I noticed late in the night and on week-ends or holidays there is a bad odor in the air outside! Many days I wake up in the morning and find a white ash that has settled on my red van! Why is this always happening after most people go to bed? I live near Metro Airport, close to the site of the deep injection well that most residents in the area fought hard and long to prevent .
The state "Big Wigs" came here and fought AGAINST our will in stopping it! They claimed it would be safe and not harmful or a problem. So, guess who won---not the people that live around the site! I wonder how much of a cut the state is getting because they sure did push it through!
Trucks are always hauling "who knows what" there-from Canada and whoever else will line the owners pockets with gold.
I smell something stinky right now!! My bet is that smell and ash is coming from that site at I-94 and Inkster Road.!

Whenever I smelled something stinky my mom told me it was my own upper lip.

SunshineGal,
I used to live near 23 mile and Gratiot, close to an industrial site that emitted a nasty plastic smell every so often. The EPA checked it out, found the source and then told me that nothing could be done unless the neighborhood petitioned the plastics plant to put better filters on their stacks.

Sometimes you can drive through the city of New Baltimore and smell something nasty, too.

Then there are the new neighborhoods popping up in the suburbs. Many of these new subdivisions are located on top of old landfills. Who knows, maybe the landfills are good for growing gardens in your new backyard.

What about the strong factory odors you can smell when you're driving on I-94 near the downriver area. You can see the smoke stacks. There are still people living around the factories. Back in the day, people lived close to where they worked in the factories so they accepted and tolerated the stenchy smell. It's no wonder so many people have asthma. Today, people have more choices. People don't have to live near all the pollution.

You may want to consider moving. The ash thing doesn't sound good. The last time I checked, there are no volcanos near metro airport. I haven't heard of any forest fires out your way either.

Do you mean the EPA when you write, "State Big Wigs", who aren't doing anything to help monitor the pollution? You can try writing to your congressman or woman. That may or may not help. Moving away from the source of the pollution may be your only option if it bothers you that much.

I would suggest bringing your problem to the atten

I would suggest bringing your problem to the attention of the media, but I think your area already did that. By the sounds of it, it didn't help solve your problem either. At the very least, the smoke stacks in your area need better filters.

Gee, funny you should say that, I drove by Inkster and 94 the other day and had to stop at the traffic light there and was glad to get out of that area. I live in Taylor also and wondered about injecting harmful toxins deep into the earth and under Lake Erie. The last i heard is that the well is now closed and the operators are no where to be found.

Welcome to the blogs Sunshinegal . Stooltime , I live at 24 mi. and Gratiot , that nasty smell is fish-flies . Thanks to Michigans economy , I don't know that there are any plastic factories left [ other than China ] . Take a sample of that white ash , then take it to a local university for study , and see what you can find out .

You're right, Shock. Not much left at the Schmidt complex. I lived in that area for 29 years. I moved in 2005.

Good to see you back in the forums here.

I love this country,my country. I believe in doing the right thing. Morals are more important than money. I'm optimistic about our future. I believe while still only one I can stand up for right values and make a difference. I believe working increases our appreciation for things in life. I'm disgusted when I see our government giving free money and benefits to people that don't believe in democracy, never contributed anything here, don't believe in our values, and are trying to destroy this country while they are taking everything they can. I believe there was a time when one had to prove they would have gainful employment here, have enough money to live on or have a sponsor to support them or they couldn't come to America. We are all blessed to live here! Let's strive to build this nation not tear it down. I don't like people wrongly knocking someone to get ahead or to have their one minute of fame, especially right now, in an election year! We shouldn't vote out of hatred! I think of the many bad things that could happen every day and don't! We must have unseen protection!
