I was going to title this post "Will race matter?" but changed my mind because I already know the answer to that, the real question is how much.  People who say America isn't ready for a black president... well we're never ready until we're ready.  America wasn't ready for a black baseball player, but we were ready for Jackie Robinson.

While I think the majority of America will not consider race when they cast their ballot, I can't help but wonder about how many people will.  I, unfortunately, grew up in a town in Southeastern Ohio where the 'n' word was not common, but not that rare.  I hate to admit, I have relatives who still use it today.  There is no diversity there, only white people.  Perhaps that makes me overly sensitive to the issue... others who were raised in a more diverse, tolerant climate may be less pessimistic, and rightly so.

So here's the question- how big of a role will race be and will it be a decisive factor?

Obama is constantly being referred to as "black' or "African American". He is black, white and Moslem". And I understand he is more Moslem than black.

Race is not the issue to most. Most of his negitives are refering to who he is associated with, and statement made by them, and by Obama, in his book.

Considering we know nothing of him and he block any probing it's hard for anyone to know anything about him if they don't use these resources.

I think sexist plays a far bigger part.

There has been more coverage of slams, on Palin then the other three combined.

The funny thing is lot's of it comes from women lib. groups. Go figure?

Wouldn't Todd and Sarah relationship be the Poster child.

Guess, Right to choose only works one way?

Bernhard said her "big black brothers" would gang rape Sarah Palin. Since then, what's happened to Sandra? Has the media torn her a new one the way it would have if she were a white male comic attacking Obama?

What race is "Muslem"?
Never heard of it.

I hope race doesn't play a factor in the election because if it does, then nobody needs to drop a vote in.

That's not to say you can't vote, or you don't have a right to because everyone has right and a choice to vote, vote absentee or don't vote at all, but if you're voting because of a man's race or religion, you're not using your brain correctly

I've heard this question over and over again: "Will race be a factor?" or Most recently, "Is America ready for a black president" - as those who say. I can remember reading a couple of years ago that 1/2 of Milwaukee wasn't ready for Marvin Pratt, because he's black, plus he's was running for mayor. Or like Bill Maher once said that half of Pennslyvania wasn't ready for a black quarterback. But they were.

But all that aside, I think America has been ready. Although "the work" of our differences need to have improvement. And why is everyone keep saying that Sen. Barack Hussein Obama is a Muslim? All because of his name? That's garbage to me.

Read this short news story from the Newsweek website, and from his Fight The Smears site:

“Barack Obama has never been Muslim and never practiced Islam. But rumors about his religion intended to frighten some voters persist, and they mostly return to one point of fact: his name. “Barack” is the candidate’s Kenyan father’s name; Obama’s middle name, “Hussein,” is his grandfather’s name. Obama has described his father as atheist or agnostic. His Kansan mom, whose grandparents were devout Protestants, lived a secular life. Obama’s only personal contact with Islam came as a boy when he moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, with a stepfather who mixed his Islam with Hindu and Animist traditions. In five years there, Obama attended a Roman Catholic school, then a public elementary school, where he sat through a class each week of religious studies. As an adult, Obama turned to Christianity in the late ’80s in Chicago, at Trinity United Churc

(cutoff) Trinity United Church of Christ, where he was baptized, married‹and baptized his kids. As a new U.S. senator, Obama took his oath on the family Bible.”

Excellent, Stephen, thank you for some truth.
Now if only people would listen.
Race has nothing to do with a person's intelligence or ability to lead.
For the love of Pete, this is 2008!
Can we get past this ignorance once and for all????

Rasguy...why does what an idiotic comedian's opinion have to do with this campaign?
Sarah Bernhardt is known for her disgusting humor. Amazing how we don't see much of her anymore.
Look at the facts.

ok, what about age discrimination. your all guilty.

What about lipstick on a pig, by itself a turn of phrase, followed by the words and an old fish,

Now it's sexist, insulting of the US Navy, and age discrimination.

Go take your double stanard, hypocritical, bull some where else, we are not buying.

Liberals can't scream nothing anymore.

You turned your back on your own principals, lost all Credibility!

Pardon me?
Could you retype that so it makes sense?
My all guilty what?
Didn't McCain and Palin say lipstick on a pig first?
BTW...since liberals can't scream nothing anymore, what would you like them to scream?
Also....pssssstttt.....McCain IS old.
That isn't an insult, it's true.
We are all forced into retirement at 65.
Why are the people we trust to run our government allowed to get senile and have such power???
We can't drive a forklift, but they can run a country???

Kat I haven't heard from you on Obama's political ideology it's a relevant question, you all seem to ignore.

If Obama can't say, and his fans can't say, Well! then don't cry when we look at his past cause that's how you find out political Ideology without a voting record.

I am not an Obama supporter.
I support Ron Paul.
I just don't like McCain/Palin more.
Also, it isn't that I don't like Obama. He's a likeable guy. I just don't want to see higher taxes and more war. I want better healthcare coverage at an affordable price. I want fairness for all Americans.

I can respect Ron Paul he doesn't hide. You can get a good feel of his Ideology. And there for you can make a informed decision.

How ever all Obama offers, A hate filled book, Empty promise that have changed drastically from the start. a few votes nothing much to work with.
Now Acorn, a major part of Obama's Community service is major fraud. That reflects on Obama, he trained them.

And his Community service which no one want to talk about because it's not good.
people don't hide good things. Only bad things.

The biggest difference in the stump speech is Obama want closed door hidden government and McCain want you to be able to see what's going on.

I'm tried of secrets, I want to be informed. That what Our Founding Fathers wanted.
