Today, I am all by myself.  I've been editting packages and running around getting locator video, or picking up mugshots, or criminal complaints and what not.  Basically, I've been driving around a lot.  And you may have noticed that it's raining.

Hellloooo... it's raining.  Turn your lights on.

I assume that my car works the same as every other car and fogs up right away.  And that the windshield wipers can't prevent water from landing on my windshield.  And that, when it's raining every driver's vision is lessened.

So, why the heck don't people use their lights?  Don't people want to be seen.  Maybe they just want to get into an accident.  Maybe they don't care.  Maybe I'm just getting old and grumpy.  I don't know.

Also...please I beg of you.....use your blinkers.  It's a very useful tool that helps other drivers react to your movements before they happen.  It also probably helps prevent accidents.

I'm not going so far as to say that if it's raining and you DON'T use your blinkers or headlights....that you deserve to be in an accident.  I'm just suggesting that we will ALL be safer if we use our lights and blinkers.

Thanks for letting me rant.  Sorry I missed blogapalooza.

I agree; it's amazing how many people I see out driving in the rain who don't put their headlights on. It's just so dangerous. Now as for me I'm the kind of person who always puts my headlights on- it's just a habit of mine, no matter how sunny out it is I turn my lights on. Lately I've been keeping them off if it's very sunny out since I think putting them on all the time may be bad for the car battery.

Oh, don't even get me started on people with blinkers- or lack, there of.

Susanne, I totally agree with everything you said. You might want to include "PEOPLE AT 4 WAY STOPS SIGNS" in with your rant because that is one of my biggest rants on the road.

I swear!! When some people get to a 4 way stop sign they just don't get the concept! It seems so many people are in such a big big hurry, and when it's not their turn to proceed they do anyway almost causing an accident! PEOPLE SLOW DOWN!!! GEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ!!!

Where ever your going is still going to be there whether or not your speeding or crawling like a snail!

I have my Jetta set up so that the lights come on as soon as the car starts. They never shut off. Also, a hint from a former operator of fire engines. Guys in wet turnout gear make the fire engine windows fog up like crazy and fast. So, keep the air conditioning on all the time. Especially when it rains. You can turn the temp up to whatever is comfortable. Modern a/c units don't sap much power from the engine and they can be used down to 0 degrees without damage. Air conditioning works by drying the air. Get the moisture out of the air the fogged windows clear up. Yes, the defroster works off of the a/c. But using the a/c increases the number of vents pushing dry air into the car.

That was a great tip Basher51. I never would have thought of my a/c. i'll try it.

Thanks catlvr1. A few years ago my wife and I were traveling with another couple in their car. It was kind of a chilly Autumn morning and the car windows were getting fogged. This guy turned on the defroster and jacked the heat all of the way up. I told the guy to just turn on his a/c. He wouldn't hear of it. So we sweated until the guy's wife almost screamed at him to turn off the heat. Of course, more heat--more sweat--more moisture. He never did turn on the a/c. The only window that was clear was the windshield. Yet, he swore that there was something wrong with his defroster. The car was a 2000-something Taurus. I wonder what the dealer mechanic told him. That was the last time that we traveled with those folks.

Basher51, I don't have air. What do I do then? I usually, just defrost or roll the window down a little
