I would like to give Governor Granholm some help.  Based on a news report I heard Wednesday morning on 950 AM, she wants it.  Lets brainstorm some ideas and offer our reasonable suggestions to her and the legislature before the October 31st deadline.

Governor Granholm says she is open to hearing some alternative ways of raising revenue for our state instead of raising taxes.  She adds that as of Wednesday, she has not heard any good ideas yet.

The only guideline I'd like to suggest is that our ideas be reasonable.

GO!

I'll start by repeating what I've suggested in other posts: Tax abatements for businesses to offer them a fiscal incentive to either stay in Michigan or set-up shop in Michigan. To qualify, the business would need to employ a minimum number of workers. That number could be decided by an economics expert.

Michigan needs to project an attractive business culture so more people work and pay taxes in Michigan. Share the tax burden by employing more workers. Employ more workers by attracting more businesses to Michigan.

Strength in numbers rather than strength by raising income, sales or business taxes.

Mine will not raise revenue, but it will slow expenditures. We need to change the weight limits to follow the federal guide lines. Michigan's is almost double that weight, and as such we keep having to repair the highways. I also would take a hard look at the Worker to Administration ratio in the State Employee's.

Tall,

You're right! Funny you said that, I was just talking about this to my cousin on Sunday.

Just saw in the news last night that Macomb will be cutting too. I think they realized that you can't raise taxes anymore, there's no people left to pay.

Saleries of the State elected officials should be cut by 3-5%. Should be done by performance. ie..showing up to vote on measures, leave the politics out of it, but whether he/she does their job. Put in the honest hours to get things done.

Start with wasted government spending; Pay the politicians only when they are indeed at work. Eliminate useless employees and multi-task like most office workers do. Eliminate the state gas tax so Michiganders can better afford to spend and stimulate the economy. Privatize the prison system that claims it needs hundreds a day to house criminals. Very reasonable to clean their own house first before they attempt to clean out our homes.

She wants our help, it seems like all she wants is our money and jobs

Unfortunately she is succeeding on both points.

It is too late. She has already blown me away!! That's one promise she kept to us!! One great idea would be to step down with all other idiots that backed her!!!

Granholm wants the people's help? Isn't she in the state's top job? No surprise she isn't even qualified to make the choices that serve the people, not hers. Granholm wants suggestions? Too bad I can't put them into public print. I thought I saw her mole crossing the state line last week-It couldn't handle the possibility of Shutdown II. LOL

If it's not something 'she' wants then it won't happen anyway.
Here's an easy one. She'll say she's already taken a pay cut by giving 5 or 10% of her salary back but does that come close to paying for the office, staff and expenses of her spouse? Why do we need to pay for this for ANY Governor's spouse? Oh of course she'd say that and any other small items combined don't raise revenue just reduce costs.
So how about she stops giving away future tax dollars of this State by ceasing granting tax incentives? Stop the incentives and doesn't that raise revenue? She'll say the job increases are worth it but where are they all with the unemployment rate here still rising? Have any of these jobs been guaranteed to present residents of Michigan?
Granholm just wants more money to spend as she in her infinite wisdom as Queen of our State sees fit. After over 4 years she's still blaming everyone else including the citizens. Wasn't it she who said something like it's not our money?

Rather that just Bash and Trash perhaps you could offer alterative's instead of insults?

There all alternatives stated not just 'Bash and Trash' and I'd bet none of them are done. If you want to accuse us of insulting Granholm why not look at the other side of the coin and look at her insulting the citizens of Michigan? George W. Bush was asked why he wanted to be President in an interview the first time he was running and he said something like because then no one can tell me what to do. Hasn't Granholm done the same? Evidence, her stand that she would not sign a budget extension that did not guarantee her tax increases, her position that the citizens are not looking to the common good and it's not our money anyway which basically blames us for the deficit and says pay for these services because you should (reminds me of the line, because I'm the mother and I said so). She's looking to big dollar cuts and not the smaller items that would add up and should be eliminated. After all, doesn't she say we should think outside the box? Or does that only qualify if it is inside her box insulting us further by implying we aren't intelligent enough to have a box outside of hers. Could predict her response to whatever is proposed but that's too easy.

Wwwh,

Your whole last reply was to trash Jennifer, but do you know why she insisted on the tax increases? To help off set the tax cut she installed for the business community. She did that to promote growth and jobs for Michigander's. It would be nice to say no new taxes, but at the end of the day we all have to pay bills, even a state.

Granholm deserves to be "BASHED and TRASHED" she is USELESS, a year from now there still will not be any new jobs and MI will still have the highest unemployment rate with only half the citizens remaining. I have seen over the past couple months all kinds of suggestions on what could be cut from the budget.

Yes and she will take credit for everything, including the big UAW agreements about to pump more money into Michigan and keep autoworker jobs here. She has nothing to do with these contracts, but will take full credit for the rebound Michigan will see in the next 18 months or so. She should not be Governor of this state anymore and should be recalled for her incompetence.

Worm I am glad you see what I have said so many times It's not Jennifer's fault what happenes at the Big Three. You say she is going to take credit I haven't heard that at all. I have heard how all the Big Three's problems were cause by Jennifer Granholm which is a bold face lie.

Dfro,
Here's a sugestion to you rather than insult people why not use your skills to say what's wrong, and what you think could be done to improve it.

I believe the majority of bloggers concerned with our state and Granholm, for & against, have voiced their opinions and suggestions. Sorry you are in the minority of those that support her or her constituents. Put the recall on a ballot & see what the people really want. Don't believe the "hype". LOL

Tall, your last comment is like watching a home burn and trying to decide whether to call the fire department or put it out by yourself. LOL

"Put the recall on a ballot & see what the people really want."

That can't happen without petitions gathered legally, and that is what the story is about isn't it? The will of the people is being heard in volumes no one is really doing anything.
