Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life — longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over, and I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land. So I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything, I'm not fearing any man. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. — the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

King delivered these prophetic words the night before he was assassinated. People inside his inner circle say in the days leading right up to April 4, 1968, that he often spoke of his own death.  The night he gave this speech in Memphis, many of them cried as if he was delivering his farewell address.  King frequently received death threats. It's amazing to me that he would deliver this speech the night before he died.

It seems as though King delivered the perfect words on the eve of his death. A wonderful entrance into the next world, forgetting what caused his exit from ours and how much this world could still use Dr. King's leadership.  A wonderful message to leave behind for the rest of us.

There are many prophets in the bible, and I think if it were still being written today, King would be considered a prophet.

If the criteria for prophet is: standing up against hate without using violence and your message of love is for all people. If what you do changes the world in which we all live. This is grounds for being called prophet.

From where I'm sitting there are two prophets from the last century: King and Ghandi.

King did not get to the promise land with us, he got there before us. It's our job to find him there by doing what he did, Love thy neighbor as thyself.

For more on Dr. King check out the View from a Mountain Top website.

Who do you think is worthy of being called a prophet?

I couldn't have said it any better. Every time I see that speech (and I've seen it MANY times) I can't help but get chills. He was truly one of the greatest men to grace the human race.

I'm so sick of the MSM flooding the air waves with so called news about the personal lives of people.
Who cares if he got a hooker. Isn't that between him and his wife. It's just like the 30 days of Anna Nichole news on every channle...what the hell did she do to warrent that kind of treatment she was a playboy bunny and a gold digger. That's all but the ignorant, reality tv junkies need some sort of drama so these stories are created, the whole while the government is stealing land from citizens in Texas and handing it over to Centra a foreign construction company to build the NAFTA super hi-way and toll existing roads to build the infra structure of Mexico. We in Michigan are getting taxed to death yet the state has over 16 Billion, Yes I said Billion in assets (Just check the Annual Comprehensive Finacial Report for our state) that could have been liquidated to pay for what they are taxing us for. It's all smoke and mirror to distract the ignorant from real issues and it seems to me that the media creates the news now and no longer reports it.
Mr. King spoke of freedom not only for his race but all races and that is why he was killed. And it's my belife that this nation of lazy, entertainment enslaved cowards don't deserve to have people such as King to grace our ignorant populaction with their presence.

sorry thought it was the post from yesterday. But the point is the same.
This wicked ignorant nation of lazy MSG consuming
me first minded selfish consumers don't deserve to be graced with the presence of the enlighten because they will be ridiculed and assassinated just like King was in his time.

Chief Noah Seattle, beloved headsman of the Duwamish and Suquamish Nation is my nomination.
“When the fighting was over and Seattle began to swell with newcomers, most European Americans took little notice of [Seattle] or his people. One story tells of a 10-year-old girl who pushed the old Chief off a board sidewalk -- everyone knew that Indians were supposed to get out of the way of white people. He continued to visit old friends in the city from time to time, and once, about a year before his death, went into a photographer's studio to have his portrait made. For the most part, Seattle stayed home, dealing with the problems of overcrowding, disease, and traveling whiskey sellers on the reservation.”
The following is an excerpt of Chief Seattle’s speech to the envoy from Washington D.C. on behalf of the president of the united states to acquire the expansive resources of the Pacific Northwest for the Weyerhaeuser Corporation, a lumber “Robber Barron” of the 19th century, and remove the remaining First Peoples by promising them anything and everything. The annihilation of the last sovereign Peoples were being secured … like so many times before … what was once a land of contiguous Nations, each independent and sovereign, rich and distinct from each other in tradition and culture, numbering arguably as much originally as 150 million people were reduced to 240,ooo by 1924(the number of spectators to fill the University of Michigan’s football stadium on two successive game Saturdays.)

untold, and which to us appears changeless and eternal, may change. Today is fair. Tomorrow it may be overcast with clouds. My words are like the stars that never change. Whatever Seattle says, the great chief at Washington can rely upon with as much certainty as he can upon the return of the sun or the seasons. The white chief says that Big Chief at Washington sends us greetings of friendship and goodwill. This is kind of him for we know he has little need of our friendship in return. His people are many. They are like the grass that covers vast prairies. My people are few. They resemble the scattering trees of a storm-swept plain. The great, and I presume -- good, White Chief sends us word that he wishes to buy our land but is willing to allow us enough to live comfortably. This indeed appears just, even generous, for the Red Man no longer has rights that he [the white men] need respect … There was a time when our people covered the land as the waves of a wind-ruffled sea cover its shell-paved floor, but that time long since passed away with the greatness of tribes that are now but a mournful memory. I will not dwell on, nor mourn over, our untimely decay, nor reproach my paleface brothers with hastening It as we too may have been somewhat to blame [we trusted the white man]] … Thus it was when the white man began to push our forefathers ever westward. But let us hope that the hostilities between us may never return. We would have everything to lose and nothing to gain. Revenge by young men is considered gain, even at the cost of their own lives, but old men

who stay at home in times of war, and mothers who have sons to lose, know better.. Our good father in Washington--for I presume he is now our father as well as yours, since King George has moved his boundaries further north--our great and good father, I say, sends us word that if we do as he desires he will protect us ... …His brave warriors will be to us a bristling wall of strength... Then in reality he will be our father and we his children. But can that ever be? Your God is not our God! Your God loves your people and hates mine! He folds his strong protecting arms lovingly about the paleface and leads him by the hand as a father leads an infant son. But, He has forsaken His Red children, if they really are His. Our God, the Great Spirit, seems also to have forsaken us. Your God makes your people wax stronger every day. Soon they will fill all the land. Our people are ebbing away like a rapidly receding tide that will never return. The white man's God cannot love our people or He would protect them. They seem to be orphans who can look nowhere for help. How then can we be brothers? How can your God become our God and renew our prosperity and awaken in us dreams of returning greatness? If we have a common Heavenly Father He must be partial, for He came to His paleface children. We never saw Him. He gave you laws but had no word for His red children whose teeming multitudes once filled this vast continent as stars fill the firmament. No; we are two distinct races with separate origins and separate destinies. There is little in common between us.... Our religio

[continued] Our religion is the traditions of our ancestors -- the dreams of our old men, given them in solemn hours of the night by the Great Spirit; and the visions of our sachems, and is written in the hearts of our people …Day and night cannot dwell together. The Red Man has ever fled the approach of the White Man, as the morning mist flees before the morning sun. However, your proposition seems fair and I think that my people will accept it and will retire to the reservation you offer them. Then we will dwell apart in peace, for the words of the Great White Chief seem to be the words of nature speaking to my people out of dense darkness … It matters little where we pass the remnant of our days. They will not be many. The Indian's night promises to be dark. Not a single star of hope hovers above his horizon. Sad-voiced winds moan in the distance. Grim fate seems to be on the Red Man's trail, and wherever he will hear the approaching footsteps of his fell destroyer[white men] and prepare stolidly to meet his doom, as does the wounded doe that hears the approaching footsteps of the hunter...A few more moons, a few more winters, and not one of the descendants of the mighty hosts that once moved over this broad land or lived in happy homes, protected by the Great Spirit, will remain to mourn over the graves of a people once more powerful and hopeful than yours. But why should I mourn at the untimely fate of my people? Tribe follows tribe, and nation follows nation, like the waves of the sea. It is the order of nature, and regret is useless. Your time of decay may be distant

Until my generation, not one … not one treaty or promise has been fulfilled. The world has observed this. Americans, especially as late as 2001, have become recognized as the greatest warmongers and destroyer of nations and peoples that are self serving. The world laughs at and also fears the crazed Americans because the speak of great things, yet Americans are murderous and can not be trusted. No matter the spin on the subject … the results of actions are seen … actions speak louder than words. America has to honor its words and make amends for the heinous acts against humanity Or we will cease to be a Nation, and truly it will be no mans land … for there will be no man left. “When the last tree has fallen, when the last river runs dry, when the last fish has been eaten, then and only then will Americans realize that you can’t eat money.”

No, the definition of a prophet is not standing up against hate without using violence. The definition of a prophet is one who has voices in their head credited to a diety.

Problems start when people who do decent things are viewed as the source of good things, are viewed as a prophet, as something more than just a human. MLK is one of the many figures who did some good things that need to be remembered by all, but has developed into a cult and is now taboo to speak ill of. Ghandi is another. How many people know about the MLK sex tapes produced by the FBI when he was cheating on his wife, or Ghandi's fixation with anally probing the young women who traveled with him. How many charlatans like Sharpton and Jackson have been able to exploit racial solidarity and piety from the corpse of MLK and how many secular organizers of those marches are forgotten in history because they were not giving the speeches? How many people in India lost their lives in wars with Pakistan because Ghandi insisted his theology become part of the new state of India and one state unified with Pakistan was unacceptable? How many people know of Ghandi's trips to South Africa to fight against racism against Indian people, but advocated racism against the native Africans?

When people are acknowledged, it is a good thing. When people are worshiped they are remembered rather than the good things they did and when they are remembered then ALL of their behavior becomes the standard rather than the standard that person followed. When good people are used as examples rather than good behavio

When good people are used as examples rather than good behaviors evil is inevitable. People should not be cherished by societies, ideas should be.

P.S. I do appreciate though that you acknowledge that the Bible is not divinely inspired, that prophets were just prominent people at the time.

Michigan Man

Are you talking about the same FBI that had a director, Hoover, only rivaled by Himmler and ran around in tutu?

Prophets are considered such in latte times when there words of interpetation ... become true. MLK, Ghandi ... Cheif Seatle, on time -right on the dime.

That reaction is exactly the problem I was talking about. In order to defend the cult leader the followers demonize and attack any perceived threat not to right or wrong, but to the structure and order of the established set of proper rules of conduct according to cult doctrine. If a man speaks ill of the doctrine then they are to be compared to Hitler and degraded. Are such tactics in line with what was taught by Dr. King that was right, of course not, but in religion facts and teaching do to matter, only the order matters and any threat to the order is a threat to the individual.

People need to realize that every religion is wrong, except mine. Praise be to Chuck Norris.

There are no prophets, only publicized purveyors of grand demonstrations of right and wrong.

...and the con jobs like Mother Teresa.

The real tragedy is that Dr. King was not a cult leader, he was a good man who's memory has allowed the breading of xenophobia, racial solidarity, and grand abuses of piety. I'm not against the man, I'm against the the idea of deifying a man. He was a man like anyone else with a great deal of bravery despite his natural human foibles and he should be honored, but more importantly we should remember that his ideas were not right because they were his but rather that he had the courage to act upon what was right in a time when the wrong thing was the norm. We should look for the MLK in all of us, we need not pray to his picture and take EVERYTHING he ever said or did as doctrine.

Michigan ManHobed nailed jack boots, out stretched arms in salute, the despising of anything good, the mantra of fascism, which labels by demonizing to stigmatize any potential opposition is the most dangerous cult … “centrism” in this case a convoluted Euro-Anglo Centrism that supports a dogma instilled by being a xenophobic pejorative centrist; that is nothing less than specious. Until, rents are paid, debts in human carnage are admitted, land is cleared of fools whose forefathers conquered in the name of manifest destiny, applied eugenics leading to euthanasia and then spun a tale of conservatism, need to be deported from these shores half way, half fare no questions asked. If an eye for an eye were visited upon the centrist and their supporters, then maybe a common ground without agitation would be achieved, and the greater good of the People would be realized. The proposition of cult followers can nowhere else be observed as those that claim a conservative bent; they are the cult! Lift your pant legs and show the jack boot that every “Strom Trooper” wears to march to the beer hall, and I’ll show you that fascist who will use any label to deceive and claim foul every time. I read my Mien Kumpf, and the author expressed its dedication to the Thule Society. Sounds like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck ... I read your game plan.

And just to let you know where you are at, there is a lady that stands proud and erect, holding the torch of liberty with these words at her foundation “… send me you poor, your hungry…” it didn’t say welcome to hell. When people understand this is “not” a democracy but a republic a whole new paradigm presents hope for a better day.
