I just spent the day in Lansing dealing with a bunch of B.S.! For years, I've been working with some decent, caring Democrats and Republicans in the Senate trying to get some new laws on the books that would punish rotten and unlicensed contractors, guys who get in trouble, close shop and start up under new names. These crooks not only hurt consumers, they are also the ones who underbid legitimate contractors that give realistic estimates on your home projects... taking business away from them.

So, last year we almost got a package of bills passed that would really help. The Senate passed the bills. The House passed the bills. The Governor vetoed them saying they needed a few fixes.

The fixes have been made. The package once again passed the Senate. Now, there are some knuckleheads in the House that want to spend more time going over the bills. And guess what? Some of these guys voted in favor of the same bills last year!

Let's get these bills passed! Are you with me?

way to go Rob. Politicians are full of gas and nobody ever calls them out. Bad builders are scum. I have a judgement against a guy who didn't even show up to court! He's still in business and hasn't paid me a penney. Problems solvers-1.
Politicians-0.

Anyone who would vote against putting some real rules on these criminal builders is a jackass. Half of the work i do is fixing things others have messed up. I play by the rules and it's easier in the long run. soem guys even steal equipment. They never get caught. I'm not even goign to vote anymore. It's useless.

I'm with you Rob, and don't know if this will help you but Richard LeBlanc from Westland is a good stright shooter and I'm sure he would help if he can.

I wrote a blog recently stating we need only one branch of the Legislature!!!!!

So much more can get done if we didnt have to go through this mess!!! I worked on a Bill last year and it was almost impossible!!! I got the Bill into law making it mandatory that all ambulances must carry heart defibrillators!!

I was also black listed and no one in either branch will lift a finger!!!!

democrats/republican of the michigan senat and house
one and only one message for you
"GET ER DONE"
my guess is that the ones that are stalling
might be looking to cash in from the bad builders so as to not pass the bill
or
thay want to add some personel posk projects to it.

just pass the bill.

ONE OTHER THING ROB
maybe posting the names of the people that are stalling should be posted/listed/made public
so as when it is time to vote
we will know who to vote for "not".

Hondo-I'd like to post those who are stalling the bill but I can't get a straight answer out of half of these guys. They say one thing to me and do something else. I've dealt with politicians both here and in California as a reporter, I've dealt with Governors and Senators and City Council people...it's very hard to pin these guys down to any real opinions. They might say they're for something then not sign it! Thanks for your comments.

I'm a Michigan contractor. One of the good contractors that has never ripped anyone off and never been sued. Every so often we are required to send money to "The Homeowner Construction Lien Recovery Fund". The letter requesting this payment is very spesific about the fact that our license will not be renewed if we do not contribute to this fund. These "extra" requests are in addition to the $10 a year we must contribute to this fund with our license renewal. I have never been able to find out how these funds are distributed, where they go, or who actually administers this fund? This has been going on for years. I think this fund makes us victiums just like the homeowners it is supposed to be helping. Why should good contractors have to pay for the bad ones?

I too am a Michigan contractor. Never had avy problems other than a couple of customers stiff me. The licensing program is a joke. Right now I have 3 laborers that are licened Builders. I would not trust them to lay out anything they could'nt if their life depended on it! When they took the exam they said the people giving the test gave them the answers so they would'nt have to give them the mony back.
