Lawmakers and staffers using the state
Senate's Internet server can again visit a left-leaning political
Web site after Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop restored access
Tuesday.

Bishop, R-Rochester, said Senate employees should not use
taxpayer-funded equipment to view political blogs.

"These blogs are of questionable content and employees who are
paid to conduct the business of the people of Michigan should not
be interacting with them during business hours," Bishop said in a
statement.

But he also restored access to the site --
www.bloggingformichigan.com -- and asked the secretary of the Senate
to review policies concerning employees' use of the Internet.

Bishop's chief of staff, Matt Miner, late last week blocked
access to the site. Senate Republicans, however, did not block
other political Web sites such as www.michiganliberal.com and a
conservative-leaning blog, www.rightmichigan.com. The block came
after Republicans apparently saw stories posted to the site they
did not like.

The move and potential for blockage of other sites drew charges
of censorship from Democrats and bloggers, who said blogs are a
legitimate and increasingly popular method of communicating with
the public.

WHAT DO YOU THINK, IS THIS FORM A CENSORSHIP OR ARE THE POLITICIANS WASTING TAXPAYER'S MONEY, SPENDING TIME ON THE BLOGS?

his is clearly a case of consorship. Mike Bishop has decided to block only one blog, and his Chief of Staff has admitted it was for saying things they didn't like.

If Sen. Bishop is going to continue down this path, perhaps he should move to Communist China where that kind of censorship of the internet is common place.

There's a difference between being a government employee and an at-will employee. It's more difficult to fire the former for goofing off on the job.

Politicians, for the most part, have clear stands on issues via their membership to any particularly labled political party. We all know who we vote for, partially based on this.
I will agree that if an elected representative is to be 'For the People, Of the People, and By the People,' they need to interact with their voting public. Communication through the internet is a great tool for this interaction. I say "Let Them Blog!"

That's a great point, Mary.

Maybe there would be less confusion if blogging were part of a politician's job description.

What? How are you supposed to be working for the voters if you do not know what it is the voters want? If reading the blogs helps them figure out what are critical issues to the voters then let them read the blogs.

I like many other hard working citizens in the state are not only sick of Kilpatrick but, his entire staff. Kilpatrick surrounds himself with know thugs like his body guard Martin who I whiteness personally a few summers ago discharging a firearm in broad day light. Naturally, nothing happened to him even thought he was shooting a firearm for fun in the presence of children. Nothing happened when he was openly intoxicated while performing the same act. Not to mention, I find it strange that when Martin was investigated by internal affairs for his interactions with known drug dealers he miraculously got off even with whiteness. Last, to make matters worse he got promoted to body guard status.

I sincerely hope the people finally wake up and remove this overweight, pompous, sarcastic, windbag from office before the population of Detroit dwindles down to the size of Gary Indiana. If people refuse to take action which most Detroiters will commonly not do, I am confident the leadership for this city will remain in place for a long time.

Throughout Kilpatrick’s tenure he has been portrayed as the victim when he is challenged. In every speech he accuses someone of trying to get him when in fact only guilty people are that paranoid. Yes fat boy you have and continue to cheat on your wife. Yes, you or someone paid off investigators for the alleged party that never happened. And when the two officers in question told the truth you punished them like the cowardly punk you are. Please, do not insult the people of the city when they know various monetary payoffs went to variou

Of course they should be allowed to blog, especially knowing that the people (tax payers) of the state are blogging everyday about the current issues going on in the state.

BUT then again Granholm is the one who should be reading the blogs just so she can hear how people of the state feel about her.

Everyone knows she does not read these blogs otherwise she would have hid months ago.

Her salary alone is a waste of tax payers money.
