Asking for your kind help again :)
So Time Magazine has named Russian President Vladimir Putin as "Person of the Year" (
read about it here), and we want to know who you think should be Memphian of the Year!
Go to our
home page and take our poll, then check out our newscast at 5pm. Les Smith will be doing a special report on the results.
And as always, we welcome your comments- just remember they don't count as votes.
Thanks all!

As part of the continuing series of "Memphis in Black & White: The Racial Divide", we want to hear your stories... (You can view Part One HERE)
Share your experiences living in this city, ideas for positive change, and the stories of those with longtime roots in Memphis that can offer a historical perspective.
You can add them in the comments below, or you can email them to webmasters@myfoxmemphis.com if you prefer to remain anonymous. We would also love for you to share photos of your community, or historical photos of Memphis in its earlier days.
While we know this is a volatile subject, we expect your comments to be worded with respect to all that will read them.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Hello fellow bloggers-
Many, if not most of you, will be thrilled to know that we have several new features on our blogs now.
First you'll notice there's a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor that lets you change your font, it's color and size.
You can also now embed web links in your blog, and in comments to other blogs.
The best feature is the ability to embed photos from your photo album directly into your blog... like this:
Pretty cool, eh?
If you've got any questions, or if you experience any problems, please let us know so we can make an immediate fix... and thanks for your patience as we work to make the blogs even better!

so against my strong desire to never be on the other side of the camera, i have decided to take a drastic measure in my quest to give up the good ole coffin nails. i'm going public.
i've battled smoking for a while, although my efforts are half-hearted at best.
why is it such a problem for me? it's not so much the nicotine addition, it's a social addiction. i still think smoking is cool. i'm still a barfly, and you can't be a proper barfly without a cigarette, right?...
well, those times are over friends. i'm tired of smelling like smoke. i'm tired of spending the money. i'm tired of my voice getting deeper. i'm tired of battling the wrinkles my face shouldn't be showing for at least another 5-10 years. i'm tired of huddling behind buildings making a pathetic wind-guard out of my cupped hand. i'm tired of chewing gum to curb that icky smoker's breath.
so what, exactly, am i doing?
i volunteered for a sweeps story about smoking. i am subjecting myself to public shame and humiliation for all of our viewing audience to see.
oh, and i also switched to ultra-lights. (cough cough)

So I just returned from my first cruise, and I must say, how have I lived life before?...
I used to live in Florida, so I had a little mini-reunion with all my Florida friends as we set sail from Tampa for adventures on the high sea!
Cruises are relatively inexpensive - my airfare to Tampa cost nearly the same as the cruise itself - and it's just like a floating Las Vegas, except there's all these fabulous destinations, like the Grand Cayman Islands!
So now that I've gone on a cruise, here are a few tips I can offer for other first-time cruisers:
Go with a group. Gather up your college buddies and have a blast. Also be sure to arrange with the cruise line that you all get seated together for dinner.
Sign up for the latest dinner seating. You won't be rushed out to accomodate the next group, and if you're with all adults, there are very few children at the late seating.
Watch out for spa "deals"... Boy, did I fall for that one! If you're really looking to pamper yourself at the spa, look for group specials. I did a "Ladies Night" for $40 with my girlfriends that was just as fun (if not more so) and relaxing as the full body wrap/massage I did solo and spent $120. And the spa WILL try to sell you lots of over-priced products, so be prepared!
Don't buy booze from the duty-free shop on the ship thinking you'll be able to drink it there... They box it up and deliver it to your cabin right before you land back at port. Instead, go ahead and get the giant souvenir glass the first day and keep it with you for all your drinks on the cruise... refills for the souvenir glass are cheaper and bigger than buying new drinks from a fresh glass at the bar every time.
Make sure you understand how your safe works! I didn't, and I got stuck on the boat while my passport sat in my locked safe. D'oh!
If you start feeling the boat rocking too much, go to the dance club and shake your money-maker... You'll be so busy dancing you'll never even notice!
Bring sunscreen! Lots & lots of sunscreen!
So that's all I can think of right now... But seriously, take a cruise. The food is great, there's karaoke, dancing, casinos, plenty of decks to sun on, and great planned activities for families. I give it two thumbs up!

Since I am an administrator on this website, I hope the users of this blog will foster positive exchange of ideas, information and community events. Troublemakers will be penalized!
The myfoxmemphis.com site is still brand spankin' new at this point, but my hopes are that it will be a valuable tool for FOX13 viewers and web-users at large to be in touch with the world - from their own neighborhoods to across the globe.
So type away, bloggers... I'm back to work, typing away furiously! News doesn't just post itself, ya know :)
