It’s summer and that means more people are out and about.  It’s now time to prevent crime from happening in your neighborhoods.  You should already have a Neighborhood Watch (NW) program intact – if not, call your local Police Department to get one started.

Our NW consists of a full diagram of all residents living on the street, all contact numbers, email addresses, and IM names.  We have volunteers pass out a calendar in order to get “watchers” signed up for what day/times to be on call.

Yeah, nothing has happened on our street since it’s inception in 2000 but prevention is the name of the game.  No neighborhood is exempt from crime therefore be prepared and be safe.  Let me hear what you are doing for your NW programs.

Since any acts of STUPIDITY (rudeness) are not legally a misdemeanor yet - I will DELETE any rude remarks from experienced jerks. I do have the right to discriminate!

Good idea speedy...thanks for promoting this. I know many neighborhoods who participate in this. BUT as of yet I dont think ours does...

I will look into this...tho I have my own personal watcher...a guy across the street who sits outside alot! He keeps an eye on our place ...younger than me but on disability.

BUT I believe in the program and think all neighborhoods should participate....so I will look into it! Thanks....

Hey Speedy how are ya?

We haven't had any problems since the early 90's when four boys all from one house were arrested for drug possession and distribution. Had a camera in what is now my oldest daughter's room. The parents were mad but haven't had any drugs or traffic on the street since.

Plus I use bring (they're now mine) my Dad's shotguns home and clean them out on the front porch on Saturday afternoon when lots of pre-teens and teens were walking up and down our street. Got to know a few of the teens by cleaning my Dad's guns.

What I have found is just get out and talk with your neighbors. We know whose kid belongs to who and their friends. Plus just being visible and aware. Sometimes when I see something unusual like a car parked at the end of our street I just sit and pretend to talk into my phone. I think I have disrupted many teens sexual encounters by doing this.

We watch each other year round not just during the summer. We do talk more to each other during the summer simply because we are outside more.

snoopydad...hey how are you? ....yeah our neighborhood is a little like that...minus the cleaning of the shotguns on the front porch! lol...

Our neighbors look out for ea. other here as well. Our neighborhood is nice b/c it is a one way in and a one way out as well...cuts down on activity...and people get to know the cars that go up and down the street....or when something is different..

I started to form one and first looked to see where the registered sex offeners were at. Dang, to many of them and they lived to close because they live in my neighborhood. So much for the neighbood watch thing in my neighborhood. I decide to forget about it and bought another gun instead. Lucky for me huh?

Hey Speedo long time no blog did you find your thesarus finally? J/K. Yep, those watch programs help prevent crime and all communities need to have them. I thought we were in a watch program here but the signs have since been removed so who knows.

Now bubba the way you worded your comment in the end, "lucky for me huh?" leaves a huge question mark in my mind. Is it lucky for you that you have lots of registered offendors near you?

How's it going Kelly? I haven't seen or heard from you in a long while.

Hey Snoop - what's up brother? How is your rehab going on your leg?

Biker - nice on that thesarus comment - you could be correct (not!).

Bubba - move out of that area if there are so many RSO in vicinity. Once you look over the available lists it's amazing on just where some of these people live. Good luck.

Finally, a program from law enforcement for the community that works! We have a good neighborhood watch program in our gated community. Add to that a couple of security cameras that record license numbers coming and going plus an alarm on my castle that is RF linked to the alarm company so things are quite secure. When at home, we have additional protection by Kimber.

No RSOs in the entire area of Town & Country. All of them have fled to the low rent districts to practice their low life behavior.

Kurkel the shot guns I clean every so often now are antiques. If I were to shoot these - on a firing range - the gun(s) would most likely explode.

Anyway it was more for show than anything and it worked.

We dont have a formal watch progam. I watch out for other peoples homes and cars since I sit outside after dark a lot. Light sleeper.

But I couldnt tell you if they are doing the same for me.

The only problem I have over the summer is kids left home alone and being allowed to do whatever ol thing they want to do.

Please parents. Consider summer camp for your kids if you or someone else cant watch them.

Having too much time on their hands can make even the best behaved child act stupid. Especially with kids their age around.

In the neighborhoods I grew up in the neighborhood watcher, was the 'Look Out Guy' for the gang. If you really think cameras, watchers, police officers can make a differents, tell that to the people living in Ladue, kirkwood,Clayton, and Prison.
There is more crime in prison per numbers than on the the street and they have the best security. How many kids where kill at that school? If you want to stop crime look at your self.Did I see you going 5 miles over the speed limit, did I hear you call person stupid, did I hear you tell your kids to maked good grades, to get that better paying job .What a waste. Knowledge is the Keeper of the Soul, not money ,the rest comes easy . MY PINION THANK YOU

To Speedy I thought Sunset Hills was a nice place to live. We all make mistakes. I will move in about 4 years and Texas is looking very nice tax wise.
