Here we go again! The state Senate has voted in favor of a smoking ban. While I don't smoke, I can't help but feel that a little more of our freedom is about to be snuffed out!
This is what really has me fuming! Even as we work to clean up our air, the roads remain in disrepair. Many streets now resemble Swiss cheese with drivers ducking and dodging potholes at every turn. The problem has become so bad in Macomb County that I have devised a "pothole free" route to work. Of course, it takes me off the beaten path at a time when gas prices are nearing $4.00 a gallon.
Furthermore, as our state's economy continues to struggle, this measure has the potential to further hurt small business. I know some will say that restaurants are bars will not be adversely affected, but I disagree. Minnesota's smoking ban has been so "successful" that dozens of bars are holding so-called "theater nights" as a workaround.
Lansing's time would be better spent solving real problems, such as our state's shrinking population and crumbling roads. Stop picking on the poor smokers!
