UPDATE:  Hours after being told to remove his electronic
tether, Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was ordered Thursday to put it back
on, a result of the legal pingpong occurring in his two separate
criminal cases.

A judge overseeing Kilpatrick's arraignment on perjury and other
charges said the mayor could get rid of the tether around his ankle
and also attend the Democratic National Convention later this
month.

But by afternoon another judge handling assault charges against
the mayor reinstated the tether as a condition of his release in
that case. Those terms were first set Aug. 8.

(THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL POST FROM THIS MORNING)

(Detroit AP) -- A judge says Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will
be allowed to travel to the Democratic National Convention in
Denver and go without a tether that had been ordered in his perjury
case.

Kilpatrick and his former top aide were in Wayne County Circuit
Court on Thursday morning for an arraignment on perjury and other
charges stemming from a text-messaging sex scandal. Not guilty
pleas were entered on their behalf.

Judge Leonard Townsend raised the question about whether
Kilpatrick should be allowed to travel to the convention, where he
is a superdelegate. Prosecutors objected to the judge's decision.

Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty were charged in March with
conspiracy, perjury, obstruction of justice and misconduct in
office, all tied to their testimony in a civil trial.

No tether. No travel restrictions.

Is this fair? Would "John Six-Pack" get the same deal? Judge Townsend has decided to ignore Judge Giles and Judge Jackson rulings that stipulated the travel restrictions. He refers to the tether and restrictions as silly. Were the judges wrong? Kilpatrick did violate the condition of his bond, did he not?

Perhaps Judge Townsend is right. He says we are all presumed innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. The perjury and obstruction of justice trial has only just begun. Nothing has been proven yet.

He's already the laughin stock of the nation, if Kwame wants to go to the Democratic Convention then let him go and look like the fool he already is.

its only fare. people forget that nothing has been proven. they can charge anybody with anything but it doesnt mean they did it. Mike Cox charged the mayor with violating his bond when it was clear he didnt. they have a suspect in T Greens murder. so that lets the Mayor off the hook for that. and that is how this whole mess started.

Any politician there that cares about being re-elected will stay away from him. So maybe he needs to see what it feels like to be a pariah. Guess the judge is his buddy.

How unfair was this trial? Kwame gets off even though TWO Judges found him guilty of violating his bond. Know he has no travel restrictions and the Tether gets removed. Let's start an unfair justice agreement with the Judge and ask that he overturn Abraham's bond violation? All Abraham wanted to do was get some exercise and now he is in jail.
What happened, (like the Judge said), your innocent until proven guilty. Although let me remind you TWO Judges did find KK guilty!!! The Democratic Convention doesn't even want KK there! If KK makes it in office till November he will be VESTED and recieve a PENSION because any Mayor of Detroit that serves a term of 8 years gets that service. He needs to be OUSTED before that.
Also, buddy Granholm is waiting until September 3rd to start her hearings and the State Law says that it only takes a SIGNATURE from the GOVERNOR, (if you want to call her that), to throw him out of office, but don't forget they are best friends. The whole entire State of Michigan is hurting from this and KK has so much money that even the State of Michigan can't stop him!

Kim Worthy was afraid of Kawammee and his association with judges. Somthing isn't right with this, and he will probably get off scott free in other matters. Lansing should move all the cases to Oakland County.

My business and I pray that all the extremely large and even the small businesses start pulling out faster and faster out of Detroit until the people, supporters, staff and all major leaders do something to stop KK and Cronies from further hurting Detroit and majorly OUR State of Michigan! I believe that only people with a lot of power can really do something to help us.
Even Obama should univite KK to the Democratic Convention. That would be the best slap in the face of all. Don't you all agree!

The judge must be a republican to allow this mayor to attend the convention. What a way to split up the Democratic party.

Kym Worthy has been trying really hard to do that, but like I said, KK is worse than the mob and he can do whatever he wants to. He can even though he's violated his bond and lied in court on several occasions he gets away with everything. What if it was you or I in front of the Judge? We would be sitting in jail for months before we would even get a preliminary trial. Look at Abraham, all he wanted to do was, "get some exercise."

Kim Worthy was right about the 36th district court. Two judges rule that Kilpatrick was guilty of violating bond rules. Now a third judge has the arrogance to say Kilpatrick is not guilty of anything. Let him be free to do what he wants. Kilpatrick is going to walk free with the 36th district running the show. The judge said I'm ruling and I say he will not do anything wrong. My ears and eyes are in a state of shock. Where is this judge for the average joe six-pack who is innocent until proven guilty.

Lansing, yea right! Granholm has been signing all kinds of bills on telling us parents how to run our own childrens lives, yet she can't control the one thing she was voted in to do and that is,"RUN OUR STATE" which includes making sure one of our major cities is running correctly. Do you really think Lansing, (Granholm) is going to do anything?

I (personally) would think that Kwame would want to keep a "low profile" at this point considering his current and pending legal issue.

Why would you want to go to the Democratic National Convention and be on "front street".
This is not something that he has to do - it's something that he Wants to do.

Kwame please stop thinking ONLY of yourself and consider how your actions are affecting other people (directly and indirectly) !!

The Democratic Party needs POSITIVE PRESS and Kwame's issues may cast a "Dark Shadow"

Let all the Violator's of their Bond out free, why should we pay taxes on all of them. KK gets a, "Get out of jail card free, 10 TIMES), why not everyone else. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Where does one begin? I am totally mortified and taken aback by this entire foolishness. I am ashamed to say I am a resident of the City of Detroit. Where is the justice? Where is the sense of responsibility? Kwame should be held to a higher standard for being the Mayor and not to mention some type of role model for our youth. I guess that is out the window! What kind of example is being set by him or the Judges who minimize the serious nature of these happenings and the outcome? It is giving the delinquent youth the impression that it's okay to commit crimes and make a debaucery of the system because they will only get a slap on the wrist. He is not only an embarrassment to the City but just to manking as well. What is most appalling is the fact that he does not appear to want to take responsibility for any of his actions. When he "supposedly" does it's because someone has written a script for him and he believes with a few insincere words that people will welcome him back with open arms. The pathetic thing is people have and will continue to. Who has enough common sense and insight to recognize that he believes that the residents of the City are fools and have no insight whatsoever. Don't we, the people, think better of ourselves, our City and our children to want more and the best. I know my family, my child and myself are entitled to the best and I refuse to let the irresponsibility and immaturity of Kwame Kilpatrick dictate what is best for me and mine. This entire thing is pathetic. Negativity about the City is rampant across the Nation! He has not grown up from High
