Did you get to see my story on Friday about the Sales Tax Referndum facing voters in Milwaukee County of Tuesday?  You should, it's very intersting, just search "sales tax" and you can watch it on our website.

It calls for a 1% sales tax increase... saying that money will go to transit, parks and emergency management services, PLUS provide property property tax relief.  Well, County Executive Scott Walker says when the sales tax was increased back in 1991, it was also said that it would provide tax relief for property owners.  However, he showed charts that illustrated property taxes GOING UP every year since.  From 1992 to 2007, he says they've gone up 71%!!  So he's encouraging people to vote 'no' saying you just shouldn't trust that your property taxes will go down as a result of increasing the sales tax.

However, several county Supervisors spoke out, about how bad of shape those agencies are in, one even called it a "life and death situation"-- referring to the EMS budget.  They say the sales tax increase would result in a property tax savings of  about $150 a year, on a $150,000 home.

Watch my story so you can decide for yourself!

What do you think she is going to say? She is probably another soccer mom that's in favor of government sticking their noses where they don't belong.

Umm, it doesn't say it WILL provide tax relief, but that they have the authority to give tax relief, so that isn't a promise of tax relief. According to the wording of that ref. if it passes, not only will they raise the sales tax, but they really don't have to provide any tax relief at all. I voted today and I read it three times before I said NO!

The referendum merely asks if the State should give the County the "authority" to provide property tax relief by levying a 1% sales tax. Nothing in the referendum says that they "must" provide property tax relief.

Why, oh why would any business be in, or move to Milwaukee.........and why, oh why, would I buy anything in Milwaukee County when I can buy it for a lower sales tax rate elsewhere?

If you are buying anything substantial.......it becomes more than a few cents........

It's a good thing that there are LOTS of other places to shop other than Milwaukee County. And I'm sure this will be an incentive for more businesses to leave. This coupled with the 14% school tax increase for property owners. Wow, tax hell position #1 here we come.

I am not sure if that one passed because I can honestly say I made it an entire day of not watching or listening to ANY news coverage, but I am just glad that Racine is close by.

In Wisconsin, we pay sales tax on internet purchases, and now we have to pay tax on the shipping. Yes, this is a wonderful state.
