MICHAEL PETER FAY

    Remember him?    He was the American boy that was found guilty of vandalism to vehicles while living in Singapore.    (We've been to Singapore while in the military, and the city itself is immaculately clean, but notorious noted for not allowing crappola to go on).     With justice, there is caning.     Michael Fay was a snotty 18 year old kid who found his justice by the sting of a bamboo rod.   

In this scenario, Fay and 8 of his co-horts that were arrested for vandalism caused international uproar about the crimes commited and the punishment for it.    Whatever the punishment handed down, it became a philosophical argument about how we in the U.S. handle teens and how teens are handled overseas.

Here is how it was performed.

In the caning room he was stripped naked.    .   He bent over and his arms and legs were fastened to an H-shaped trestle by straps.    .   A protective covering was placed over his kidneys.    .    A prison official, a medical officer and the caner were the only ones present.    .     The caner wound up and, using his full body weight, struck with the 13mm-thick rattan rod, which had been soaked overnight to prevent it from splitting.     .      Each stroke on Fay's exposed buttocks came about half a minute apart.     .     It was over in minutes.      .      After the fourth and final stroke, say Singapore officials, Fay shook hands with his caner and insisted on walking back to his cell unaided.      .     He wanted to act like a man.

The words of his mother was:    .        "What this has taught me about my country," said Mrs. Chan, "is how we take everything for granted.      .       We have problems, but we have our freedoms.   .     She went on to say:

(quote) "This is tortue.   .  This will never be forgotten.    .       My son did nothing more serious than keep stolen property?

Nothing more serious than keep stolen propery??      

"Hello you doorknob."     Stolen Property?    It's a crime to steal, and a crime to knowingly keep stolen property, or has that part of the law escaped you?       .     Perhaps we should allow caning in this country to prevent the rampart uncontrollable teens that seem to be tearing up this country.  

WHAT DO YOU THINK?    BAMBOO CANE, OR SUGAR CANE?

well some of those country's do have a way to keep thing's in order that does not kill anyone.If you get caught stealing or holding something stolen then maybe we should try that here,just maybe the children that are under age like the 4 9yr olds that planed on killing their teacher because she scolded them would stop and think?well just maybe.I know we would not cane a nine year old but if we did to 16 yrs and up maybe these kid's would think that if they did something illeagle they could be caned,and would not do something stupid

NO, you cannot, nor would you want to cane a young child. But that doesn't mean you can't take an unruly child, pull them over your knee, and whach their a$$'es when they have a temper tantrum.

When our son decided to show "us" his way, he would thrown himself on the ground, kick his arms and legs, and scream. So one day when he was having his tantrum, we got down, grabbed ahold of his feet, and tapped them on the ground to imitate him kicking his feet and we screamed so loud he almost died from the fear and noise. He never did it again, until one day in a grocery store. At that point, he was picked up, cracked on the a$$, and put firmly into the cart. The people around us may not have loved it, but we did. Today, he is a good model citizen with his own family and kids that "HE" can deal with. Don't be afraid to attack, whack, and smack a child's a$$ because your SHRINK may call you cruel..

Sheez, what idiot parents we have nowdays.

sorry I was not saying to cane a child but if they saw older children getting cane than maybe they would stop and think and whacking their back side at that age I agree when my son at the age of 5 throw his tantrum in the store I pulled him up and asked you have two choices to stop or get the back side warmed because that is NOT acceptable behavior needless to say he stopped.

A child at the age of 16 should know better and at that age sa far as I'm concerned you could start with caning you do not have to do 24 wacks but about 3 or 4 most likely do the trickto make the older child to think,but I really do not think you would have to because most parents I hope like me have tried to teach right from wrong you do wrong you get punished some kind of punishment.If you kill someone you are going to JAIL that's the law but I also know that there are a lot of parents out there who say not my child they could not have done that!!that's why we have the society that we do have.

Cat, in most cases, it should be the idiotic parents for their refusal to get off their dead a$$e$ and take control. But with the proper treatment, children have that ability to learn right from wrong. If they do right, nothing but praise. Talk to them as a parent to a child, not as a friend to friend or buddy to buddy scenario. But if they do bad, then they need support from those parents, but make the do the time for the crime. It's the only way they'll learn. But if you're going to tell a child that you're going to spank them for their misbehavior and then back out of it, that child will come to learn that it's just another threat and will never be carried out.

Couldn't agree more Midevil- The worst punishment I got from my parents was their disapproval and their disappointment. This alone kept me from doing idiotic, immoral and illegal activities.

But it's not PC!!...Illegals could be put out of work by useing jail inmates on a State and National Scale.Money saved on room and board,farmers,tax payers happy. Can't happen because the jails are full of negros and al,and jesse, louis,aclu have already spoke out about it, it's the new slavery.Not PC.Spank your kid,go to jail.Not PC. Old guy can't smoke a stogie on his porch because neighbor don't like it, old guy get's ticket/court date. Not PC.
