...You won't have to fear nor worry about African-American's forgeting about the struggles, deaths, torture, beatings, lynchings, rapes, abuse, horrible killings, hangings, and abominations put upon us by Slave Owners and Racists. Like the Jews and the Holocaust, Slavery against African-Americans is a "black mark" against the United States. This will never be erased and cannot be covered up.

Today, after the Civil Rights Movement..there are several forms of Covert racism that is prominent in the business community, our cities, or neighborhoods, churches, job environments and state governments. Has American Changed? It depends on whom you ask.

Noone needs your invitations, writerandeditor. As much as many of you would love to see that happen, it's not, so deal with it or don't. It is what it is, a scar and a black mark against the U.S. I know many conservatives who haven't been so pleased with this country over the last 8 years and are jumping ship. Would you invite them to leave?

pipper:

Absolutely!

This is a FREE country, and absolutely no one who isn't happy here is forced to stay.

And just for the record, pipper, this is not a smart a$$ retort...but an honest feeling from my heart. I don't like ANYONE tearing down my country...make it better if you think it needs improvement, or leave it if it's such a horrible place for you to live. And that means ANYONE.

I posed the question on my blog in my local area...am curious...
would black people vote for Obama just because he's partially black? if that's the case, we are doomed before we vote...just like women voting for hillary(Palin now) just because she was female...btw, women won the right to vote after black men could vote...so were black men any more oppressed then women?

Chatterbug: I have students who have said yes they would vote for the senator from Illinois just because he is black. After deep and sometimes heated discussion among themselves, some saw that their reasoning was flawed. Whether or not that changed their vote remains to be seen, but at least they are more informed now. And they did it by talking to one another.

Re: black men and women and oppression. As far back as the Old Testament in the Bible women were being stoned to death for having sex outside of marriage. Last I heard it takes two for the act, but the women were stoned for it.

Eventually women (peacefully and without further division based on gender) began standing up for human rights and won the right to vote.

Women did not do this by calling themselves women-Americans, but rather by learning how to talk to the ones (men) who then made the rules and pointing out the advantages of inclusion.

King and Kennedy saw the advantages to this as well, and worked together to further human rights. It is the race or religion itself that continues to divide us by hyphenating America.

And I agree that voting for someone based solely on gender or skin color is a dangerous act.

Chatterbug and writerandeditor, Of course, I'm voting for him because he's black AND qualified, in my opinion. I'd be a fool NOT to, are you kidding???????????

Wasn't MLK originally named Michael after a white Lutheran reformer? Stand up for all civil rights which our spelled out in our bill of rights in the US. Don't just pick the pnes that benefit you. For example the 2nd amendment. Why can't we get over this whole race thing? Idiots

In my last post, I meant to say wasn't MLK originally named Michael, and his father legally changed their names to Martin after a white Lutheran reformer? Also didn't MLK say judge a man by his character not by the color of his skin. That's why I am voting for McCain/Palin. Remember Obabma is a lawyer and that he has been trained to get people to believe him. People with an education can see through his smoke screen with the facts.

Pipper if you are voting based on the color of the skin, atleast vote for someone able to lead. May I suggest Ms. Rice.

No thanks. I am quite educated, thankyou, and I do indeed see through the conservative 'smoke screen.' I do, indeed, see the facts and Senator Obama is MORE than capable and qualified to lead. I don't want a leader who signs off on everything 'conservative' and been in the senate as long as mccain has and has nothing to show for it. If that call comes at 3a.m., I want someone with a level head and intellegence. Not someone who finished 5th from the bottom of his class and pts syndrome.

MORE doesn't mean anything to me. I can also speak in generic terms but that doesn't get America anywhere.

writerandeditor....
beautifully stated...i agree with you wholeheartedly!
my daughter is 18, just started her first yr of college. she was leaning towards obama. i have always said vote for who is right, not just because of party. she turned 18 in jan. first time to vote in presidential election. i asked her to view facts. don't go on ads and commercials. they are only partial truths/lies and decieve the public. i showed her to not take them (any) at their word, to fact check it all. she since is more educated on it than i, and she now has discussions on her university campus. i love it! get educated on the facts, then make an informed decision. don't make a choice based on ads, speeches etc they are all misleading. She is voting for McCain/Palin now.
