WASHINGTON (AP) -- In another push to deal with soaring gas prices, President Bush on Monday will lift an executive ban on offshore drilling that his stood since his father was president. But the move, by itself, will do nothing unless Congress acts as well.

The president plans to officially lift the ban and explain his actions in a Rose Garden statement, White House press secretary Dana Perino said.

What do you think?
Should we drill off our shores? Or not?

Dril mo-fo drill . I've heard the old " It wont work for ten years crap before " for 4 decades now . Well , if we would have done this 40 years ago , we wouldn't be where we are at now . Drill the damn holes now ! Get it over with .
And how about this .
Lets stop subsidising tax payers money without a return for the taxpayers .
I'm sick and tired of tax payers buying a space shuttle , and satelites , only to later pay to use the benefits of them .
If we , as investers , in something , with our money , shouldn't we get a return , in a capitolist society ?
Shouldn't we , as investeors , and in control of our government , be able to tell them to drill for oil , then give it to American companies , at the drilling and transport cost , and tell them they are allowed to make a 15% profit for refining cost and such , without puting it on the open market ?
That would be good for us , and good for business .
They only make 10% now .
The problem lies where 10% is made off of 30 dollars , or 10% off 140 dollars .
This would drive down the world cost of oil world wide instanly , and keep American money where it belongs , in America .

We should be looking into all types of energy sources. I don't understand why the oil that any country produces has to go into the world market. If an American company drills on American soil and is Subsidized by American citizens then why can't the oil be sold only in American markets? We should be drilling off our coasts, because we have several other countries already out there drilling. Conservationists need to understand that if the United States dosen't drill off the coasts than somebody else will. Maybe a country that dosen't have all the saftey provisions that the U.S. has. Just like the emmissions and green house gas. The U.S. can pass all kinds of laws controlling our own companies, but that dosen't mean anybody else has to. If you think the U.S. is the biggest contributor to pollution than take a trip to some other countries. India,China,Japan,Brazil

If you go to this link and read what Carl Levin has to say about why things are so high you will see we don't need to drill. It is a bit of a long read but well worth it.

I believe America should be exploiting all types of domestic energy drilling, shale oil, natural gas and so on. If anything it would have huge psychological benefits on the American people. The attitude of this country is collapsing as quickly as the large lending institutions. Rising prices on all forms of energy, housing foreclosures, high food prices, skyrocketing healthcare etc. is tearing at the moral fabric of this country. Continual bad news feeds on itself which in turn leads to panic and more bad decision making. To see America go wholeheartedly into trying every option to ease the energy crisis, with special emphasis on alternative energy and a brighter future would do wonders to renew the flagging spirit of all Americans. A good example is the Indy Mac Bank. As soon as the news of the federal takeover people panicked and stood in long lines outside the bank drawing out their money. As in the beginning of the great depression bad news ran like wildfire through the country causing everyone to close out their accounts hastening the collapse of the bank system. There is someone in My Fox Detroit that does nothing except post news of scandals and collapsing monetary institutions, conspiracies and fear. Not one ingling of a solution. It's time to shut up and go to work. Drill, mine, scream and yell, VOTE, do whatever it takes get this still great country moving again. I fought for this country once in my life and I'd do it again but if we hunker down, isolate and whine, we won't have a country left to fight for.

Drill. There is more than enough energy sources for us on our own soil. We won`t tap ourselves out.

There is a problem that is hard to deal with .
Oil companies are going to be real slow when it comes to putting more money into harvesting oil , and building more refineries when they know that fuel cell technology is only ten years from comming to fruit for the masses that drive cars .
That's a hard sell .

Washington and the talking heads on TV don't seem to understand that there are many of us that need help NOW! Who are in danger of losing our jobs NOW!They are still talking about what we can do 10 years from now, which they have been doing for 35 years. It is human history that when leaders don't listen to their people they get riots, let's see how long it takes.

YES Drill this will show OPEC that we are serious about oil indpentance..
OBAMA said it will take 7 yrs to see any or little benifit. HIS PLAN GAVE NO TIME TABLE. go sfter aleritive fuels HOW LONG WOULD THIS TAKE? he acts like we would have it next year.

plus go Nuke and clean coal fuels.
The Libs like to blame everyone else and come up with excuses on what not to do.
Their solultion is drive less use, use less heat, have the auto industry to increase fuel milage, raise the gas tax, lower the speed limit, Take profits from the oil company.

Don't forget Obama's " windfall " tax scheme .
All the oil companies will do is raise the price of gas to cover their taxes . Duhhhhhhhhh !

Flood the market with oil and watch it drop. Supply versus demand. Let them drink their oil over there. Why don't we charge them $20 a head of lettuce. Supply versus demand!!!

ALL
Just opened T. Boone Pickens site. Wind and Natural Gas. No mention of Solar, Geo Thermal and the rest.
My opine:
1. Drill, Drill, Drill, ye terriors Drill.
2. Build Wind Power Mills.
3. Drill into the Geothermal site in Wyoming.
4. Open the closed oil wells in Michigan, I used to have one on the Farm...
5. Go to Anwar,Santa Barabar, Floriday, South Carolina, build a pipeline, drill onshore, off shore.
6. Create, name, organize a Logistic Campaign to allow the CEOs of the Oil Companies a Dollar a Year salary to run the efforts.
7. Create a RAND type think tank of the best scientists, loggies, and oil rough necks to think thru the BS and get some doable, clean, and reasonable answers.
We have entirely too many voices on this. The need is for clarity, not hysteria.

Yes, We need to drill...This is a no-brainer, a small point missed by Mrs. Pelosi and the dingbat left Congress. I don't understand the whole "ten year" load of crap they are trying to get us to swallow. How can it be that if we drill oil wells that produce, which we know we have, the oil that is pumped from them is merely replaced by oil we would have bought and shipped in from the Mid-east, Venezuala or Russia? How hard is this concept to grasp? Are our elected officials really this stupid?
I know oil wells don't take years to drill, months possibly, if they are really deep or isolated, but not years. Everyone on the left says we need to open the Oil Reserves, they hold a whopping 58 days worth of oil at current capacity...leave it right where it is...And whoever made the comment about fuel cells being the next big technology...Exactly what is the plan to mass produce and distribute Hydrogen on a scale needed to replace oil? You're gonna need more than 10 years I can promise ya that. And no company is going to invest in infrastructure on a scale that large until fuel cells are a proven and well tested technology, and after the price drops as well. Solar and Wind? I can't run my truck on either...We have no choice but to drill and do it right now. period.
If our Congressmaen cannot see this, maybe when they come up for re-election this year and in 2010, we elect some new blood in there who might be able to tell their butts from a hole in the ground...

Honda allready has a fuel cell vehicle on the market today .
It only stands to reason that within 10 years , all auto companies will have to get on the band wagon to compete .
We will still need a lot of oil no matter what we drive .
America probably uses more oil for lubrication alone , than most 3rd world countries use all together .
