President Obama's choice for a place of honor at his inauguration is none other than the illustrious and contraversial Rick Warren.  The GLBT community is in an uproar, to put it mildly.  Totally OUTRAGED!.  President Obama, by comparison, is the most progressive president ever to be elected, imo, and will prove himself while in office.  In an attempt to bridge the great divide between Repubs and Dems, he extends an invitation to Rev. Warren instead of a gay minister.  The poet, he selected, is not gay either.  His cabinet members, to my knowledge, are not gay either, but may be sympathizers. 

WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE WANT??  A GAY AMERICA??????  THIS IS INSANE!!!  It had to be said.  Pardon my rant.

The last time the state appointed a financial manager to the board, during Engler's administration. the school system still ended up with a deficit due to low enrollment and mismanagement.   Yes, Detroit got a few new schools and millions spent on a new reading program.  Period.  Community activists spoke out then about the state appointments, which led to the election of the current board.   The community elected their board members.  This board, in turn, appointed/hired a superintendent who has a previous record of mismanagement in two other school districts.  My point.  You reap what you sow.  Until this district can get past 'skin color' as a major requirement for being elected to the board or appointed ceo, their options will remain limited and the progress of the district will be likewise.  Detroit, take a hint from your President Elect.  One does not have to be AA to have a vested interest in education and be competent.  Stop being narrow-minded in thinking that anyone other than a black professional, is a threat to your community.
