Here is the story...

Tryst turns into $50K robbery for RNC delegate
By STEVE KARNOWSKI

Associated Press Writer

MINNEAPOLIS
--

Police are trying to find a woman who apparently drugged a Republican National Convention delegate and robbed him of about $50,000 worth of jewelry, cash and other items in his hotel room.

Gabriel Schwartz, a Denver attorney and party donor, told police he met the woman in a bar at the luxurious Hotel Ivy in downtown Minneapolis and invited her to his room early on Sept. 4, a few hours after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin accepted the GOP vice presidential nomination.

Once there, police say, the woman made drinks and told Schwartz to get undressed.

The 29-year-old delegate told police that was the last thing he remembered. Police believe he was drugged but aren't sure what drug he was given, police Sgt. William Palmer said Tuesday.

When Schwartz awoke, the woman was gone and so were cash and belongings that included a watch he valued at $30,000.

"We have no doubt this happened," Palmer said. "The guy has been very forthcoming with us. He's been very helpful in the investigation."

The delegate gave police a detailed description, but investigators had no suspects, Palmer said. He stressed that investigators don't believe Schwartz did anything wrong.

"It's embarrassing to admit that I was a target of a crime," Schwartz said in a statement Tuesday. "I was drugged and had about $50,000 of personal items stolen."

"As a single man, I was flattered by the attention of a beautiful woman who introduced herself to me. I used poor judgment. If there is any good that can come from this humiliation, it is to caution others that date rape drugs can be used on men, too," he said.

Speedy's thoughts...

Wow – a 29 year old single male was “shopping around” and got what he didn’t want.   This sounds like one of those horny Democrats!  And most bloggers know where I stand on politics!  Dude meets a female, they go to his room and then he wakes up with about $50 thousand less in cash and jewelry.

What in the heck is this young pup doing carrying (or having) that much in jewelry?  I don’t know if I am more amazed at his lack of good judgement with the gal or the fact that he had so much valuable jewelry – period.

It goes to show you that a night of sex (which apparently he didn’t have) can be quite costly.  Let this be a lesson to all you horny rich politicians out there – STICK to your business and you might stay out of trouble!

Since any acts of STUPIDITY (rudeness) are not legally a misdemeanor yet - I will DELETE any rude remarks from experienced jerks/trolls. I do HAVE the right to discriminate!

Good stuff! Isn't it amazing that all political parties are sex driven?

Yeah, we heard about slick Willy and others. This one has to win some prizes though.

The guy was a lawyer and literally got taken to the bank. Isn't having nearly $50,000 in cash and jewelry on you a bit too much?

I am not broke nor a rich man but my only piece of jewelry is my wedding band. I don't even use a watch since I have my cell with me all the time.

Nice clip and quite embarrassing. Wouldn't it be ironic if the gal was an RNC Delegate also?

He thought she was pro-bono, but she was no-bono :)

I think I would have just counted my losses and quietly went back home.

A big LOL to kkmmurrpphhyy response! I can't wait to see the response from his insurance company.

I am only assuming that he's going to file a claim since he's brave enough to file a police report.

And I really wonder who this gal is? I still think she's another RNC Delegate just staking her claim.

Hey K - nice comment! I'm just wondering how this will all pan out. I laughed when I first read it then decided to blog about it.

I was expecting tons of responses so I guess there are only a few of us with a great sense of humor.

Amazing.....this stuff happens at every convention, it hits the papers big time, every time and yet these guys continue to do it with the belief they won't get caught.

Put this guy with the 'toe tapper' and have a 2 for 1 sale.

Do you think he'll gain/loss clients with his law business in Denver? I do understand that he's single but aren't lawyers supposed to be sharp? I have tried to calculate how much jewelry we have around the house and we can't even come up with half of the 30 thousand.

He's probably a criminal lawyer that takes his fees in bags full of bling.

That's pretty crazy stuff here, Speedy. Are you sure he wasn't just POSING as a nice, conservative Repub? HA! I know from being involved in politics that men's sexual brain crosses all political parties....but even though he used poor judgement, I feel a little guilty laughing at this poor guy's outcome!

Hey M4W - miss ya! Yeah it is very funny because the guy basically set himself up for the incident. And to add to the "crazy" humor he's a lawyer!

Feeling guilty for this guy on losing $50K in items, I look at the average American (me) and see that most don't have more than $5K in jewelry - on the road or at home. No guilt.

Do you think he was trying to look flashy in the bar in order to get picked up?

How many married men had the same thing happen, and no way to report it without serious injury? IN Denver and Minneapolis.

Yep dannbetty I was wondering the same thing. This guy of course claims to be single and what he did isn't illegal just not smart. He probably didn't even get the gals name. I still have been inventorying our jewelry and combined we're still below $4,000. I guess we are cheapos!

I am me. I've been blogging since the term existed but began here in March 2007. I am completing my Doctorate of CS (Common Sense). I like a harsh debate but when ego gets involved we all tend (except ego-tripper) to shy away. I am a firm believer that STUPIDITY should be a misdemeanor.
