A couple of months ago, I did a story about Tamika Mosley. I said she was a crooked caregiver who took money from her sick, elderly patient and lied to her probation officer about not having a job so she wouldn't have to pay back the victims of an old felony crime she'd been convicted of.  Well, Tamika was brought before a judge and rather than just plead guilty, she and her lawyer dragged it out over a period of months and dragged everyone involved in my story into court.  It was her right.

The result:  the judge ruled Tamika was a crooked caregiver who took money from her sick, elderly patient and lied to her probation officer about not having a job so she wouldn't have to pay back the victims of an old felony crime she'd been convicted of!

So, Tamika's most likely headed to the pokey.  Now, if we could just figure out how to get the state to do background checks on their 'caregivers' so this won't happen again.  Ridiculous!

Great story, Rob! If the state did more of these backgrounds check on not just the caregivers, but all the frauds and cheats in the systam, Michigan's econmy wouldn't be so bleak. Too much like right-Hey Rob, can you put Lansing in the Hall Of Shame? LOL

Glad to hear something is being done about that Tameeka. How she could steal from that lady is terrible. I remember your first story. Is she going to go to jail or what?

Maybe while he was getting the bill passed for mortgage issues, Rob may be working on a future story about Lansing??? Would be a great story & draw alot of ratings, especially if he exposed them in a negative manner that most of Michigan sees. Wishful thinking on my part, Rob. LOL. I have your contact info & I will be in touch soon.

I hope they throw the book at her for taking advantage of someone who put their trust in her. It is an awful shame that we are not able to trust all caregivers to take care of our elderly and disadvantaged loved ones. I hope she finds someone nice after this.

I know a few people who need help with their activities of daily living (ADL's) and assign either family members or friends to be their chore service worker or caregiver through the Dept. of Human Services (DHS). DHS takes the word of the person requesting ADL help that the working relationship is satisfactory.

It's a whole different story when the person needing ADL help has no friends or family who want to help for the stipend paid by DHS. When the working relationship starts from scratch, a trusting rapport needs to be developed.

I am wondering if DHS can screen potential chore service workers/caregivers by checking OTIS or I-CHAT on the internet. Those two sites provide the public with criminal histories of people. Many employers and Housing Commissions use those sites (and others) to do part of a background check on people seeking jobs or public housing.

P.S.

Nice work, Rob and the Hall of Shame staff, for working on this story, and showing us some of the weaknesses in the system that is built to provide dignity and respect to their consumers. The state needs to do better, and Mosley needs to be held accountable for what she did to an unsuspecting woman. The legal system has spoken.

Hi Rob! I know you do a lot of good and figured I had to ask you if you could help with something. A friend of mine sent this message to me and I HAD to do something about it, and figured I would try my luck with you, since you've done such a great job with the Ed and Frank investigations. Thank you for any help because I'm really worried about these poor animals so I hope you can help. Thank you!

My daughter works with special needs adults, and takes groups of them out for day trips. Yesterday, she told me they went to a flea market called Gibralter Trade Center, and there was a section that sells pets.

As she looked around, she noticed the horrible way the animals were kept. Dogs, which were kept too many per cage, were lying around in their own feces. (She said the bottoms of the cages were wire to allow the poops to fall thru, but of course most of it DIDN'T). There were six rabbits to a small cage that we'd consider too small for our one rabbit that we own. She said the place looked filthy, and the animals looked filthy and neglected.

She said there were signs all over saying "We are not a rescue, we're a family-owned pet store." She wanted to report them to SOMEONE but didn't have a clue how to go about doing this. Any suggestions?
