And then McCain said, "We can be slow as well to give greatness its
due, a mistake I made myself long ago when I voted against a
federal holiday in memory of Dr. King. I was wrong and eventually
realized that, in time to give full support for a state holiday in
Arizona."

On the 40th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's death, Senator John McCain made those remarks from the balcony of the Lorraine Motel, the place where King was gunned down.

McCain admitted that he made a mistake. It's hard for anyone to say how genuine that is given our mistrust of politicians, but it was a very smart move for someone who is running for president.

McCain can now move past this issue that was certain to come up on the campaign trail. He can say he admitted it was a mistake, that he shows he can change and that this is just the reason someone like should be elected president. No politics and an ability to show compromise or admission of wrong doing.  In step with his non-partisan approach.

Sincere or not, this should play well in the days leading up to November. Of course his retractors will say what the hell took him so long.

What's your take?

Is he being political? Of course, but the irony is one senses the political opportunism was more in the original "no" vote (he was pandering to the far right then) than in the acknowledgement now, which is probably sincere (he doesn't show any sign of really being a racist). But this is something he reaped in the past that he's going to have to sow now.

His veteran status, no problem, His voting record so-so palitable, his short fuzed temper ahh ... something to be concerned with. I don't know if I want someone with a short fuze near the nuclear red button.

Isn't that right, Reverend about 1953 a traveler from Bloomfield that wears a P-38 stuck up his yellow leather pants.
Can't keep having these Angalalanders released from chains rowing up to the shores, and not paying rent. I wonder how much rent you owe?

Your evicted.

I don't know how this will affect him if at all. This is such an awful election year, terrible choices all around from the 'major' parties (and probably the lesser ones, too). Maybe The Onion is right about our "choices".

THAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT EVERY NATIONALITY AND ETHNIC BACKGROUND. EVERYBODY IS IMPORTANT. AND ALL HAVE MADE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS.

THERE IS GOOD AND BAD IN ALL.

THE AMERICAN INDIAN WAS THE ONLY TRUE AMERICAN.
THE REST WERE IMMIGRANT'S.

McCain is still suffering with PTS. I believe this with all my heart. He paid his dues in service. But he is not fit to be President. Not when he wants this generation of troops to go through the same. Somebody that spent 5 years as a POW, you'd think would be SICK OF WAR. I believe in his mind, he is still trying to win NAM. Well this isn't NAM.
NAM WAS A LONG TIME AGO. But with somebody still suffering with the effects of what they went through in service. YOU CANNOT PUT THEM IN A POSITION OF POWER OF PRESIDENT.
HE IS NOT WELL. PTS & TEMPER GO ONE IN ONE.
McCain is like TNT waiting for someone to designate it. Somebody better wake up to this before it's too late.

I am the Senior Web Producer for MyFoxDetroit.com and the Political Coordinator for the MyFox family of web sites coast to coast. I am crazy about politics, but not so much about the politicians. What's the difference? I like to think that government is about serving the needs of the people. I credit those who do that, and criticize those who don't.
