I don't have a desk here at Fox6.   I use computers that are not being used.  But they are sooo gross.  There are little crumbs everywhere.  Last week, I sat at a computer and  the space bar was stuck.  I shook the keyboard and about three tablespoons of crumbs fell out.

I know that people sometimes wipe their work space.  Obviously, keyboards are more prone to crumbs and dust and flecks of whatever.

How do you keep your keyboards chunk-free?  Do those little vacuum cleaner thingys work?

You could order new computer keyboards or either the last person who eat at the computer should clean up their mess. Sorry Fox 6 Team, I'm just keeping it real, but however I'm just crackin a joke. LOL!

Anyways, to keep a chunky crumb-free keyboard, I know for a fact that you can take apart the keys of the keyboard and just dump out the mess inside the keyboard and the keys are retachable again. That would be your choice to do it, but you have to be careful to make sure not break the bottom of the keys hole or snapping area to put the key back on the board otherwise, you and the keys of the board are done for.

There is an alternate option though that's better than that. I think some stores like K-Mart, Wal-Mart, TARGET, maybe Menards, Lowes, and Home Depot sells these air spray for your keyboards and what it does is spray up or sucks out the crumbs out the keyboards.

As for cleaning the keys, just make sure your computer is off completely and get some soap and water and a towel and ring out the towel and rub off the keys up and down and left and right until its cleaned completely. If you get some left over soap and water inside the keyboard, it will not effect the keys. If nothing doesn't change, then in all honesty, you all may have to get new keyboards, seriously.

What do they be eating at the desk around the computer by the keyboard?

Every day, I have to turn the keyboard upside down and pound on the back to get crumbs out. The kids are always eating something while typing. I was thinking of GENTLY wrapping the keyboard in Saran Wrap?!?! I wonder if that will work? If it does, it will keep the crumbs out of the little crevaces. And you can see right through it, so, it's worth a shot!

There are rubberized clear covers made especially to protect the keyboard. I call them keyboard condoms. I am sure you could find them at Office Depot, Office Max or similar office supply stores.

Antoine, out of curiosity, do you have a brother named Cory? I ask because in the neighborhood where we used to live there was a Antoine that lived with his grandparents and he would be about your age and you look sorta like him. Just wondering????
P.S....yes I realize there is Only1Antoine! LOL

Environmental Services or Housekeeping is supposed to vaccuum the keyboards every once in a while, not very night, but when they do their thorough cleaning. Put in a request that they begin to do that. can't hurt to ask.

You could probally use compressed air dusters... you can buy them at any major department store like Walmart or Target. They use pressurized air to clean the dust and crumbs or whatever out of the keys without using water or soap that would ruin it. As for the spacebar being stuck I would reccomend taking the keyboard apart and using a cotton swab with a touch of alchohol or soap and clean the underside of it, be careful not to get it on the curcuits though. Also, let it dry before you replace it.

I remember I split some Orange Juice on my keyboard and the spacebar and a few other keys got locked up. I did what I mentioned and after a few times my keyboard was back to normal!

As odd as it may sound, you can also clean your keyboard by placing it in the dishwasher. Don't use soap, or the dry cycle. Just place it in the top rack, and wash with hot water. When the wash cycle is complete I place the keyboard on its side on a towel. It normally takes about 3 days for it to completely dry, but once it does, it works good as new.

I wouldn't suggest trying this on one of the extremely expensive keyboards, don't know if I'd be willing to take that chance. But since I normally purchase the less expensive ones, and have been fortunate to have picked up some keyboards very reasonable at rummage sales, (probably being sold due to owners not knowing how to clean them), I always have an extra on hand while the one I just washed is drying.
