As with many others, I am still without power since Sunday storms. DTE estimates another one or two days before we see any restoration. Our house is in utter chaos including no water. We have three bathrooms and can not use them. We lost all the new groceries we bought Friday...which was more than our usual shopping trip...to save on return trips.

Not having waited these many days before to restore power and being new to sub-pumps and well water, Can somebody tell me if it is possible to flush the toilets? We do not have a generator nor can we afford one with the gas prices and with everything we just lost. There is no decent lodging in our area and I can't go farther because our daughter is still in school.

A suggestion was to check with our home owners insurance for recovery on the food, all the water we had to purchase, etc. Is this a true suggestion or will I be wasting time?

Obviously, I don't have access to internet, tv, etc other than at work.....Can somebody please tell me what is taking so long ? It will be five days without service and my patients is no longer there. I am sure I am speaking for others as well.

Frustrated, stressed out, and begging for my power back.

I read the following information that was forwarded to me and want to know if there is any truth to this. Deena, Lila??

A friend of mine sent this to me this week and I wanted to pass
it on to all of you... This is NOT a joke!!! So Please Read....
I recently had a neighbor who had to have their 5-year old German
Shepherd dog put down due to liver failure.

 The dog was completely
healthy until a few weeks ago, so they had a necropsy done to see what
the cause was. The liver levels were unbelievable, as if the dog had
ingested poison of some kind!
The dog is kept inside, and when he's
outside, someone's with him, so the idea of him getting into something
unknown was hard to believe
. My neighbor started going through all the items in the house. When he got to the Swiffer Wetjet, he noticed, in very tiny print, a warning which stated 'may be harmful to small children and animals.' He called the company to ask what the contents of the cleaning agent are and was astounded to find out that antifreeze is one of the ingredients. (actually he was told it's a compound which is one molecule away from antifreeze).
Therefore, just by the dog walking on the floor cleaned with
the solution, then licking its own paws, it ingested enough of the
solution to destroy its liver. Soon after his dog's death, his
housekeepers' two cats also died of liver failure.
They both used the Swiffer Wetjet for quick cleanups on their floors. Necropsies weren't done on the cats, so they couldn't file a lawsuit, but he asked that we spread the word to as many people as possible so they don't lose their animals. This is equally harmful to babies and small children that play on the floor a lot and put their fingers in their mouths a lot.

PLEASE, EVEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE BABIES, SMALL CHILDREN OR
OWN A PET PLEASE FORWARD THIS ON!

First, I added this blog to the News section because it is the only one that fits. Second, perhaps Murray can shed some lights to this problem.

For those using Greendot Visa/Master Cards, don't buy the reload moneypaks from WALGREENS. Walgreens requires a one hour wait before you can add the funds to your card. Not that this is bad enough...now they have a rule that you can not reload more than $500 within 24 hours. Keep in mind, this rule does not start at the time you purchase this card but the time you start loading your funds. There is no sign, no warning, prior to purchase that this rule exists and I don't understand the purpose. I paid cash for these reload cards but I can't use them for 24 hours. Although one has been transferred and is safe, one card is not because of this "stupid" rule.

If you have an emergency requiring a credit card payment and you use these cards, you can't have it if you buy from WALGREENS.

My question is what right does Walgreens have in telling me when I can transfer and use these funds? This delay caused me a significant inconvenience and added stress. These moneypak cards can be easily stolen or lost with no recovery in sight. However, if the funds were transferred to my card, I can report it and get some help.

I will never shop at WALGREENS again.

Michigan  Poem

It's winter here in Michigan
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below.

Oh, how I love Michigan
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Michigan

'Cause my feet are frozen to the ground!!

While watching the 11am news today, Fox 2 shared how to make exchanging gifts much easier. Being a huge Barry Manilow fan, I was offended that the only gift Fox 2 could think to exchange was a Barry Manilow cd. Stop dissing Barry Manilow....Fox 2.

I saw Chris Edwards reporting the weather over the weekend. Perhaps I am wrong, but didn't he leave Fox2 to pursue other goals. If you are back Chris.....it is good to see again.

Alan Lee was wearing a white Lion's jacket the other day and thought it looked so comfortable. Where did you get that jacket? I think Kam was wearing it as well.

Barry Manilow The Greatest Songs of the Seventies will finally be on sale tomorrow. He is also scheduled to say hi right here on Fox2 tomorrow morning at 7:25am. He is my absolute favorite.  Thanks Fox2

I think there should be a blog section for health. This would allow Lila and Deena to share further insight to what we should know to stay healthly and fit. In addition, this would allow my favorite health reporters to answer questions too.

At this time, I will add this to the News category.

From the power of nature, I just love storms and I look forward to the next one. Granted, I pray there is no damage and don't wish anybody hurt by storms but I think they are fascinating. My hope is I am not alone when I say this and hope our weather people remember some people do like them. When is the next storm?

PS: Fox 2 mentions, Howell, Brighton, & Fowlerville often, don't forget us here in Hartland.

I have a general driving question regarding deer. Does anybody know if there is a common signal to use to inform oncoming cars that there are deer and to slow down? I live in an area where deer are numerous and often come out of nowhere. A recent experience made me think of this question. I have to cross over a one lane bridge everday. If there are oncoming cars, we obviously slow down and take turns. However, one day, I had to slow down near this bridge because there were deer preparing to cross the road. An oncoming car did not see the deer and I did not know how to tell the other driver to be careful because of the deer. Instead, the oncoming car thought I was stopped to let him through and he quickly passed me. Granted nothing happened but it made me think......is there courtesy signals for this and if not.....there should be.

Can somebody please fix the traffic light at the entrance of Milford High School in Highland? Those waiting to leave Milford High usually wait a good 5+ minutes or so before it will change to green. Obeying the law has been difficult because it is hard to determine if the light is malfunctioning or not.

Please fix this light during school days...busy parents don't have time to sit at a light that doesn't want to change. Thanks.

I haven't seen Fanchon on the morning news lately. Where did she go? Perhaps the Problem Solvers can help find her.

Ben,

My kids & I want to know...how do you determine the time that the seasons change? As a child, I remember the weatherman [Do you remember Sonny Elliot?} telling us the day but I don't remember a time given.
