I am a little behind in my blogging and for that I apologize.

Our web team continues to cover the conventions -- now the RNC.

Impressions of the DNC: The mission of bringing Hillary supporters into the Obama fold seemed very clear and transparent.  Was it effective? -- no one knows yet.

Here's the segue, are Hillary voters the reason McCain picked Sarah Palin?

I doubt that anyone from the campaign will ever say yes to that question.  On the surface she is billed as a reformist, a maverick.  We know she is pro-life.  Her own son has downs syndrome. Her teenage daughter is five months pregnant.  She will have the child and soon get married.  She supports oil drilling in Alaska.  She is a member of the NRA.

If choosing Palin is supposed to woo Hillary voters, I doubt it will work.  She hardly reflects their core values.  So on that end, maybe choosing Palin has nothing to do with Hillary voters.

Perhaps she is more about appeasing the GOP party values overall.  She should appeal to the Christian Right as well as to the fiscal conservatives who will laud her reform efforts.  The one thing the Pubs do well is put aside their differences within the party to win elections against the opposition.  This year having McCain as the nominee made that task more difficult.  Choosing Palin makes it easier for the Pubs to come together.

Never mind that they just threw the "Obama lack of experience" issue out the window.  It's likely worth it to get the ranks together.  A common theme at both conventions seems to be about unifying their own parties as opposed to focusing entirely on the competition.

You do what you have to do when Ann Coulter says she would rather vote for Hillary than McCain.  You do what you do when 27% (pre-convention poll) of the 18 million primary voters who chose Hillary say they will now vote for McCain.

There are many reasons to choose a relative unknown from Alaska as your party's choice for VP.  The real question is, will it work come November?

I pray that our party will be strong and I personally have been engerized since Gov. Palin, was nonimated for VP.

The media may attack her but it would happen if it had been another choice. Gov. Palin, appears to be able to handle the pressure. This year with her family has been stressful but haven't we all had those crisis?

Many years ago I was at a cocktail party given at the country club, an associate got a little much to drink and she said she wanted to sit with people that did not have any d...perfect children.

That really hit home as we all go forward let's not forget the hills and valley's that we have endured and support two people who want to serve their country. What a sacrifice your on call twenty-four seven. I know about those days too in a different profession.

Palin was chosen for the Right and for the independents as well as "Reagan democrats". In addition to her strengths (for the right) you mentioned above, she is also an "in-touch", blue-collar, small-town American who happens to have defeated the entrenched corruption from her own party and has led her state well (80% approval rating) for almost 2 years.

She is also ideologically opposite to Obama. She had a downs syndrome baby and is supporting her daughter's pregnancy decision, which is directly opposite to Obama's stance against protection for surviving late-term abortion victims (many aborted for having downs or similar disorders) and his stance against "punishing my daughters with a baby".

The only area where Palin is less experienced is in foreign policy, although her state does border Canada and is a stone's throw from Russia, which affects her policy on a daily basis. In all other areas, she has more "executive" experience relevant to the position than any of the other 3 candidates, including McCain. She's a commander-in-chief of the largest state's guard (over 15% of US), oversees the energy policy for 20% of our energy production, and she even stood up to "Big Oil". In contrast, the other three have represented constituent for areas similar in population but have not had to make executive decision. Biden votes against protection for our troops in Iraq. Obama votes "present" and has experience limited to professorship, community organizing, reviewing legal documents and Senate bills, and watching David Plouffe manage his Presidential campaign.

If experience is off the table (and I don't think it is), then so is the Obama/Biden mantra of "change". Their policies increase government, threaten economic growth at a crucial time, and promise a return to fiscal policy that led to the dot-com crash in the late 90's. By contrast, McCain/Palin will reduce wasteful government as Palin has done in Alaska, giving the people their money back. Which is really change and which is more of the same?

Her selection is appealing to Republicans and small-town and reform Independents, and if she happens to pick up Hillary supporters and other women, that is just a bonus. It is worthy of mention that many of the pro-Hillary "Pumas" have stated they're going to vote McCain in protest to the DNC and liberal media's treatment of their candidate. How many switch, though, won't be known until Election Day.

Palin is a great choice for our VP. She has more experience than Obama has in his little finger, and is the REAL THING, she isn't wishy washy like Obama who keeps changing his mind about whether he's an "american" or not, and he has gone back and forth on that issue, changing his view radically it seems the closer the elections draw near. Sarah is genuine, smart, and will do our country proud.

What are you people thinking? Come on, no one says you can support Palin, but please quit lying to the American people and yourself that she somehow has more experience that Obama; well unless you are referring to more experience in corruption. I hear talk about all the sexism in the media now all the time in connection with Ms. Palin, and how the media is bias against her, but is she really being treated hasher than the other candidates in the race were, NOOO, she is not. The media brought all out the stuff they had on Hillary, Obama, and McCain so what, because she is a lady does that mean she has to get a free ride? What is her stand on issues? Was she involved in trying to fire her ex-brother in law, why was she so untactful in addressing the pregnancy of her daughter? These are all legitimate questions that the media should address, like they did to Obama. It is not the fact that she is a woman that is in question, because so am I; it’s not the fact that she has five children, my mother has five children as well; and it’s not the fact that her daughter made a bad decision; it is the fact that she is unknown and people regarding of sex, race, religion, etc has a certain and understandable fear of the unknown. We need to quit playing the sexist card.

Heck shes done more than community leader, who runs around as a charlatan. Sheran a city and state government!

And Obama? Well, Pimping poor people in the south side of Chicago for votes and supports is what he is running on. Unbeleivabl!!!

But have you been to south side Chicago lately? Nothing changed in Obama's old stumping ground. He did absolutely nothing for that community. Even Rev. wright is piss, because he knows Obama brought no change or anything to that community.

As of today, they are still poor in the south side and the shootings are still going on.

And Obama? still being a charlatan!

How in the world was she "untactful" in addressing the pregnancy of her daughter? When you meet someone for the first time do you tell all your perosnal business? And the media IS trying to dig up junk about her....just because the ONLY thing they can find right now is the ex-brother-in-law thing and the pregnant daughter...media is just ticked it can't find out that she's been hanging with the wrong crowd like Obama or that she flip flops to appeal to whomever she's speaking to..no she's got some good moral values she's sticking to...HURRAY for Palin! Just look at how/what Kraniak writes!!!and he's part of the media!
And btw Kraniak who really cares what Ann Couter says or thinks!

When the Dems and the far left are so angry and so vicious I know that John McCain made the right decision. The nastier they get the more I realize that she was just what we needed. When the Dems Hate someone, America usually loves them. Go Sarah!!. Let them insult you all the way to the Whitehouse.

As a woman & mother myself it seems incredible that this woman would choose to accept this nomination with a 5 mo. old downs syndrome BABY
& a pregnant 17 year old daughter & three other children. Like Edwards who disregarded his wife's breast cancer & ran for Pres. & Guliani who had prostate cancer recently - the stress related to these two executive jobs is incredible. People who think this does't impact their health & wellbeing of their loved ones are CRAZY. 55with questions

I am a retired military Army Senior Non-Commissioned Officer and when I watch the RNC I don't see a party reflective of the American culture in which I live. The Army and military is strong because of it's diversity, but the RNC has failed to learn this. A sea of White people who "just don't get it" is all I see and here. This party better change or it will eventually die.

ok lets get into it... great speech delivered wonderfully only to get put out by the 1st report in from the frozen tundra. All I gotta say is thx sarah for phuckin' this up for us. They got your boy on tape and the diss on the community organizer was the spiral downward. Every community leader is coming after you guys, these are ppl who fight to keep jobs in local neighborhoods and guess who they bring with them, the community.
9y blog mentions my feelings about sarah palin.
Lastly I wasn't moved at all because it was written by the same guy who writes speeches for the sitting gop at the white house right now. Its sad but I told you guys this was gonna happen and now we have a left wing nut that will run the country and the right can't spin outta this one, dammit sarah

the RNC will change when certain citizens open their eyes and hearts and allow themselves to take a step in the GOP direction. That will be a hard step for many, but it will challenge the lock-hold the DNC has on a whole lot of us in this country.

"Never mind that they just threw the "Obama lack of experience" issue out the window."

I don't get the comment. Are you actually comparing obama's 100 and some odd days to a woman who has accomplished many things in our country. What has obama done? More importantly what is he going to do? He never says. Also we can look at obama's history of his church. He spent 20 years with that church and befriended the minister. Once that was all shed to light he dropped it light a hot cake. First of all, nice loyalty. Second of all, he was found out. GET REAL!!!

You morons just don't get it. Bill Clinton fixed the economy right? OK, but what did he do to the military, and our national security? He caused us to become weak, and as soon as he left Bush gets hit with 9/11 disaster. This was a move by Terrorists to make Bush look bad, not Clinton who was essentially at fault...and the "Morons" that believed it? "ALL DEMOCRATS" I don't know about you guys but I know I feel much safer knowing there is an armed undercover officer on my airplane. I feel safer knowing that I can go to work everyday knowing that with President Bush's guidance we now have a very strong Homeland Security Infrastructure. And if Obama were to get in he would do the same thing ole Bill did. Don't you get it? If you get all this Dems promise it all would be gone in a flash, by another attack on our country. These times aren't like 16 years ago when Clinton took office, these other countries have bigger, badder weapons, and as you saw on 9/11 they were not afraid of us. Do you want them afraid of the USa? Vote McCain/Palin and you will not be Afraid. God Bless The USA

I sometimes wonder what the world would look like today if we and others had not taken a strong stand against terrorism. Can we be so naive as to think the world would be a safer place? Freedom is not nor ever will be free. No one has all the answers but I believe our best hope is in McCain/Palin. God Bless America!

This woman has it all!
She's got the left scrambling right now. Otherwise they would not be so hard on her.
The Feminists don't like her because they are not about the rights of a woman. They are about the rights of a LIBERAL woman.
I consider myself a tradition thinker, but i must confess that this woman Sarah Palin is forcing me to reconsider a few things. I am not one who is easily convinced, but I do feel that she was definitely the best pick for the job. I believe the McCain/Palin ticket could help bring this country back to where it needs to be. This is probably the first time I have ever been excited over an election. I do hope the American people wake up.

Well yesterday I watched the convention,i t was pretty good for the most part. I heard the former Mayor of NYC stating that the Democratic nominee did not having any executive experience; neither does the Republican nominee, leading a battalion in the military, being held captive for six years, and giving information to spare your life does not qualify one to be president. Those actions merit a purple heart and the honor of being called a hero. If executive experience is what we look for in a president the only candidate that qualifies in my opinion is Sara Palin. By the way, Sara went off yesterday on the Democrats, I hope she knows that she is fair game now. (Thanks to her speech writer(s)) I knew she could hold her own. Furthermore, when one chooses someone to speak on their behalf it should be someone with a credible reputation, not an individual who could not commit to several marriages. The city of NY knew better then to select a dishonest man to represent them. Oh but wait, then again didn't the Republican nominee cheat on his former wife as well. What will he do when he is in office or when he is under pressure? If my president can't commit to family, the smallest unit in his battalion whose interests should always be at heart, how can he commit to a country which consists of several families (units, battalions and brigades)?

This is too much for me!!! Now I find out that Sara Palin allegedly has had an affair with her husband's friend and business partner. The magazine mentions that when the husband found out about the affair, he dessolved his business relationship with the partner. It goes on to mention that McCain's attorneys tryied to stop the story from coming out but were unsuccessful. The magazine informed them that they are not reporting lies, just facts, similar to when they published reports on Senator Edwards. All I can say is WOW!!!!
