Well, if Fred Thompson ran I would vote for him. Yes, Clinton's in general are not pro-military, being in the Army for almost twenty years I would know. Deployed to where is wrong? I've deployed under both Clinton and Bush. You have to remember when Clinton cut the military by 35% in the mid-90's it hurt the military. When we got attacked in 01, we had to hit them and hit hard. We didn't have the equipment to last for more than a year or so. We are getting it now, but you can't build and issue equipment over night, which by the way 99% of the people don't understand, Clinton butchard our military.
My opinion, I think for us to be in Iraq is the right choice. I'm a firm believer to bring the fight to them. I ask you this, when the WTC got bombed in '93 did Clinton do anything? When the Embassy's got bombed in 98, did we do anything wirth a damn? When the Cole got hit, did we do anything? The answers to those question are-NO. But back to your question, if Fred doesn't run, I'll have to see further down the road. It's way to early to pick. But knowing what I know about Hillary, there's no way in Hell I'll vote for her, nor John Edwards.

Wolak, you DO have a point. Clinton did nothing when those events that you spoke of happened. I got to agree with you on that. You cannot sit back and turn the other cheek for the terrorists. This isn't Sunday School.

With the WTC 93 bombings heres what happened:
In October 1996, the militant Islamist and blind cleric Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, who preached at mosques in Brooklyn and Jersey City, was sentenced to life imprisonment for masterminding the bombing. Rahman, whose Islamic Group organization is believed to have had links to Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network, was later convicted with a number of others of conspiracy charges to bomb several New York City landmarks (see New York City landmark bomb plot). In 1998, Ramzi Yousef, said by some to have been the real mastermind, was convicted of "seditious conspiracy" to bomb the towers. When Ramzi Yousef was brought back to America, he was flown over the still intact twin towers. One of the other men tried alongside Yousef for the bombing was Eyad Ismail. In all, ten militant Islamist conspirators – including Ramzi Yousef – were convicted for their part in the bombing and were given prison sentences of a maximum of 240 years each.

Now on the USS Cole here was what happened:

On November 3, 2002, the CIA fired a AGM-114 Hellfire missile from a Predator UAV at a vehicle carrying Abu Ali al-Harithi, a suspected planner of the bombing plot. Also in the vehicle was Ahmed Hijazi, a U.S. citizen. Both were killed. This operation was carried out on Yemeni soil.

On September 29, 2004, a Yemeni judge sentenced Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri and Jamal al-Badawi to death for their roles in the bombing. Al-Nashiri, believed to be the operation's mastermind, is currently being held by the U.S. at Guantanamo Bay detention camp.[9] Al-Badawi, in Y

On September 29, 2004, a Yemeni judge sentenced Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri and Jamal al-Badawi to death for their roles in the bombing. Al-Nashiri, believed to be the operation's mastermind, is currently being held by the U.S. at Guantanamo Bay detention camp.[9] Al-Badawi, in Yemeni custody, denounced the verdict as "an American one." Four others were sentenced to prison terms of five to 10 years for their involvement, including one Yemeni who had videotaped the attack.

On the Embassy's well I have found this:

A federal court has indicted 11 people in the bombings, including the alleged ring leader, Osama bin Laden, a Saudi believed to head an international terrorist group.

I am not sure if they have caught any of these 11 from the embassy bombings

I should also tell you I found that Bill Clinton spent a Billion to beef up security at US Embassies after the attack.

I found an interesting piece on who cut the Military budget.

George Bush's military budgets were as follows:
1990 358.7 (-$17.5 billion, -4.7%)
1991 316.5 (-$42.2 billion, -11.8%)
1992 328.6 (+$12.1 billion, +3.8%)
1993 312.1 (-$16.5 billion, -5.0%)

Clinton's military budgets (during his first term) were as follows:
1994 290.3 (-$21.8 billion, -7.0%)
1995 272.1 (-$18.2 billion, -6.3%)
1996 265.6 (-$6.5 billion, -2.4%)
1997 254.4 (-11.2 billion, -4.2%)

Clinton's military budgets (during his second term) were as follows:
1998 265.3 (+10.9 billion, +4.3%)
1999 270.6 (+5.3 billion, +2.0%)
2000 280.8 (+10.2 billion, +3.8%)
2001 305.4 (+24.6 billion, +8.8%)

When Bush came into office, the military budget was 358.7. When he left it was 312.1. That is a decrease of $46.6 billion or 13.0%.

When Clinton came into office, the military budget was 290.3. When he left it was 305.4. That is an increase of $15.1 billion or 5%.

wolakp,

You are right about the middle of Cintons time in office but by the end Cinton had woken up. I didn't put up all these things to dispel what you were saying but to remind you what happened as we all forget. I wasn't aware of some of the things I found.

Good find, but you can relate both Bush 1 and Clinton to events that happened. For example I came in the Army in '88. We had a massive force to match Russias. With the threat with Russia gone during that time 91, we had the first Gulf War. Reason for the big boost in '92. Yes the country was doing great, but cuts had to come from somewhere and he choosed the Military. The Military can't speak up against your boss the President. But you notice the jump in '98, that's when we went into the Bulkins and stayed there, thus why the increase in the budget.
From a Military man's point of view, Clinton was soft on terror. Launching a missile doesn't prove we did anything. Would you agree that the American people are re-active, not pro-active?
As for Hillary, she was caught in another flip-flop comment involving using nukes against terrorism. Time and time again and like any politian they change there views to flavor of the day. Who ever wins the White House, I hope he/her don't cave in to terror and we get hit again.

Thanks Tall

Great Post!!!

Wolakp

I'm all for going after the terrorist that attacked us, but they were (for the most part) from Saudi Arabia.
Why did we go into Iraq? Please don’t tell me WMD’s, or to enforce a U.N. resolution. LOL. We should have had more boots on the ground in Afghanistan to catch Bin Laden, but instead of going after the bully (bin laden) we went and picked on the weak Fat kid (Saddam). LOL. It seems That Bush was going to go into Iraq no matter what anyone said, to his corrupt administration. Now it comes out after almost six years and almost $451,000,000,000.00 dollars later we are, No safer now than before 9/11. Does that mean we are going to be attacked by Bin laden and Al-Qaeda again? (Talk about failing the American people). That’s not even counting the 5 Billion dollars we gave to Pakistan over the last five years to help us “Catch” Bin Laden. This president and administration is a JOKE and a bad one at that! That’s 451 trillion dollars that could have built one HELL of a fence to secure our southern border, and beef up our Northern. The same people that approved the government to wire tap our phones and read our E-mails don’t have to answer to ANYBODY. If this administration is on the level, then why are they hideing so much info? Bush telling people not to testify in front of courts it’s just ridiculous. Our government has to change!! The Republican Party has lost a lot of respect from the American people across the board, staying the course is Not an Option. Actor/senator/lobbyist Fred Thompson is the leading GOP president

"Launching a missile doesn't prove we did anything. Would you agree that the American people are re-active, not pro-active?"

They are most assuredly reactive On that missile remember the two men who actually attacked the Cole were from Yemen and Yemen put them to death. The missile got the mastermind I sure hope he got to see it coming at him.

I guess you could say I'm a Democrat but I am most interested in what any candidate can do to improve the world in which we live.
