148 State lawmakers are taking 18 days off to go hunting.

It's a tradition in Lansing to take time off for the "open hunt", but consider this:

Only 9 of the 148 applied for a license this year.

So this begs the question, with a budget balance debacle still weighing heavily on the future of our state, is this really the time to take an extended vacation.

What do you think?

I am an avid hunter and I don't get time off to go hunting. I have to take my personal vacation time when opening day falls on a weekday. Forget the budget debacle, just have the governments operate like a normal company and that will probably solve most of our problems.

Now when they needed to get the budget passed I was all for keeping there nose to the grind stone, but they came through for us and let's give them the break they most likely need it

They shouldn't be paid for this hunting vacation. This is a prime example of our tax dollars being wasted in our state government. These bureaucrats can afford their own way just like the rest of us. Eliminate their fat cat expense accounts & state-owned vehicles for personal use, and make our Michigan government more accountable to the people that pay their salaries. Waste not, want not.

Give them the break they most likely need???

Give me a break, they have more days off then most working people work, do you honestly think they work a normal work day like most TAX PAYERS do?

The average work week is 40 hours a week, with 52 weeks in a year that comes out to 2080 hours a year not counting vacation time which is usually 2-4 weeks on average. I bet most of the legislation actually DOES work for only 2-4 weeks out of the year, the rest of the time is spent on the golf courses that won't even be taxed!!!

They need to work an HONEST work week and NOT take 18 days off unless it comes from their vacation time!!!

AS AN INDIAN , YOU SHOULDN'T SETTLE FOR BEADS IN ONE HAND WHILE THEY STAB US IN THE BACK WITH ANOTHER... IN MY OPINION THEY DIDN'T GET ANYTHING DONE... JUST LIKE CHRYSLER AND THE UAW, AS SOON AS THEY RADIFIED THE CONTRACT THEY TELL THOSE PEOPLE , GREAT, NOW WERE GETTING RID OF 12,000 MORE, I LOVE HOW THEY TELL YOU ONE THING BUT DO ANOTHER... BYE BYE MICHIGAN, ONLY TEN MONTHS TO GO AND I CAN GET ME AND MY MONEY BACK DOWN SOUTH, WHERE WE SHALL RISE AGAIN

For crying out loud. This budget debacle has been going on for over a year. And now they need a vacation to hunt? Are we paying them overtime? Is that the deal? GET BACK TO WORK AND DO YOUR JOBS!

What I can't understand is if all 148 of them are getting 18 days off to go hunting then how come only 9 have a license to hunt?

Are the other 139 poachers?

Are they going to wait until they shoot one and then go get the license?

This state has the most pathetic legislator in the entire country DEMS and REP alike!!!

Are you serious! We are going to pay 139 people to sit on their backsides for 18 days? This is ludicrus. I only get 15 days paid the entire year and I have 15 years in at my job. This is the kind of government waste that needs to be cut to balance this budget crisis. I say make them part time, cut their pay accordingly and they will have the time off.

This is typical of Michigan government! They do nothing but think of ways to impose taxes that does nothing but reduce the amount of discretionary income we have and then spend it ways most of us would object to. Now we must be forced to absorb the costs of these individuals while they hunt or whatever it is they have planned. When most of us take off work we do not get paid and the same conditions should apply to these individuals. When will the taxpayers of this state unite and tell these elected officials ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! If anyone listened to Martha Scott during the budget crisis she made a very important comment regarding the amount the income tax should be raised. She said " we need to take as much as we have to to solve this crisis, now and in the future". The key word here is "take", they were going to take that money from us not ASK. I am this far from deciding to relocate!!!

I am in the process of re-locating myself.

I work in the IT field for MI largest IT Corporation and I have been checking their other locations...ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, these politiions KNOW they can do whatever they want with no recourse because they make up the rules.

I hope my brother & his group in the U.P. don't happen to cross paths with these "professional" hunters. Wonder who pays for theirs? We might have quite a few isolated instances of "Cheney Fever"!!! Good one, hens1965!

I think a lot of us are counting the years or days to relocation. (never thought it would be me) Oklahoma is sounding really good about now. Check out their new laws re illegals.

What Jan-They don't have to climb under the fence anymore? Now they can just walk through and vote and pay no taxes? Just kidding, Jan. The best I can do with relocation is moving from Mount Clemens to Anchor Bay this month; I would have preferred the Alabama/ Mississippi mid-state border area. Oh well! I am so trapped and so screwed in this state!!! LOL

Just what are those 139 "hunters with no licenses" doing? For 18 days, that is riduculous. And we're paying for it!
I dont get paid vacation. Unless you count being layed off and collecting unemployement a paid vacation LOL. I would move out of michigan tomarrow, but first I would have to sell my house (hahahah) never going to happen here. I'm with you car, trapped and screwed in this state.

What's new? Our State Government is a Joke. I can expect nothing to surprise me on how they can waste money. We have the highest paid politicians than almost all of the States, and we have the worst group of overpaid idiots taking our money and blowing it any chance they can.

Time for a change!!! Let's put people in office who really care about us and the state of our State!! We can make the difference in the next election!!
