(CaribWorldNews), WASHINGTON, D.C., — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is easing its restrictions on certain short-term non-immigrant visas for Caribbean and other foreigners infected with HIV.

Under this new regulation, Department of State consular officers overseas will now have the authority to grant temporary, non-immigrant visas to otherwise eligible applicants who are HIV-positive and meet certain requirements.

“This regulation significantly improves the opportunities for individuals seeking to visit the U.S. who were previously inadmissible because of an HIV infection,” said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.  “Perhaps most important to the applicants, we’re also accelerating the process by providing an additional avenue for temporary admission, while maintaining a high level of security at our borders.”

AS IF WE DIDN'T ALREADY HAVE ENOUGH PROBLEMS.....we don't have a cure for the virus for those who are already in the U.S. and infected and so now, we play russian roulette with everyone else's lives for "visitors"???  I'm not interested in whose fault it is that one has contracted the virus nor am I less compassionate about the existence of the virus and lack of a cure....I'm angered however, by the fact that the U.S. has many, many other issues for which a $700 billion bail out that isn't working could have provided more research and education on the virus.  When will the U.S. ever take care of it's own -- if ever again???
