So, we're getting down to crunch time.  As I mentioned a while back, I'm training for my second marathon.  I ran my first in 2005 (in Chicago), then got lazy again.  Now I'm back.

This time, I'm entering Milwaukee's Lakefront Marathon.  It's coming up October 5th.  That means I'm deep into the "build-up" phase, where the weekend runs getting really, really long, building up toward the 26.2 miles I'll have to trudge through on race day.

Tomorrow, I'm supposed to go 18 miles.  EIGHTEEN MILES?!  That's, like, $2.50 worth of gas by car!

But I guess that just means the big day is getting close.  And it means I'd better go check and make sure there's ibuprofen in the medicine cabinet.

Bryan, you're an avid exerciser.

The Track & Field competition is about to heat up in the Olympics. Hopefully you can enjoy some of the events in between your gruesome workouts.

Aleve is also supposed to be good for aches and pains and over-exerted muscles. Keep up the good work!

This will take more than luck...you're going to need prayers, vicodin, sacrifice, pain, blood, guts, sweat, percocet, hydrants, more prayers, tears, focus, painkillers, & some one to yell......get your butt up & move it Bryan!

[sorry, but i had to go there ...this is a marathon, not a Sunday morning jog around the block to Walgreens]

You're kind of freakin' me out FOx6Fan. But you're right.

Prayers - yes
vicodin - unfortunately, no
sacrifice - oh yeah
pain - yep
blood - can you say, BLEEP bandaids?
guts - sure
sweat - buckets
percocet - see vicodin
hydrants - or cups of water dumped on my head
more prayers - Hail Mary
tears - or sweat, by now can't tell the difference
focus - on the next 10 steps
painkillers - even if it's just 800mg of ibuprofen
& some one to yell - Hey, I welcome all the encouragement I can get. If you see me on the course, tell me to get my *** in gear!

Thanks, everybody

P.S. Jen24, if you love running, you CAN do a marathon. No matter what your fitness level is now. If you can run, you can run long distances. It's all a matter of incremental training. If it's one of those things you'd like to check off you life list, let me know. I'd be glad to share my experience.

Bryan.

You have a Superman mentality that definitely carries over to your superb INVESTIGATIVE REPORTS. They are TOP NOTCH....know wonder you are so FEARLESS out there!

The longest i run is 3 miles. The closest i get to pain is bench pressing 275 pounds.

It feels like Prince Fielder is sitting on the barbells....i think i can get 300 though!

That would feel like CC Sabathia is sitting on the bar.lol

I'll be physically cheering down at the Lakefront for you!

Okay, so there is an "I" in I-Team. But don't be fooled. There's more Team than meets the eye. There is my producer, Pat McCraney; our extraordinary editor, Dave Michuda; and some of the best photojournalists in the business. As for me, I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri (Pattonville High School). I got my bachelors degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. And I've worked in both radio and television in Missouri, Iowa, and Wisconsin. In fact, I met a Wisconsin girl while working in Des Moines. We got married in the spring of 2000, moved to Kansas City, and four years later, she brought me home. We have two of the cutest kids on earth, plus two cats that give our Dyson a workout. I love snow skiing, soccer, Texas Hold 'Em, the St. Louis Cardinals, and ice cold beer (not necessarily in that order). I have a passion for my work. But there is no greater joy in my life than being a dad. Subscribe to my blog and you'll get an email everytime I add a new post.
