You know, I've never been one who complains a lot about paying taxes.   If the money is going to help someone in need, fix up the roads or make our schools better, I guess I don't really mind that much.  HOWEVER, finding out that someone at the state is such a knucklehead that they'd shell out money to a convicted felon on probation to take care of a senior citizen makes me pretty angry.  So, our tax money is going to pay for this crooked caregiver's probation monitoring and at the same time, it's going to fund her work with the elderly!   And the lady from the state says they don't have the resources to do background checks on these people!  That's the lamest excuse I've heard in awhile.

What do you think?

Rob, the state government needs to be accountable to the people of Michigan for where our tax dollars go. I suggest a private auditing & accounting firm that provides an in-depth report available upon request for the people. Eliminate government waste & people that defraud our system and the money may just make it around to everyone.

Rob,
Unlike you I do complain when I have to pay higher taxes. When the government is not held accountable to its spending, when elected officials use my tax dollars for pork projects to get reelected it just fries me.
When I watch debates on TV and the candidates tell me they are going to take more money from one segment to give to another by taxing them it fries me
When LBJ created the great society, took my tax dollars and gave it to people who would have the highest amounts of kids so they would receive more money it fries me.
When welfare locked people in to poverty, destroyed the family, and the government became the nanny it fries me.
When some government official tells me I am making too much money and they will pass a law it is communism it fries me.
When on September 30 each year (I know because I worked for the federal govt. and seen this) every agency and dept blows what ever money left in it’s budget so they will not face a cut the next year it fries me.
When schools waste money on the administers office furnishings it fries me.
You see Rob we have allow the Government to tax us for things we should never being paying for in the first place. Like birth control, abortions, free drug needles and section 8 housing when in this case the people move in and destroy the home or apartment. You cannot give someone something for nothing and expect them to take pride in it.
I am sick and tired of paying for social programs that do not work. Do not educate but subjugate people.
Really Rob are you that blind or are you another liberal socialist in the media?

Rob, Great story. It just proves that the our state in sad state of affairs.
Here is another story of how sad things happen. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a Sunday Oakland Press at the airport on my way to a business trip. On the front cover was a story of two single moms in Pontiac that received Habitat For Humanity houses. The moment I saw the pictures of the women I was completely shocked. There was a picture of a young lady named Leann Johnson standing on the porch of the house that she just received.
This woman is a complete menace to society. In March of this year my wife and two daughters (then 5 months and 4) were walking through the parking lot of shopping mall in Orion Twp. when a car driven by Leann Johnson backed up and hit my wife and the baby in the carrier. After my wifes screams, she stopped the car and looked my wife directly in the eyes and then proceeded to back up again and strike my 4 year old with her car throwing her over 10 feet. She continued to back up and stopped the car approximately 4 inches from running over my child. Instead of stopping, this piece of crap drove off. She was fleeing a retail fraud at Party America. She was arrested two days later and told officers that she was sorry for what she did. At her trial she was convicted of retail fraud and reckless driving and surprisingly stated that she did not remember hitting my family with her car. Oh! I forgot she was driving on a suspended license. At the sentencing she stated how she has changed and turned her life around. Not knowing that the judge had information that she was arrest

I believe in second chances to all who wants to change their life around..I dont agree that all people with criminal felon record should be judge on their past.. but your right most would do something bad to get people to be prejudice against the few who would make a good difference in this world even as a felon.. But what get me is that our federal tax dollars are going to pay for Procurator from Texas who travel to Mich. to have sex with a 5 year old child.. I just wonder how many of those over paid clear record federal trusted worker that my tax dollar goes to pay that is willing to travel around the U.S. breaking serious laws and getting away with it..

To car7858...sorry if I didn't get back to you. Don't remember the story. I hope you understand I get dozens of letters and calls a day and try to respond to as many as I can. Feel free to send me the info again. To Colt9112...I am fortunate enough to make a pretty good living and believe me, I pay a lot of taxes and hate it. But, it wasn't always that way. My dad lost his job when I was a kid and was out of good emploument for many years. We were decent folks caught in a bad situation and the state helped my old man get back on his feet. Do scumbags take advantage of these programs? Unfortunately, yes. But there are also good people who fall on hard times and I don't have a problem helping them.

My bad, Rob; i do know you & your team are quite busy "rounding up the bad guys" as you say. Will send under same user name Friday. People that abuse senior citizens deserve more than the Hall Of Shame and I know you will see to that, Rob.

Every month I have money taken out of my bank account to help people like that. I also know stories of my father who grew up in the depression of the 30's and his stories that are also sad ones.
I can tell you stories of my wife whose family immigrated here legally and lived in the basement of a church as pay for the father, until her was able to get employment with the big 3. They never lived off the system and the stories she had told me about her first year here is also sad. But this is America where people can really do anything if the choose too and work hard. Not a place where my hard earned money should be stripped from me in order to pay for things I post above.
My point is today we have people in Government who want to take my money and redistribute wealth. This is nothing but pure socialism. The want to control profits made from stocks including those in my 401K now tell me is that paying more than my fair share? The 401k program was set up so people could participate in the stock market and earn for their retirement.
The waste that takes place everyday in this country in regards to our tax dollars is astounding. If pork project were taken out of the system, think of the money that could be left to assist people.
I salute you for answering back, you’re the only fox person who is willing to discuss something rather than toss up a post and walk away. However I do not believe it is up to the government to always bail people out, I do believe in a hand up and not a hand out. I also believe the govt. has no right to tax someone to death because they work hard and

Morning, Convicted felon's have NO business taking care of senior citizen's or children and in these cases there should always be a background check. That lady from the state would want someone taking care of her family member checked out and I bet she would make sure they were. Jpin, hope this women recieved time, Think of how someone really deserved that house. It should be MANDATORY that people receiving these home's be checked too, Michigan is going to the dog's.

Rob,

I think this was a great story you did!

After watching your story last night and you interviewed the Probation Officer and the LAME State worker and her excuses I asked myself:

Why was the probation officer NOT made aware of this persons employment? (I know for a FACT that a person on probation MUST inform their probation officers of employment)

Shouldn't the probation officer have stepped in when they found out where this woman was employed and what she was doing for a living?

This woman NEEDS to serve jail time for what she did especially stealing the checks and cashing them, there are many FELONY laws broken with this story!

Keep up the good work!

rob, iam a caregiver and before i could become a care giver the company who hired had too do a background check and send me for finger printing. The state also makes you take classes. so the lady from the state is full of crap. If that lady needs a caregiver i will be more than happy to help her.

I can't believe that worker from the State says that they aren't allowed to do background checks. Thats bull, I have worked for two companies to do home care work for the elderly and develop mentally disabled and I have to sign a paper for them to do a background check before I could even be considered for the job. Then they would do one every year after that just to make sure our records were still clean.

Its people like that, that give the rest of us caregivers bad names.

Rob, good job reporting a sad situation. The State of Michigan employees responsible for creating this problem should be on the street.

I can't imagine why so many people our leaving this great state of Michigan. NOT!!! This is to the state employee in this story, YOU ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT TO THIS STATE! She does not have the resources to do a backround check. What a joke! It's amazing that the small company I work for has the resources to do backround checks, but the big state of Michigan does not. As for the felon caregiver, I hope they put her where she belongs. Behind bars. I pray for our state.

I recommend that you do a full background check, and not assume if you put a person name into the O.T.I.S website you will find out if they are a criminal or not. There are people with the same first, middle,& last names and if you put a name into the O.T.I.S website the same name can come up numerous times. So in all do respect Mr. Wolchek you wrong to tell people to do that. By telling people to do that you are preventing a lot of people from getting jobs or what ever it is there trying to do. You wouldn't like it someone made a decision about you based solely off seeing your name on O.T.I.S now would you?

I am sick to death! Hearing that THAT woman was hired by the STATE to care a fragile, innocent senior.

I believe that people who have committed felonies should be allowed to work BUT they should OFF probation and proven to have changed their ways. BUT just like child molesters, you DO NOT place them where they will be tempted to commit a crime again.

This proves again, for me, I do NOT believe the OUR government is out to help AND protect us and our loved ones. We are TOLD where to spend our money and what to pay taxes on and then say, "Here, spend more of your tax dollars to abuse your loved ones." We would be put in jail for this kind of abuse but the state is immuned to any such punishment or held accountable for this? SHAME AGAIN ON THEM!!!!
