could do the damage he has done to Detroit. Thanks Jenny for your in decision.Don't do us any more of these favors ,PLEASE.

Gov. Granholm will probably go down as one of the worse Governor's in State history in my opinion.

When she's not in hiding, she's on her soapbox bragging about a few hundred jobs that she brought into Michigan.

The truth of the matter, you'll never know how many jobs that she failed to bring into Michigan. Even with all the tax breaks and incentives that she can offer, I'm sure the bad out weights the good that she has done and dragging her feet has made it worse.

With K.K. on his "above the law" attitude its no wonder large companies don't want to build and invest in the City or State with the gruesome twosome in charge. Would you want to come into a city that has some form of corruption in each department and a Governor that hides in the shadows.

I really think the K.K. should had been arrested on the spot just as any normal person would had been. It's time to stop rubbing this guys belly, and end this crap.

I think Ms. Worthy should ignore the fact that the guy had an affair and lied about it under oath. Anyone caught in that situation would lie about it. Focus on what really matters!

What matters is that they lied under oath about having knowledge or input to the whistle blower case that cost the city tax payers I believe 8 million dollars.

Just one last thing. I'm tired of the residents that live in Detroit that believe in, "if you don't live in the city you should keep your opinions to yourself". For all of you that believe that, will you please help me pay my water rate increase that I'm getting because your City is trying to recover the money t

MR.SKUDBUCKET HOW DARE YOU TO MAKE SUCH AN IGNORANT STATEMENT ABOUT THE GOVENOR MIGHT AS WELL SING CUMBAYA. YOUR MAKING A MOCKERY ABOUT THE SONG THAT MANY AFRICAN AMERICANS ANCESTORS SANG WHILE IN THE FIELDS & MANY DIED SO PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF CAN GET AN EDUCATION AND MOVE RIGHT NEXT 2 YOU. APPARENTLY IT SHOWS THAT YOU LIKE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITES. SO PLEASE DON'T TELL ANYONE YOUR NOT RACIST BECAUSE THAT WILL BE A BOLD FACE LIE. THAT SONG IS VERY PRECIOUS TO AFRICAN AMERICANS. SO IF YOUR IGNORANT STATEMENTS NEED TO WRITTEN THEN WRITE THEM IN COMFORTS OF YOUR HOME.
AS FOR MR.KILPATRICK GOD HAS THE FINAL SAY SO AND "THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN" IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT QUOTE IT IS FROM THE LORD'S PRAYER. WHAAT GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO JUDGE SOMEONE ELSE? IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE THEN DON'T SAY NOTHING AT ALL. JUSTICE WILL PREVAIL.

And you don't think the Govenor's hands are tied by the democratic party? She is taking orders from someone, don't you think? We are always looking to blame someone, but there is only one person to blame...K.K. He is the newer generation that thinks they are above everything. Do, say and act whatever way they want, and blame everyone else when they get caught. Take responsibility for your actions K.K. "I'm sorry" doesn't work anymore. Like my grandma said, "If you were sorry, you would have never done it." In other words...THINK BEFORE YOU ACT OR OPEN YOUR MOUTH.

How can "any" man that clains to love the city of Detroit continue with actions that will totally distroy the cities image and future? How can our Governor not come out and DEMAND he resign? And do it now. Regardless of any guilt the Mator is hurting the city as well as the state. The entire world is watching this mess. Can any man really be this selfish and have so little respect for the law as well as what the people of Michigan are asking for? Every day seems to bring something new with him and none of it is good for our city, state or residents. Can we really just stand by and watch him continue to lie, steel and commit any crime he feels he wants too? Had he resigned back in Jan. of this year that probably would have been the end of it and no one would have cared if more charges were ever brought againt him. He would now be just one more criminal on the streets of Detroit.

As for the one who said 'anyone NOT living in Detroit keep quiet', i say this does not just affect people in Detroit but it affects everyone in the state of Michigan, Detroit AND Michigan now are looked down on because of KK and all the ones who don't do anything about a criminal who is walking the streets of Detroit saying he's 'taking City of Detroit forward' acting as if nothing has happened. Now the Democratic Convention doesn't even want KK there because of his criminal actions. This is all insane.

The mayor is nothing more than a street gangster in an expensive suit. Al Capone was the same type of person. Gangsters should not be made into heroes by the public nor should they be emulated and become role models. Our youth should have better examples of public figures than Kwame Kilpatrick!

This is a test of power between the mayor and the governor. He is much bigger than her with bodyguards and a mother in congress. This will be a tough one, but the law is the law and both are lawyers.

DG37, The comment about Cumbaya was not racist in any way. I am black and the reason that I know that is because I read and understood what I was reading. Your comprehension skills need some work. Everything is not about race, there are many other things to be concerned about and this case has nothing to do with color. It's just embarrassing to me that every time someone says something, some of the people in my race, attribute it to being racist. I am proud to be black but I am much more than that. If the depth inside you begins and ends with your color, then I feel sorry for you. And for the person that put the Obama's in this, I disagree with you totally. Race has become such an issue with Obama because for some reason he constantly has to justify and explain his color. I have never seen a presidential race that was ever so focused on race. There have never been so many questions asked and suspicions revealed. Sorry, maybe we should have asked more questions about the president that we have now, this could have saved a lot of lives. Some people really need to sit back and think about the "real" reason that they are against him. But this blog is supposed to be about the idiot mayor of Detroit, so let's just stick with that. I agree with whoever said, wake me up when it's over or better yet, when he's gone.
